Interesting AP piece on Justice Ginsburg today.  She sheds a little light on her relationship with Justice Scalia.

In the wide-ranging interview, Ginsburg reviewed the just-ended term during which she lost her best friend on the court and, partly as a result, was on the winning side of most of the high-profile cases. Justice Antonin Scalia died in February, depriving his conservative allies of a reliable vote and leaving eight justices to decide nearly five dozen cases.

She said she misses the colorful, outspoken Scalia, whom she described as charming. "The public got the wrong impression of him," she said. Among the many pictures and mementos in her office is one of the two of them atop an elephant in India many years ago.

Without him, she said, the court is "a paler place." But she thinks she and her colleagues did well to divide 4-4 in only four cases, including one that effectively killed Obama's plan to help millions of immigrants who are living in the country illegally.

A new and insidious notion being promulgated in the MSM is that, by electing a black or woman President (or other hi-vis leader), the majority gives itself a pass to revert to abuse and discrimination.  I've heard this repeatedly in recent days and see the liberal pundits nodding in agreement when it's expressed.  The core of this truly perverse notion seems to be that the "oppressive" majority is deeply incorrigible and will never change until it is forced on them.  This isn't going to end well.

Mental health resources are deficient, but I've always felt that the core of the problem is that many of the afflicted are either in denial or incapable of voluntarily seeking care.  And, IIRC, medical insurance only deals with institutionalized care.  How many suicide victims avoided help because it would cost them a week's pay to just speak to a professional, if they could get in within a few weeks?

The leaders in this government don't care because, usually, suicide by guns are middle-aged, white men (not the voting demographic they care about) and the veteran suicides, in a perverse way, saves the government money in terms of healthcare costs at the VA, pensions/salaries, RIFs, etc. And it also helps demoralize our military. And both further swings the desired demographic shift for more Democrat voters.

I like to use the term regressives myself but traitors works too.  However, the Democrats aren't the only ones.  McConnell, Ryan and many other Republicans fall into that category too.

We have no, or limited, culture because we don't have a nation, at least any more. There is no common language, religion, race or ethnicity, creed, mores, rule of law, descent, tradition, agreement on policy, a border, or anything that would define a nation. In some cases we have a few- but a good percentage of the population doesn't realize why such traditions, like some of our holidays, exist and, in other cases, certain once commonly celebrated holidays and traditions are banned from the public spaces.  The solemn ones have just been turned into another day to bbq or go shopping. Our culture, such as it is, is determined by, or seeks, the lowest common denominator and the most base of human behavior, often.

We do have a country, so to speak, for now, but a nation? Not for a long time. And the acceleration of Obama's Balkanization schemes via promoting class, race, gender (and self-identified gender benders or gender-less,) and ethnic division and strife, encouraging groups like BLM or illegals to riot and attack, opening the border to violent cartels and uneducate and diseased people of all types, and accepting unvetted, unidentified "refugees" from radical Muslim countries will soon eliminate the 'country' aspect also.

I've decided that for the entire month of August, I am not going to listen to any political talk radio.  Sure, I'll check out the news sites and such to keep up with events as they happen but too much of my time is taken up by the same old garbage every day.  Yeah, I know the USA is in a shitty state but nothing is going to be done until November so why bother getting my panties in a wad over it. Plus, I'm sick and tired of the yelling and screaming.

August will be rock and roll month in my house with side trips into blues, jazz, country, R & B and Swing.

We're 1 yr + into election swamp for finding a new US leader...and just look at the fucking finalists we've got!  The Brits, OTOH, have completed the whole bloody process in less than three weeks from a surprise start and the only controversy is "Who gets the cat?". 

Our quaint American political system is really becoming more like a degenerative disease.

What we have is plainly NOT working anymore. The popular vote, you say? Less; often far less; than 60% of those qualified actually voting. Popular?  The Brits just turned out 72% for the Brexit referendum.  An oligarchy created within a failing constitutional process is still an oligarchy. "E pluribus unum" should be retired and replaced with "Corporatia sunt populo".
