Yoo Hoo!

As one of the old guard pioneers from the early days of this magnificent site, I just popped in to see what was up.  So, Greetings to the "Old Comrades" who might remember me.
I have been C2C free for 3 years, and it feels great!  My hair is thicker, the sparkle is back in my eyes, my bowels flow with comforting regularity and my phtang is in remission.
The one thing that has only got steadily worse is that talentless hack, that ubershill, that master of mendacity and basha of banality.  The Guilded Turd himself, GN.
George Noory Sucks WORSE THAN EVER!  I caught about 15 minutes of him last night and my hair started to fall out, the sparkle left and my bowels gave vent to a discontented chorus of Borborygmus of positively Mosolovian proportions (and the phtang made an unwelcomed return).
So, if ever objective proof were needed, I hereby swear to the forgoing.

hey, brother.  it sure is good to see you back.  i hope you'll post often.

Lovely Bones

It's tempting to agree with Sardoni's verbal projectile diarrhea (the Morons! Idiots! Imbeciles! etc. rant on the previous page) and go with the general flow here.

But you know what, folks?  We may be the idiots and imbeciles.

Fact #1: No product line to sell with ghosts, bigfoot, aliens, etc., unless you consider Ed Dames' course in remote viewing.

Fact #2: Huge market and product line for diet, weight loss, health, general self-improvement and (as we've seen) end-of-the-world doom and gloom products.  Get your turmeric here!  Your carnivora!  Your gas masks, your e-foods direct, your ageless male supplements, your PX-90 (or whatever the hell that was)!

I can hardly wait to hear about the diet pill line.

Oh wait.  I quit listening to C2C in live form (absent Knapp and Ian) more than 3 months ago.

How many of us have said C2C was turning into an infomercial?  This is all part of the plan. . . .

No doubt but Maj. Doom saw Saddam Snoory in his view.  Where has that clown been?  Is Snoory below even Dames?  The Hoagster still pops up regulary like a never-ending nightmare but what about the greatest fraud of all?  Did a solar flare take him out?

Perhaps it was the killshot.

The quote from the link ziznak posted: "All the 2011 Coast to Coast AM shows, minus the George Noory shows, as he is dumber than a bag of hammers and a supreme embarrassment to radio."

It seems impossible for C2C management to be ignorant of the widespread loathing of Noory. Are they in denial? Or are they simply handcuffed by the curse of having mediocre ratings? Meaning that they opt to keep things as they are - producing a mediocre product which guarantees a low but steady return - rather than go through the painful and expensive process of developing another host. I just don't see themj as thinking the world loves that moron.

The inability to understand emotional tonality might just be something from the autism spectrum.  "Normal" people understand how others are going to react to stories of dead and injured babies and animals.  Noory doesn't seem to connect with the emotions of others or to understand how his words will impact others...

I should shut up now.  I'm not a shrink and I don't even play one on tv, but that's how I see him.
I am sorry... but we do not want him either.  Paired with a very low IQ I might accept this, but not from a man who has managed to function for well over half a century.

Most of the people I know who are on the spectrum (myself included) have learned through experiences.  I was talking with another fellow awhile ago and the conversation came around to the mental roladex that we each keep and how efficient (or inefficient) it can be in certain situations.  The point is that even without experiencing the proper emotions and intuitively arriving at the right response we each manage most situations based on a knowledge of what the proper response is and making an attempt to convey the correct emotion or proper string of words.

There is no way in hell that George has made it through life without knowing that stories of tortured animals and children are not what most people appreciate.  I have one card in my roladex that tells me that even news stories involving missing children (or anything else bad with children) should never be repeated in front of a parent.  Talking about a story involving a child in today's paper with somebody single is usually acceptable if conversation turns to current news  Avoiding any mention if somebody has children is usually best as the reaction of any parent is unfavourable.  It seems parents always picture their child in the situation or they do not like to be reminded of the vulnerability of their comfortable reality and family unit.

The point is that I actually have to reject George falling somewhere on the spectrum as a reason for his telling these stories and disinterested responses to those who are in emotional distress.  I can guarantee that at his age he is aware that his responses are unacceptable- he just does not care.  There are a couple of other diagnoses that might explain it better...

Much like you, I am not a trained analyst (though I did once stay at a holiday inn and I have lived my life somewhere on the spectrum...)

This, too, is something I constantly think about. They have to get tons of emails and calls.. But then again, I am sure people call to complain about Rush Limbaugh in droves, too. So therefore, in that sense, the true management that decides who will be the voice of this program is sheltered from the critics. They look at ratings, money.. and when ratings slip, that makes the story different.

So ... how are the ratings these days for Coast to Coast AM?

