Art Bell

Did Art ever divulge what happened the other night? Was it serious: YES/NO? (I don't believe Art, updated his Facebook status reguarding this incident.)

Because it's better than canceling shows w/o giving a reason, or making something up.
This serial thriller gets fishier with each incident.  Has there been any official statement by the county sheriff? Have have any named neighbors/witnesses made public statements? Have any of the incidents been reported in the local news?

Can you imagine any other well-known victim of similar acts NOT being reported in the news; especially the entertainment media?  I googled Art Bell and "news"...not a peep comes up about this stuff.

Are there no serious Bell fans in Pahrump who'd swing by Art's compound and report if there were signs of added security activity?  Its not like his location is a secret.

And, for me, the big flashing red light...there's an armed stalker lurking about the open Bell compound yet he keeps his wife and little daughter there?

I hope its not a set-up for him to pull the plug, but it's certainly not outside the realm of possibilities.  He's done it too many times in the past. I think Art himself has been better than ever on the air, but OTOH, his guest line-up has been mediocre, and he seems to be still in the hands of small-time media amateurs business-wise.

Whatever this is, it certainly is elaborate.

I don't think that Art needs to fabricate all of this just to slide gracefully out of doing the show if he doesn't want to do it any more. I don't think he owes us anything, and at worst he has given us a bunch of shows we would not have had in the first place - but you are always going to get people who call him a quitter whatever the reason happens to be. If he was looking for an excuse, all he needs to do is complain of his bad back again, and cite "doctor's orders" or something.

He might be perfectly genuine about what he said he saw, but remember this is a guy who claimed to see a shadow person a few weeks ago, so you can't blame people for being sceptical in this instance. I don't know if he has got the police involved in this or not, but it seems odd that he is making this quite so public, but possibly he thinks that by making such a fuss about it he is warning someone off from making a second attempt. Although it could quite possibly go the other way and make whoever it was feel that they are having an effect and re-double their efforts to have a second try.

I have never felt that this return from retirement is destined to be long-lasting, personally. I think we have seen numerous occasions in the past when you feel that he gets bored with the gig and is looking for a way out again. I am sure a big part of his return had to do with sticking it to Dave, but you wonder how long that feeling lasts when you are having to get up at unsociable hours and making personal sacrifices, all to pursue a grudge. It would have to wear off after a while, surely?

I agree with the point in bold for sure. I personally think Art is/would be honest if he didn't want to continue. I don't sense the vibe, Art, feels like he's finished. However, it's hard to tell via posts on Facebook and BellGab. Has he stated anything on the show about slowing down?

I doubt Art's sole motivation is the Noory grudge... Probably feels good. Real good. *ahh push it..push it real good*

Hopefully he's okay, either way it makes very interesting radio. He should enlist the help of "gabnation" to sort this out. We can appoint him our new spiritual leader and arm ourselves to the teeth! lol. WHAT SAY YOU BELLGAB?

+1. All this negative speculation about an elaborate retirement hoax is stupid. I'm sure it's just some whackjob that will hopefully be quickly apprehended and we can all move past it.

He often mentions the fact that he is not a young man any more, and he has done that from the start. I don't blame him at all if he decides he doesn't want to do it, but I haven't heard him mention anything to that effect. My own impression when this news came out the other day was that there was more to it than met the eye, but it's hard to back that up. If he started making up reports like this for some reason or another then he has obviously lost his mind, so I don't think that can be the case. But, he does have a habit of embellishing things a little bit, so it wouldn't surprise me if he took a little more latitude with the truth here.

Maybe.  But I see Jay Demers here in the Bronx & I wonder.  Jay was in charge of the Warrior Football Club since its founding in 1952.  He's had spinal stenosis, a cancer & heart disease recently.  A few yrs. ago his wife died after only a short course of a mysterious illness.  So what'd he do after turning over the Warriors to a new CEO this year?  Return to coaching the kids!

Meh. Too much drama. Plus, I'm a non-conformist... So, no to the "gabnation" and "spiritual leader" part. I will vote yes on guns.  :)

I know Dave seems like a likely suspect but I don't think this is his style. I could see it as more likely a crazy Dave fan rather than the Dave himself. :P

Seems to me that Dave gets a pass on this fm my scrutiny.  IIR, it takes testicles to go out and stalk another human bean.

Damn there are some real negative fucktards on here. Art has told us what happened. He didn't have to but that's how he is. Some real mental midgets think he's making things up. Those fucktards are the ones making things up and they are the ones with ulterior motives throwing lies and innuendo at Art. Typical davebot trolling behavior.

