It is not our country we have to worry about.  Talk to China and India.  I'm all for pollution control but not for this man-made climate change nonsense.  The CO2 theory in particular.
The Great Coral Reef is dying or dead from acidified waters which are caused by excess carbon in the atmosphere.  Wishful thinking will not reverse such things.

Strange, that you sound so sure while 97% of the WORLD'S scientists disagree with you.  Is this a huge conspiracy the world over?

The Constellation...Another classic...and the same plane that became the first work horse of TWA internationally...

Very nostalgic...

Are you going to sulk now son? Until uncle MV comes and sorts out the nasty boys? That'll show em, eh? Then you can tweet Ol Don and tell him what a brave little soldier you were.

No, but there are several other threads where you can discuss planes, wanker!  ::)

We have quite a few P-8's mothballed down here at Davis Monthan...with the build up under Trump, they'll be back in service in 2017...I drive by them daily and saw one being re-serviced just last week...

You mean 737s? Because the P-8 is brand new and based on the 737 - Australia and India are buying them to replace the Orions

Biden says he's going to run for Pres in 2020 when he'll be 79. Yeah, that's all we need in the white house: a creepy, senile old pedophile.   ::) ;D

Be interesting to see how hard it'd be to put them into airline service, because the old 717/MD twinjets are super in demand and don't come on market frequently

Strange, that you sound so sure while 97% of the WORLD'S scientists disagree with you.  Is this a huge conspiracy the world over?

The bleaching of the coral reef is caused by warmer waters caused by warming.  The jury is still out as to whether the planet has been warming due to natural climate change or has been influenced by man and CO2.  To correct the record, only 97% of the actively published climate scientists agree not 97% of the world's scientists.

I refer you to the below article which is responsible for clarifying this error.  They rate it as mostly true but another site could say with the same facts that it is mostly false.

I further invite you to peruse this Forbes article where I've taken a section from that clarifies things even further.

How do we know the 97% agree?

To elaborate, how was that proven?

Almost no one who refers to the 97% has any idea, but the basic way it works is that a researcher reviews a lot of scholarly papers and classifies them by how many agree with a certain position.

Unfortunately, in the case of 97% of climate scientists agreeing that human beings are the main cause of warming, the researchers have engaged in egregious misconduct.

One of the main papers behind the 97 percent claim is authored by John Cook, who runs the popular website SkepticalScience.com, a virtual encyclopedia of arguments trying to defend predictions of catastrophic climate change from all challenges.

Here is Cook’s summary of his paper: “Cook et al. (2013) found that over 97 percent [of papers he surveyed] endorsed the view that the Earth is warming up and human emissions of greenhouse gases are the main cause.”

This is a fairly clear statementâ€"97 percent of the papers surveyed endorsed the view that man-made greenhouse gases were the main causeâ€"main in common usage meaning more than 50 percent.

But even a quick scan of the paper reveals that this is not the case. Cook is able to demonstrate only that a relative handful endorse “the view that the Earth is warming up and human emissions of greenhouse gases are the main cause.” Cook calls this “explicit endorsement with quantification” (quantification meaning 50 percent or more). The problem is, only a small percentage of the papers fall into this category; Cook does not say what percentage, but when the study was publicly challenged by economist David Friedman, one observer calculated that only 1.6 percent explicitly stated that man-made greenhouse gases caused at least 50 percent of global warming.

Where did most of the 97 percent come from, then? Cook had created a category called “explicit endorsement without quantification”â€"that is, papers in which the author, by Cook’s admission, did not say whether 1 percent or 50 percent or 100 percent of the warming was caused by man. He had also created a category called “implicit endorsement,” for papers that imply (but don’t say) that there is some man-made global warming and don’t quantify it. In other words, he created two categories that he labeled as endorsing a view that they most certainly didn’t.

The 97 percent claim is a deliberate misrepresentation designed to intimidate the publicâ€"and numerous scientists whose papers were classified by Cook protested:

“Cook survey included 10 of my 122 eligible papers. 5/10 were rated incorrectly. 4/5 were rated as endorse rather than neutral.”

I thought it would take a while for a mothballed plane to be put into service.  But in the Gulf War, only a few weeks after Saddam invaded Kuwait, planes painted up as Braniff and other shut down airlines were flying Marines out of MCAS Cherry Point.

Well, for reasons better know to herself, Ivanka Trump has decided to get cosy with, of all people, Al Gore to discuss it, because she's concerned. Which means her daddy is too.

Depends a lot on the climatic environment too. Temperate climates might have them wrapped up in plastic cling wrap. Engines sealed. Fuel drained, batteries on trickle charge. Wheels off and airframe supported at the hard points to take the stress off the wing spar.

I don't blame her because she has been fed this stuff by the media for many years.  She strikes me as a bit gullible but that is ok.  I want to clarify my stance on this whole business.  I'm for examining the causes of any warming that may be going on but my skepticism goes through the roof when politicians try to make it a political issue so they can raise taxes and go overboard on regulations.  Clearly in the case of the whole 97% business, they have been disingenuous. I don't like fearmongering which is something Gore has been engaged in for far too long.  I do worry about ecological issues.  For example, I worry about the mass deforestation of the Amazon river basin.   I worry about the leakage from Fukushima into the Pacific.  These are things to worry about.