I'd love to know how many 'insiders' there really are.

Notice the typical "2000 a month" membership drive Noory used to do has slipped, replaced instead by catering to the masses by telling them to stop going to catered function and get thin.

You're right. And of course Rush is nothing but talk radio's 800-pound gorilla. Which makes me consider the unthinkable: maybe a vast majority of people are happy with Noory after all, and we're just a small group in an echo chamber.

I just can't believe my instincts could be that wrong.

I hate to be your bearer of bad tidings, but it is true that we are "just a small group in an echo chamber" and that "a vast majority of people are happy with Noory."  You have to remember that we belong to the audience of a former C2C show host, Art Bell.  Bell is no longer the featured host; Noory is now THE host of the show.  Correspondingly, Noory has his own audience, and we are not it.  Wake up and face up to the simple truth that we are not part of this new generation of C2C Noory-crazed listeners.  We have become the minority under the new regime.  :(

Sad as it may be, it is the way of the world.  Empires rise and fall with their rulers.  Religions start out pure and good with their founders, until a few generation of followers later, the religion begins to degenerate and devolve into a human mockery of spirituality.

Maybe the majority of his fans like him, but I'd guess the fans of the show pre-Noory don't.  Some of them find this website from time to time and say so.  Even a few from the Noory era talk about it taking awhile to realize it, but that he sucks.

Most people are in bed or doing other things when the show is on, especially the non-West Coasters.  I'm not sure how large Art's audience truy was, I don't think it was that big considering the time slot but there is no way George has the audience Art had.  Late night radio was always a wasteland - my guess is PremRat is happy just to have something with some continuity to offer the affiliates.  Maybe they don't think there are that many additional listeners out there that would listen if there was a new host, and worry about losing the ones they have now.  One thing they know is George isn't going anywhere, no one is going to hire him away for greener pastures.

Compare C2C and PremRat to TV.  Look at all the lousy shows out there.  Either enough people are watching them to make it profitable, or the really lousy stuff is just providing filler to keep the station on the air until the 'good' shows are on.

Great point - the local network TV affiliates here program infomercials at least six hours out of every twenty-four. C2C isn't (always, anyway) an infomercial, but it certainly can be seen as 'filler' between the programming that makes Premiere some money.

VtaGeezer

In a country where Glenn Beck and Bill O'Reilly, and the women of a fundie Mormon harem hold spots on the NYT bestseller list, the success of Noory's banal mediocrity should be no surprise that .

BTW, does anyone else notice that the guy doing new "Intelliquote" commercial on C2C sounds remarkably like Steven Qayle?

Although it would be a smarter move for Premrad to develope another host like Rob Simone, I think they just want a steady income, and NOT cutting edge radio like C2C used to be.

I am a streamlink member, but I rarely listen to whole shows anymore, unless Knapp is hosting, or the rare occasion that GN actually has a decent guest.
I want a good radio show, and I'll remain hopefull that someone out there will pick up where Art left off. Some people are trying, but unless I'm missing something, nobody has come close yet. As far as I'm concerned, the old spirit of C2C is as dead as it can get, and with Premrad running the show and calling the shots, not to mention keeping Snoory around, its pretty well done.

When or if someone picks up the mike out there, they should avoid the corporate types as much as possible, and keep creative control. I want another good late night program, but its not here...yet.

What was the story with that Mike Seigal guy?  Same for Simone what happened to him?  Are they like last min substitute teachers or something?  I was listening to my fresh Sitchin stuff (thanks again 999) and heard a show he hosted. He wasn't bad but I didn't find him particularly good either.

Exactly.  Hundreds of channels in a vast TV wasteland.  There's plenty of money to be made by catering to the lowest common denominator.  What's one of the most watched TV shows now?  "America's Got Talent?"  How ironic.  It hasn't found it's way to C2C.

That's precisely what and where the problem is, as is the case with many other things in the world these days, -- the problem of "money-making greed," the profit motive.  Forget about public service or a career/professional calling.   :(

Welcome to C2C by corporate committee.  Look at Art Bell.  Sure he made plenty of money off of Coast, and more power to him, but Art was hardly a "corporate type."  Anything but.  He was a very talented, intelligent maverick who knew radio.  It wasn't a hobby or his job.  It was Art's passion.  Sorry, but I don't see a lot of hope of anything close to Art again with C2C under the standard corporate approach.  Just more clones, like Noory and The Mother Ship.

Omni Consumer Products (OCP) is now in charge of C2C.

Art revolutionized overnight radio.  Noory was handed what should have been a dream job.  He lied about being 'fascinated' with the topics 'all his life'.  Ever hear him ask a good question or make an interesting observation?  Seems like someone with his lifelong interest would do so regularly.