I felt that way until I put these together:
No official statement by the Sheriff's Dept.
No witnesses' public statements?
No news coverage of an intrusion of a celebrity's home? Not a peep comes up about any of this stuff.
And the big one...an armed stalker lurking about the open Bell compound yet he keeps his wife and little daughter there?
Something's fishy. I wonder if the MITD show isn't meeting his expectations. I still suspect that Premier (who controls far more than C2CAM) has closed the door to many contemporary guests.  It certainly wouldn't be the first time he made a drama queen exit.

Art Bell all day on 790 AM in Los Angeles is great. Really enjoying listening to this and I hope it becomes a Thanksgiving Day tradition.

Listening to 790 in my car, I get this beeping in the background.  Something like a pilot may hear when the 'Oh Jesus!' light starts flashing on his panel.

It is some whackjob.  ART is not going to retire now.  Shit, ppl.  He's just getting stARTed.  KABC just ran a day of ART, here in Lost Angeles.  A radio station....cleared....it's day... for ART.   (I'm just sorry I didn't know about it)

KABC just went in big.  The JugganART has yet to come to full steam.  Do not be a Faithless Fuck.  Stand Fast.

Maybe you could fill us in on what's usual from the public info desk of police.  What effort has been made to get a statement from them?
QuoteNo news coverage of an intrusion of a celebrity's home? Not a peep comes up about any of this stuff.
That silence may or may not be significant.  On one hand, fact checking by news pros is often so pitiful that you'd expect something like this to turn up in the news regardless of how shaky it is.  OTOH, being fact checking is so weak, how much significance can be laid to either the presence or absence of stories?
QuoteAnd the big one...an armed stalker lurking about the open Bell compound yet he keeps his wife and little daughter there?
Sure, where he can watch them.  If the stalker is after his family, what good would it do them to separate?  What should he do, hire imposters to get shot in place of them while the real ones sneak out via the tunnel?

I tend to suspect publicity stunts by media people.  For a long time I thought Rush Limbaugh's supposed narcotics addiction was a publicity stunt.  As long as there was no official action (and you never know who's a target of indictment), it was just some statements by a cleaning lady and Limbaugh.  This is more than that, and while it's conceivable that it could all have been set up, and Mr. Bell is after all a showman, I don't think it's fake.

You should go on the GabCast. It's always interesting to hear what people sound like. And, in your case, I would be intrigued to hear what someone sounds like who actually has Art's nutsack in his mouth.

Dateline

I took Art's comments as knowing that he has a very dedicated fan base that gets very concerned and nervous when he feels he should cancel a show.  Respecting that, he shared what he could comfortably tell everyone about the events.  He has always been a host that is known as being open with the audience.  That is what he is doing here.

I do hope he does go on air tonight.  I am in an Art Bell live listening mood.

Uncle Duke

Can anyone remember a case where the stalking of a celebrity was made public before the stalker was apprehended?  Mind you, I'm not implying Art's making this up for whatever reason, I just don't get the going public part of the saga.  I know there are a handful of currently serving and retired police officers on the site, I'd be curious to get their take on keeping this quiet vice going public.

"What's the frequency, Kenneth?"

Some celebrities publicize their "nut mail", though not usually including credible death threats.

I Googled "death threats" & turned up stories within the past few days about Fox News contributor Katherine Timpf getting them, as well as one from earlier in the year about TV figure Duane Chapman getting them.

That was something to do with Star Wars. She had the temerity to suggest that it wasn't the last word in Western Civilisation and she had the nerd hordes coming down on her. I remember someone saying that the last Batman film a few years ago wasn't awfully good, and he got the same sort of hysterical reaction. In these cases, though, it's just pathetic fanboys acting like tough guys rather than anything more serious.

Might be a stupid question but is there a live show tonight or y'all letting the turkey go down.

I'd be interested, too.  It seems like every few weeks Art goes public with something where people say he'd be better off keeping quiet.  I think it's just his personality.  Remember that from years ago; it's what makes this more than just some guy on the radio for me.  Years ago, when I was young and foolish, during some crisis or another I actually sent him an email (on AOL, I think, hahaha) saying he was in my prayers or whatever, and I never do stuff like that.  He builds a rapport with his audience like nobody else I know.

I wonder if his years of ham radio (a pretty niche thing, kind of like the internet of 50 years ago in that it consists of conversations with strangers you'll never meet) fostered a sort of intimacy over the radio.

I may be wrong, but I thought I heard AB mention that there were 2 people in the spotlight. He did not say "persons of interest". IMO ,it s a crazed C2C fan doing a devotion to Dave!
