premiere owns coast to coast, as far as i know.  does art even have the legal power to demand they stop airing his shows?
If his non compete is up, and he wants to do a hobby show, then yes, he could ask for them to stop. he could also get a big fat no and use it to prove what a bunch of assholes premrad are. Either way, Art wins.

ziznak

ah man I know people have mused over it on this forum in the past BUT... wouldn't it just kick ass if Art's non-compete WAS up and he actually DID start another show and then BURIED via ratings the Noory headed c2c monster that we battle every night?

i do agree, it would be great... but i just have a hard time believing any THINKING network executive is going to take the risk of hiring art with his history of retirements.

Maybe the radio exec is a huge Art Bell fan.

I have my new going-to-sleep happy thought!

Oh, but we can dream. Just think of it if some other network backs a one-off, single-night show produced by and starring Art Bell. Set it for December 21, 2012, call it "The Great Event", or "The End Of The World" or whatever...and set it head-to-head against C2C. With enough advertising and stations I feel confident this could destroy C2C's audience numbers, at least for that one night. Imagine the ad....

"FRIDAY!!! FRIDAY!!! FRIDAY!!! FRIDAY!!! ONE NIGHT ONLY! A head-to-head steel-cage broadcast death match! Listen as Art "Big Daddy" Bell, and his Original Show accept the challenge and come out of retirement to go up against George "The Conincidencinator" Noory!!! FRIDAY!!! FRIDAY!!! FRIDAY!!! FRIDAY!!! ONE NIGHT ONLY! Art's show begins 10:00 p.m. PST (1:00 a.m. EST), and will run for 4 hours, or until the radio tower at the originating broadcast site in Pahrump, Nevada is destroyed by gargantuan tsunamis caused by the pole shift, whichever comes first. Art's show will be 4 hours of unscreened calls from around the world, with callers reporting on any major Earth events or phenomena. George is scheduled to have Glynis McCants, The Numbers Lady, in her record-breaking 127th appearance on CoastToCoastAM. FRIDAY!!! FRIDAY!!! FRIDAY!!! FRIDAY!!!...."

God what a point would be made

coaster

Coast would have no chance if Art were back on the air.

If it's a friday, george will throw on an old show and cut out early.

Harmness

I think we're overlooking the really important thing here:  What does the Portland Source say?

There may be an additional factor at work here--and that's the fact that many of these shows just don't hold up that well with age.  Many of the episodes are timeless, but many others are with guests long-since discredited and/or involving predictions proven to be false.  I know the stated goal is pure entertainment, but AB may well be embarrassed about some of the things presented on the show.

I predict Art will start his own stream with revenue from ads and/or subscription. All free Art Bell streams will be silenced by Art's lawyer(s)

McPhallus

As much as I hate him, I have to wonder what that fuckwit is up to these days.

true but if i were Art i'd be thinking ...  people are listening to these streams ... there's a demand ... why can't i put up stream OF MY SHOWS that could generate a trickle of income from ads or subcription fees or both?  that's what i'd do

What I see Art doing is his own monthly/weekly podcast or live streaming show.  He can either make it free or charge for it, along with older shows if Premiere will give him access to them.

Call it "The Art Bell Podcast" or something.

I think what Art really wants is full control over what he creates.  If he doesn't return to broadcasting, at least he can keep Premiere from ruining what he started, like he said.

I hadn't thought of that angle. Whilst I still find those shows (the discredited guests and failed predictions) entertaining I can see how Art probably cringes and is embarrassed about that. Having those shows on weekly just discredits Art even further.

We should also not dismiss the fact that Art probably doesn't want Prem Radio profiting from him if his non-compete/contract with them has now officially ended. He obviously has a disdain for this incarnation of C2C and what it has become as well as a disdain for Prem Radio for allowing it to become that way and wants to distance himself from it as much as possible.

I'm still holding on to a tiny shred of hope that Art does return to the air or do a podcast or something. I'd even pay a fee to hear him again.

Has he elaborated on Facebook?

This is something I'd like to see as well, and I hope Art has something like this in mind. I doubt we will ever hear him live on C2C again, but doing one or two interviews a week/month then putting out a podcast would be a great way for him to keep searching for the truth.

I would love to see Art come back. However, I don't ever see it happening. The guy retired so often, his heart clearly wasn't into it. I sense that he burned out from everything. I would be truly angry with him if he tried to shut down other streams of the show.

There's something satisfying about a return to broadcasting for Art after Dec 21, 2012 fizzles. Just a thought.

Art_s Farts

Does anyone know if Art still retains ownership of his old "Dreamland" program. I was listening to an old episode and thought that maybe he can do the show without any interference from Premier. I know Whitley Strieber took the show over but maybe Art can do a couple of episodes a month or so.

Just listened to a show on the steam from oct 28 2006. A caller complained to Art about the direction Noory was taking the show. Art stated that the show will change over time, and that people needed to get used to it. He seemed to defend George.

I would have been surprised if Art had not defended George. First, for contractual reasons: he was probably required under his buyout agreement to use his "best efforts" to publicly support C2C Lite, and ease the transition to George. Second, it's how an accomplished professional would act, to be generous with one's successor...even if he's an undeserving idiot. Third, it's the kind of thing that decent people do, and I think Art is a decent, thoughtful and fair-minded man.

And, I don't think back then Art realized what a lazy idiot George really was/is, or he would not have had him on as a fill in host after more than a couple shows.  I doubt Art listened to the shows the nights he was off, and probably dismissed any complaints he heard about George at the time.

Everyone in show business is working hard to do their best and improve - for the fame, for the money, for the love of entertaining.  It's a tough business to get in and stay in - probably never dawned on Art that George is one of the very few exceptions - he even allowed George to introduce him at his Hall of Fame induction.

I wonder at what point Art discovered what most of his audiance already had figured out about the Nooron.

The only thing I remember Art saying was "he gets it" in reference to noory's understanding of the paranormal. He also made several statements to how hard working gn was.

I really liked how Art handled his show... everything else, Art was a bit of a derp.

Re: whether Art still owns Coast and others ... just ran a search usIng Art's name at copyright.gov. Lots of records returned. Coming Global Superstorm. No Coast that I could see

Juan

I worked in broadcasting for years.  Every show I'm aware of was owned by the applicable corporate owners.  The talent works under "work for hire" agreements.

Art Bell - 10-million listeners.
George Noory - 3-million listeners.

Some victory sNoory.

Both numbers are vastly inflated. Maybe 10 million fingers and toes, but not people.

Art probably had close to 3 million at his peak....Noory is probably around a million.

Right but how many of Noory's listeners are concious?

..I have a good feeling that Art is also a little sickened that 'The Chase' and 'Inca Dance' still anchor the shows.. Dare I say a birdie tells me he wishes they'd be stopped as the themes too...