All George had to do was keep it going, but he is stupid, lazy, disinterested in the world around him, bored, and boring.  This was a plum job and he decided he'd rather be miserable doing it than put some effort in and make it fun.

You've got it.  As the scorpion said to the frog, "this is my nature."  Art was by nature a sharp, inquisitive guy."  It was his nature.  Noory?  We are all too painfully aware of his nature, or lack of.

ManiacMatt

Noory was interviewed on Darkness Radio podcast which is free on itunes.  It is the 12/15/11 show.  It's all typical bullshit from GN.  So much of his stories from his childhood and his so called interest in the paranormal at an early age sound so fake.  He stated on this interview that he has kicked off numerous guests for being a fraud and just trying to get money out of people.  Yeah right!  Then why haven't you banned Hoagland?  Noory is just a complete bullshitter and he isn't that good at it.

Oversoul

There is a Wikipedia entry on George Noory at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Noory.  There's a segment there about Noory's "on-air style," which reads as follows:

QuoteIn an article about Noory published in the news magazine The Atlantic, Timothy Lavin wrote that "Noory can be an uneven broadcaster, sometimes seems to not pay full attention to his guests, offers strangely obvious commentary, and often lets clearly delusional or pseudoscientific assertions slide by without challenge."  According to Media Life Magazine, "Noory says it doesn’t matter whether he believes what his callers and guests say. Ultimately, it's about entertainment, creating a show that people will be drawn to." Author and frequent Coast to Coast AM guest Whitley Strieber has commented on Noory's style, asserting "It's not that he's credulous or easily led. He's willing to take these intellectual journeys. He'll have guests on that you think are completely off the wall -- nothing they're saying is real -- but by the end of the program you will have made a discovery that there is a kernel of a question worth exploring."  (Emphasis mine.)

According to Whitley Strieber, Noory takes "intellectual journeys."  Intellectual journeys? :o   What the...?   No comment!  Except for Timothy Lavin's quoted comments at the beginning, I'm so totally brain-shocked and speechless here.  :-X

Now, here's a truly worthwhile, public service project for CoastGab posters: Go to the Wikipedia site, do the necessary editorial work, and tell the world the truth from the CoastGabbers' point of view!

There is also a Wikiquote listing of Noory quotes at http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/George_Noory.  Adding stupid Noory quotes or his idiotic remarks to that Wikiquote list seems to be a very tempting, juicy and easy undertaking for CoastGabbers.  ;D

How about it, CoastGabbers?

Morgus

That longtime regular caller got on yet again in the first hour tonight: Bill from West Hartford, Conn. who always announces he is an atheist amateur astronomer.

Here's another "brilliant" question from George to a guest from 7-9-12 at about 11:15 PT, 'Are the differences between different species caused by genetics?'

The guest, no doubt stunned by Noory's level of understanding, paused for a few seconds and then said, "Ah, yes."

I call absolute BS if Noory made a statement to the effect that he has kicked numerous guests off the program for being frauds. I know of no occasion - not one single time - in which Noory stated to the guest he found him/her to be a fraud and was therefore terminating the interview. I don't even know of any occasion on which Noory told the audience he had done so after the guest was gone, when he even didn't have to summon the moral courage to accuse the guest "face to face". I don't think George has even said so after the guest's back was turned and out of hearing, as if he said days or months later, "I dropped so-and-so". Nope.

In other words, if it were a crime to terminate a guest's slot earlier than advertised, for any reason, then I think George couldn't be convicted of that: I don't think there is any unequivocal evidence he has ever dropped any guest - and most certainly not for being a fraud.

I want to be fair. We need to establish exactly what it was George said. Can you get a quote, ManiacMatt? And can anyone defend George on this? Can anyone point to a time when he did what he claimed to have done in the interview with Darkness Radio? It's quite possible George may have dropped guests, but I charge that he has never let the audience know it. He never did so in such a way that anyone could have possibly known 1)the guest was dropped, and certainly not because 2) he thought the guest was a fraud.

Also, I want to make sure this isn't a misunderstanding. When George said "I've kicked off numerous guests for being a fraud", he might really have meant, "I would never, ever drop anyone for any reason - who am I to say what's fraud?".

George, being the weak, simpering, spineless and soft thing he is, wants to have it both ways: he wants to be seen as and get credit for being a tough defender of truth and the protector of his listeners; but without ever having to do anything to earn that rep, like get all icky-poo and actually stand up for something he believes in, make a stand and take action. He'd have to find something to believe in in the first place, and I don't mean that there aren't any coincidences or that there's really something going on out there.
