My email to the C Crane company:

I have long associated your product with the Coast to Coast AM radio program. So much so that recently I had planned to replace my Realistic DX-440 SW radio with something from your company.

But the quality of the show has steadily deteriorated to the point that it is now a sad shell of its former self. The blame rests squarely on full time host George Noory. He has ruined this great show's reputation.

Since emails to the show's parent company are too easily dismissed, my fellow disgusted listeners and I (an entire forum of us are out there) have no choice but to go to their advertisers. I've heard your ads for many, many years and know your company represents quality. It's unfortunate that you continue to associate with a radio program that does not hold to those same high standards. Until the situation changes, I will purchase my radio products elsewhere.

Excellent!  I, too, own a CCrane radio......and, I will follow your lead and send them an email indicating that it will be my last CCrane unless Premiere finds a credible spokeman for their products.

Rog.  . If I main write with such famamrilty (spelled like a true member of the new Coast audience),, I have a new gig to suggest for you.
Write question copy for ole Georgio.  I think that would be so nichful.  It would be so funny to hear the host read like you write and the guest totally be blown beyond beeebeeef.

C. Crane's reply:

Thank you for the feedback. I will pass this information on to our advertising department. We do our best to create quality radio products that help the listeners receive whatever station or host they wish to hear. We advertise on a variety of radio shows in an effort to reach anyone who listens to radio. If you have some other hosts that you listen to, we'd be interested in that feedback as well.

George recently proclaimed he is (just now) getting into Bob Dylan.

My guess is now that a couple months have passed, if someone stopped him on the street today he wouldn't know who Dylan is.

Just heard him play "Knockin on Heaven's Door" last night.  Leave it to George to play one of the most obvious and over-played Dylan songs.  Probably the only one he knows.

I wonder if they could create a custom Coast model, with a special "Mute Noory" button.

Anyone catch the  little impromptu between Snooz and Tommy?

They were discussing Snoorz' strong aversion to burnt out lights.

He says they betray a certain laziness in the management.  Maybe he sees somehow himself in them.  The image of Mommy Dearest and her "WIRE HANGERS!!!!"  also comes to mind.

Maybe we should send burned out light bulbs to them as a demonstration of our outrage at his laziness.

I caught this fascinating exchange.  Given George's laziness in prepping for his own interviews, perhaps he's got a few burnt out bulbs in his own head he should attend to.

I don't know if you actually listened to the show in question, but I didn't get the impression that Linda Staci was an airhead.  She certainly has some exotic claims, but then that's what makes Coast interesting when handled well.  To me, she sounded intelligent, articulate, and genuine in her beliefs.  She also mentioned that her husband is an attorney, which is at least indicative to me that she didn't just fall off the turnip truck.
IMHO, she was treated very badly, even for George, the child with the mentality of a bacteria.  ::)

Speaking of the Stasi interview, which I was not able to listen to, I politely emailed Lex re the two Veil of Veronica images, pointing out that the "teeth" pic is merely a clearer/more in-focus version of the "no teeth" shot, the former being obviously blurry, obscuring details. I did not imply, nor do I believe there was, intention to deceive on Stasi's part.
Once upon a time they would post listeners comments on photos. No dice this time. Maybe because my email would lessen the "woo-woo" factor.

.......A female caller just referred to herself as "a No. 2 pencil in a dotcom world." Pretty funny, and an apt description of Jorch btw. But then he asked her in serious tone "Now explain what a No. 2 pencil is." ..........

I doubt if Jorch advanced beyond finger painting and crayons.

I only caught a little of the program tonight.  Did Snoorz ever address "the voice"?
No of course not.
But there was a caller that mysteriously disappeared and got cut off.
Could have been a caller asking about it or something else Noory doesn't want to hear, so he could have cut him off with his delay button and blamed it on mysterious entities...  8)

Anyone hear a caller during open lines last night that was describing a canyon or some other structure that he said looked like a woman's vagina?
I could hear Noory cringe when he heard that and of course quickly got rid of that caller...

