I require a sample before I put down any cash.

That was the line I used to propose to my wife.

Uncensored Art.. would be funny to hear him say FUCK for the first time.  ;D
Not to mention the inevitable Haunted Vibrator open lines episode.  "First, let's make sure you called the right line.  Was the vibrator north or south of your Rockies?"

Since you have to have a little affluence and more of a middle-class style life to afford satellite radio, I'm wondering if that will curb a lot of the interesting calls like Art used to get.

Hopefully it'll curb the never ending calls from Bill in West Hartford.  I doubt he's got the spare change left for Art after he blows his money on Astronomy Monthly and blow-up dolls.

I'm listening to Noory tonight for the first time in about 3 years. Is this ass clown ever going to get to any calls? I'm dying for someone to slip in an Art Bell return comment.
Noory won't take calls for the guest until the final hour tonight and then with his ultra-screened lines and dump delay button, no Art Bell mention would ever get out on the air unfortunately.
It will be interesting to see if he still thanks Art Bell in his list of names at the end of the show though, maybe until Sept?  8)

So at least some of the "Art is never coming back" curmudgeons will now be in the "Art won't last long" or "I hate satellite radio" business instead. Nice to know that they've at least been forced to move their goalposts, since it's unlikely they'll retract their initial sentiments...

Onan, nice catch on the Rocky reference. It does speak directly to my screen name. :)

Pablo Smash

Does this mean Art's show will be broadcast in stereo? Will make the bumper music that much better. Don't think i could take JC in stereo though.

I just burned my mouth on another pizza roll. ""Hello, 911..."   :o

MV/Liberace!

I have $25 for the first person who gets on with Dave Noorie tonight and clearly, intelligibly says "bell-gab-dot-com."  Again, you have to say it clearly.  No nervous mushmouth.

PM me and let me know what your radio name will be so i can verify it was you.

Payment will be sent via PayPal.

Yeah, I know it was $100 last time.  What can I say.  I now have a baby to feed and such.

I may start a site... members only. And it may well offer some sound files that are unique... if you get my meaning.

I would be very interested.

It's just not the same. There wont be the same mystique and unpredictably. There was just something magical about finding the show on the radio dial, while traveling, camping or whatever. You knew millions of others were doing the same, which  is condusive to crazy, entertaining calls.

And now we're supposed to pay a 20 spot for the watered-down, sedate, predictable version? I'll pass

As of Q2 2013, Sirius XM has over 25 million subscribers.

come on, man.  it's not like you'd be listening to a cb radio channel here.  25 million subscribers is quite a reservoir from which art will draw his audience... not to mention new subscribers who signed up just for him.

Holy. Living. Fuck.

Wow.

Seemed like Cumulus was the deal about 12 hours ago. What a curveball. But Art is back. Ecstatic!

For the "I won't pay for radio" crowd. I understand, but I don't. I made rockstar money up until 2008 or so... now... heh. Ouch. But even though I'm in Mac-and-Cheese mode, I still find the money to pay for superfluous bullshit like World of Warcraft, etc. Budgets can be adjusted. If I can't find 50¢ a day to listen to Art, then I deserve Dave Noorie.

For those not paying $15 out of principle -- FUCK YEAH! You show those Sirius bigwigs who's boss! Shake your fists at their retarded geosynchronous satellites!

Now that I'm done poking fun at the sour grapes crowd... it seems everyone had it a little bit right in terms of his schedule. Not quite full-time, a little more than part-time. Definitely not a daytime show, but not an after midnight affair, either (well, except for the last hour on the east coast).

In all seriousness, back to the Sirius subscription... I was fully prepared to pay for Sirius, knowing I don't have a Cumulus station here in Pittsburgh. For those that have to pass a $15 monthly expense past a significant other, people that can't already find enough nickels and dimes for their own brood let alone a luxury like satellite radio, etc, this has gotta be a little punch to the gut. For a lot (most?) of us, cutting out a few starbucks a month is worth it.

this reminds me a lot of when Howard Stern made the move to Sirius years ago and how they expected millions of new subscribers to sign up for him...  ;)

I wonder if we'll have an equivalent of fast blast again.  Hope so.  It gave the live show more of a sense of immediacy to be able to message Art while he was inteviewing a guest.  He'd usually take the time during commercials to read his fast blasts so he could ask his guest about listener questions and comments.

I can't wait to see the stats on Art's new show after the 1st month.

but they keep renewing his contract for hundreds of millions of dollars, don't they.

I know, I know...I'm a curmudgeon. But for me, it's like meeting up with an old girlfriend and harboring some expectations,  only to realize she's grown a mustache and lost interest in going to the gym.

Then again, I really hope Art knocks it out of the park. Who knows what the future holds.

Is it possible for somebody to create a free internet audio stream of a Sirius/XM channel close to realtime (maybe only a few minutes delay)?
That would be a great alternative to downloading a torrent or youtube audio recording a day later.

multiple times, i've heard opie and anthony say the company (sirius xm) won't even tell them how many people are listening to their show.  based on that, i'd say it's probably not likely.
