During gradeschool we were taught the metric system. The teacher told us we needed to learn it because the USA would transition to it!
All that 'learning' for nothing! ;)

I think you still need the metric system to purchase drugs.

Ya usually hear "pounds of weed", but "kilos of coke".  Although I always heard the number 8 in "8 ball" coming from it being 3.5g, the same weight as a "eighth" of weed.

I still buy my dope by the lid.

That has a lot to do with how these drugs are transferred within the black market, which has existed for far longer than ready access to accurate, portable scales has been.

One guy gets a pound. He splits it with someone in half, that's easy, one can eyeball it. You can do it on the rolling deck of a sailing ship, if you have to. "Here's your half, here's mine." Easy. Then that guy takes it to another: "here's your half." On and on, and eventually, right around the time it gets split thrice, someone looks at what they have and says, "fuck this, I paid retail." Then they go get a large load, split that in half, et cetera. It's the cycle of commerce! All hail the Invisible Hand of the market!

Powders are different. Sure, you can split it in half, but a few milligrams of the stuff will get a newbie high, or kill a small child--can't really leave that lying around, right? So scales are more common. But with cannabis, I mean, weed, I mean, Marry, d'you wanna? It is pretty much an eyeball game. Especially since it is easy to distinguish top-shelf medicine from dirtweed schwag, once one has ever had the fortune to kiss the Green Goddess.

Except, of course, things are changing, in that everyone pretty much has a digital scale now. They cost like ten bucks. Almost as cheap as a bottle opener! That's a great idea for a product, actually: a combination scale, bottle opener, and radar detector. It'll fly off the shelves, I'm tellin' ya.

The Swiss Army sell one of these. They have scissors too for your convenience. Add a rolling paper dispenser and a lighter and you're good to go.

Before my time.  Thinking I heard it's a measurement where you're going by the size of the pile instead of what a scale says it is.  Similar to a measurement like "how many fingers is it across"...?

My belief has always been at sometime between where it originated and it got to me that it was measured on a scale at least once, and decisions were made based on the result.  So I'd prefer it to be measured when it reaches me.

Jesus, who uses scissors? By the way, what do they call "dabbing," Down Under?

Rolling deck... good one!

Used to work in the office supply store industry in the mid 90's.  Every now and then someone would come in asking about digital scales we stocked.  Expensive and not very accurate.  I'm thinking 300-500 dollars for ones that were accurate to a gram, maybe half a gram.  And once ya got to noticing the signs, you could tell what they were going to be used for. The whole accuracy/ price thing... that has definitely fucking changed.

Use your fingers, or grinders?  Hell, some people don't do either and just use extracts nowadays.

In most parts of middle America, everyone knows how much a nickel weighs--nearly exactly five grams--but the people who know who's face is on the nickel, and why, is a growing shrinking percentage of the electorate.

EDIT: Sorry, I am fucking high.

EDIT2: Yes, I had to write this post three times to get it right. What? What? Fuck you!

One where just about every tobacco store (or some convenience stores) carries them.  Friend of had to borrow them for a bit when his son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.  Special diet the doctor put him on... They have other uses.

Try this if you get a chance.  5 quarters are more than an ounce... but if you're talking pocket change... 5 quarters damn near weigh an ounce.

Just read about new nickels.  Apparently that's changing.

As far as concepts go, "calibration" and "damn near" are really not very congruent.

Can we talk about what annoys me?
False representation?  Lies?  Deceit?
When can we talk about that, Jackstar?

Where is the time and place?
Four years and I'm still waiting for an answer.

Nickel is supposed to be 5.00g,  5 quarters are supposed to be 28.35g.  Figuring factors like surface wear due circulation, etc. ... ya would be better off just paying about 20 dollars for a calibration set.  Most people don't even though they should do that from time to time, especially after changing batteries.

BTW Edited last post. Linked an article that said nickels are gonna be changing...

No!
It has everything to do with my dislike false representation.
And cowardice.

People should just be honest, and it seems this ENTIRE SITE is about how the government, world and people in it would rather LIE than admit to what they're doing.
Not just the president.
Not just the senators.
But you and all the little people too, with those little white lies that are really JUST ANOTHER LIE.

Hmm but you seem to have a particular dislike of Jackstar? That isn't a criticism, just an observation. (The name is a bit of a giveaway). I don't presume you're his ex incidentally, but it's interesting.

Oh, but you're willing to presume that MH370 crashed in the ocean.

Call me cynical, but frankly I don't think your 'ex' is going to address that..We both know that, and whatever they say will rattle you. You could keep on the CT line of thought but I don't honestly think your 'ex' will give it much consideration.

That man?
Is a coward.
The reason he has hate for me?
Is because he won't address his own issues like the 'man' he claims he is.  (Notice him ignoring me?)
The reason I hate him?
Is because he won't address the issues he's created with me, either.

And I don't mind visiting his hang out to call him out on his BS.

That plane crash?  No.
I don't believe it crashed in the ocean, nor have I ever.
Nor have I EVER mentioned said thing.
I said it was hijacked and taken to a remote area.
I PRESUME the mass-media's incessant search caused the hijackers no option but to kill the passangers.

The why's and what-fors?
Never interested me.

And he knows as much, if he'd listen, because I've said so.

Oh please, go that route.

Jackyboy, get the video cam going and call 911 when she shows.  It'll be comedy gold as you tell the 911 operator that she is screeching about the grassy knoll and that she 'don't know nothin' 'bout birthin' no babies!'  The coppers will taze the dogshit out of her and then give her some flashlight shampoo for resisting arrest.  You tube gold, baby.