NoMoreNoory

Roger. I'm not quite sure where to begin. I know I don't understand a great deal of what you're saying and, given that you began by appearing to be arguing with yourself, perhaps that's not so surprising. Possibly if you put fewer 'words' in 'quotation' marks and CAPITALS, or 'BOTH' I'd under-stand 'better'.
I am greatly amused by the prospect of C2C as presented by Groucho: his interviews with Hoaxland, the Numbers Lady and assorted cat ladies and gentlemen would indeed have been legendary.
Restricting ourselves to the real world, however, I will tell you exactly what I mean by 'not fit for purpose'. George Noory is the presenter of a call-driven radio talk show. George Noory cannot read, speak, conduct an interview or interact with callers. QED.
You seem to imply that credit is somehow due to Noory for a 'professionalism' which involves giving his guests and listeners what you call the 'brush-off', by which I assume you mean ignoring them while appearing to indulge them which you seem to feel demonstrates a level of intelligence in Noory which, quite frankly, I am unable to detect. You appear to feel that this reflects some kind of triumph of commercialism over content. All I can say is that if that is what you think C2C is, or should be, about, you never listened to Art Bell.

For those of you who want to boycott or complain to your local GN-carrying radio station, all stations carrying the show are listed on C2C's website; just click on "stations" on the navigation bar on the opening page. Or click here.

Most of the stations link to a home page where you can find phone numbers and email addresses; if yours does not, you can Google it to find what you need.

Here's another idea.  Have Rog on as a guest.  Try reading that post again, and every few sentences or so, imagine Jorch intoning one of his patented inanities, like so:

Rog: I happen to agree with what I think you mean with regard to 'purpose'. 'Bizniz' and such are only sometimes conjoined.

Jorch:  Thash true.

Rog:  Where-ever or when-ever curiosity and thirst for facts and understanding bump up AGAINST BIZNIZ or MONEY-MAKING: guess which side has the better odds of winning here-to-fore and which side has the better odds or 'favor' in terms of INVESTMENTS?

Jorch:  Well, you know, you never know.

Rog:  Yer really dumb. Really stupid.  Ha ha ha ha is what they're saying all the way into your orchard. No longer yours.

Jorch:  There are no coincidences.

Rog:  How many times robbed ere one sees robbers in the distance?

Jorch: Could it be angels?

See how it all makes sense now?

George just told this psychic, "For somebody from Budapest, Hungary, you've got a great, great diction with you.  You speak great English."  Unlike, say, George.

I hope he asked for lessons during the break.

(3) make phone calls to C2C (sneaking in a complaint during open lines would be hilarious and should also get us more supporters),

We should try to sneak in some Art quotes....
"Doing a show means devoting your life to it, not just "phoning it in", examples of that can be heard nightly. "

Ended up too bruised to type my point. Still believed my point important, but then forgot what my point was. Erased everything I ever wrote about my point. But still think my point is correct or was correct, or will someday be correct.
And ended up with the same as ever: what's the deal?

Ya lost me?????  Help!

I wrote the station here in Columbia SC, WVOC. I hope that it does something good. Did you know that Premier pays the station to carry their shows. This is something a local radio host in Philadelphia once said about the lack of local programming. He was never on the radio again. The station fired him.

Given Roger's known tendency toward abstraction and George's pronunciation skills, such an endeavor would like come off as a cross between Rain Main and Boomhauer from King of the Hill.

So, I'm paraphrasing CCrane's response....

Look, we make an awesome product that has a knob and a button on it.  You use the knob to find something to listen to, and if you don't find anything to your liking you use the button to turn the unit off.  You know, to save power, help the environment, and whatnot.  We try to advertise as on many shows as we can afford, and we are hoping that if you find a show that is to your liking you will hear our ads, support that show, and buy our products.  If you don't hear our ads, let us know and if enough people agree with you we will advertise there.  We understand that you don't like George Norry, but he works for another company and we can't fire him.  We try to focus on making a better product for listening to the radio, we're not in the broadcasting side of the equation.

This was on that news item:
"Premire radio pays actors who are given a script to call the radio shows." This keeps the subject in the days show on topic.

That local radio host was about Art Bells age in 2003 when he was fired because he said that radio was nothing like it had been years ago. His name was Irv Homer. He is retired now from Radio in South Jersey and Phila. area.
Noory follows a script. And you C Crane explanation fits well with the old expression "if you do not like it, turn it off." Maybe when the ratings drop as the coast insider membership has dropped then they will get rid of Noory. But do not get your hopes up. He said stations do not want to pay for local radio hosts. Our station while we lived there was WPHT. They carry Coast at night. They still have 2 local people since I stll get emails from them.
Ratings mean a lot to a radio program. I hope as people stop listening maybe the sponsor will go someplace else. Incidentally, Bob Crane from C Crane had been on the air with Noory a few times. So he may not be interested in dropping the show. I think he is friendly with George.

