maybe the powers that be should do invest a smidge more into infrastructure?  seeing how commerce is the cornerstone of our economy.  maybe i'm just a pussy.  i don't know

the propensity for fraud makes a good argument for using only cash for transactions

I think many times, companies use the term hacking, in place of employee left their laptop in an unsecure location.

The united states postal service ..
They suck ass

but i don't know of anyone else who will physically transport an envelope to the other side of the country for me for less than $.50 with successful deliveries an overwhelming majority of the time.  that's an amazing accomplishment, i think.

Agreed.  My loss rate with the post office is less than a quarter of a percent, and I have no way of knowing how many of those are people just lying to us, which I'm sure happens now and then.    You can ship a 3oz item for $1.69 and it will get from Washington State to NY in 3 days.  13oz, which covers so many items we sell I can't even tell you costs less than $3.50 for that same service.   The post office is incredible.   You should use insurance if shipping anything of value.   But it is my experience in dealing with thousands and thousands of people that 99.99% of everyone in this world is honest.   You will find a bad apple anywhere - UPS, Fedex, the post office, even some loser trailing your carrier in a car.   I'd much rather lose an insured package than my wallet.    Sorry redacted.

Being cold. Even a little bit. I'm thinking of buying one of those Antarctic expedition jackets.

Ha yeah I've thought that myself.  Also, maybe they saved a few bucks and hired a rookie system admin who's happy with the default settings on all server software and uses the time saved to catch up on facebook posts.

Invest in some good cognac.  It doesn't really keep you warm but it makes you think you're warm and it's saving me in this coldest winter I've yet experienced.

I think the big names are Courvoisier, Hennessy, & Remy Martin.  Having only recently broadened my spirit indulgences beyond scotch I don't have alot of knowledge.  I do know the grades go upwards from VS to VSOP to XO and have to do with how long they're aged.  I thought it might be too sweet but the good stuff is more like scotch, refined, complex, and rich with a hint of caramel sweetness.

I've been hitting the Courvoisier VSOP which is a little spendy but IMHO worth it.  There are a bunch of other brandies which aren't produced in the Cognac region of France which also have their pros/cons.

Make sure you get a real brandy/cognac glass which gently warms this elixer of life as you hold the glass.  In fact I think I'll pour me one tonite to warm up me belly.

Sounds delicious. I've been a bourbon drinker for the last couple of years & haven't seen the need to branch out, but you're making me rethink this position.

If you really want to have fun, get some Everclear & the hottest fuckin' habanero sauce you can find. Take a few slugs of Everclear, then a few slugs of habanero sauce, then turn on some Merzbow or Masonna super fuckin' loud.

Glass will be broken.

See, that sounds like a great idea, but I don't want to be wearing a jacket like this in Penn Station...

You don't want to end up on the no ride list.

I'm a bourbon drinker and I like Courvoisier VSOP. It's smooth and warms you up. Or so you think. But invest in the good stuff. It's worth it.

Wow, you are lucky, I think.   I usually write if off if there is a lost package - in my experience packages lost for more than a week are rarely "found".   Because I do so much business with all of the services, they typically try to help me whenever and however they can.  But UPS is by far the worst for customer service.   Try getting in touch with a driver and you'll never do it unless you can catch them as they're running from your door.   FedEx will have drivers call you, which is impressive service, IMO.   Oh, by the way, UPS isn't moving ground packages today - but both the post office and FedEx are.    Why is it that the post office can get their unions to work, but UPS can't?  Fucking lazy union UPS workers.

I like Martell myself but can't go wrong with the Courvoisier VSOP. Make sure to order a coke back if you are at a bar, Bateman.

They photograph it to run the image through a computer. The label is analyzed and the address placed in the computer (OCR) so it can be routed quickly.

Some MIT engineering student showed up at an airport with some kind of flashing wearable computing and was arrested..the works. I need to find an article.
found it http://www.boston.com/news/globe/city_region/breaking_news/2007/09/mit_student_arr.html

And who can forget the Boston appearance of the Mooninite's sign.

i recently sent a package 2nd day priority (USPS). it arrived a full 6 business days later. note a 1st class letter sent to this person takes 4 days... the person was a postmaster (gf's sister)... answer for the delay was "its not a guaranteed 2 days" .

For priority, in my experience about half the packages arrive in 2 days, probably 45% arrive in 3, 4% in 4 and 1% beyond that.

there's definitely a 'look at me' factor to social media.  the proper use of social media would eliminate these insane mass emails you used to get with some poem or some image or whatever that someone thought was clever or cute.  instead it has become a sea of selfies where young people try to convince each other that they are players and not worthless dweebs.

there's a place for social media but when properly used it shouldn't take more that ten or twenty minutes. imho

it seems social media has really warped a generation of minds in terms of how they view "normal" social interaction.  i think we are about to enter an era of true social upheaval as kids who are currently 15 enter their 40s and 50s.  they are so profoundly inept socially that i can't imagine what insanity will befall the world when they begin running the world.  of every girl i know in the 15'ish age range, they all make the same stupid fish lipped pose on every redundant picture, every fucking time.  it infuriates me when i see it, and i just have to think there are long term psychological implications to all of this.  perhaps the end result will be that it drives me crazy, and everyone else ends up being just fine.

I agree.

In my circle of "friends" it's either look at me for the singles, look at us for the couples, look at my kids for the breeders and I don't know how to use this new fangled social media for the oldies.

I'm a breeder and am guilty as charged. I happen to think my kids are pretty damn cute and you must look. Sorry. Sue me. :P

I dunno. I just got in touch with long lost, far flung cousins via social media, so there's that. None of us young children to brag about, another plus I guess. The only drawback is the saccharine Come to Jesus stuff my cousin out west keeps sending, but I'm sure she recoils in horror when she reads my timeline, too, heh heh.