McPhallus, Sure , Roger comes across as everyone's's eccentric  brother. Got it. But the hammer and sickle  on your President's image brings this to mind: If you go carrying pictures Chairman Mao you ain't gonna make it with anyone anyhow. Regardless,  it's likely gonna be all right.

Good catch mombird3.

Looks like Romney actually did alot more than just spend personal money on his endeavor to be president, he got Bain to buy the top conservative talkers.  Interesting, and even more interestingthis did not come out in the campaign.  Would folks have found it relevant that Bain owned Rush?

There is no way George is going anywhere if these ratings are indicative of his real rating.  He is top ten in streaming, and he is overnight not in the day.

"Talk Stream Live has released their Q4 listener data for Talk Radio. The survey period covers October 1 â€" December 31, 2012 and uses 851,212 streaming sessions as its sample size. Rush is #1, followed by Savage, Beck, Laura and Mark Levin moves up to fifth place. TSL listenership increased in the Fourth Quarter which is most likely due to the magnitude of the quarter's news topics: The Presidential Election, Hurricane Sandy, the Mayan end of the world, fiscal cliff and the tragedy of Newtown, CT. Also impacting the talk radio landscape was Michael Savage and Laura Ingraham, two top talk shows that were on hiatus while changing networks.

Hear are the TSL Top 25 Talk Shows by Rank/Share:

    1 Rush Limbaugh 12.5
    2 Michael Savage 8.8
    3 Glenn Beck 8.7
    4 Laura Ingraham 6.4
    5 Mark Levin 5.3
    6 Tammy Bruce 4.9
    7 Sean Hannity 4.8
    8 Dennis Miller 3.5

    13 John Batchelor 1.4
    14 Red Eye Radio 1.2
    15 Alex Jones 1.2
    16 Hugh Hewitt 1.2
    17 Dennis Prager 1.1

If you notice they are all syndicated shows. And there are few local hosts for the shows. And you do not get a broad range of views. Like Rush, Savage and Hannity they are mostly conservative. If you want anything else there is nothing that might be liberal.
We had Michael Smerconish in Phila. and he wrote some books. "Flying Blind" was one of them about the Airport security. Michael S. was once on coast for a segment about a book with one of the hosts. But that was a while ago. That book was out in the stores in 2004, and we went to the book signing. He is a former lawyer turned talk show host. He still does a show. And the other host is Dom Giordano doing political stuff. They talked about issues in the city and the country. and they prepare for the show. It shows.
What I miss about that station is that it was real radio. And the callers were not paid to call. And streaming was free. But most of all the show was good, the callers were smart and it kept our interests. Noory lacks this.
Not much of that kind of good radio in South Carolina. They fired the one they had in the afternoon about three months ago. We liked his show.
You cannot find quality any longer.

Not sure what you're asking Hyper, or if you're saying you found no rudeness in George's behavior.  A good quick review of this thread starting on page 650 should be a good shortcut to what others heard and commented on.   ???

Did you know that Premier pays the station to carry their shows.
Premier doesn't pay local stations, they provide the program free in return for running their commercials during the network breaks.  The show also contains local breaks during which the local stations can run their own commercials.  With Coast, the network breaks are the ones the host goes to at about 8-minutes and 38-minutes after the hour.  The local breaks are the ones at the top and bottom of the hours.

This method of filling air time is less expensive for the local station than hiring a local host. In some markets, however, the local host is required to go out and sell advertising when not on the air, so those local hosts still survive.

He also destroyed a potentially interesting Q&A about the guy's uncle who saw a skinwalker next to his car as he was driving 45MPH.  He said it was grinning at his uncle who sped up to 60 in a futile attempt to lose the SW. The guy was in the process of describing the SW in more detail, but in his mid-sentence, George interrupted and HAD to ask him another question, which produced the following thought in my mind. Simple George ruins everything.

+1 George is so interested in plowing-through open lines that he doesn't appreciate it when he has potentially a great call on the line, a call which could make for compelling radio. I have lost count of the number of "good calls" George has blown-off. Many of these callers LMH and other researchers would love to interview I'm-sure.

Come on, now.

Bain owns Rush ?

The man signed a contract for $ 400 million last year. He doesn't need Romney's money and was a conservative long before anyone ever heard of Mitt Romney. I've been listening to Rush literally since the first second he was on the air in Sacramento on KFBK which is where I listened to Art when KSFO didn't come in clearly because they lower their power at night.
