The electoral college should be done away with.  The apportionment of electorates is by the census and depends on the population of 1 to 10 years ago.  The popular vote is dependent on the population at the time of the election.  The only difference is that the electoral college can choose a 'winner' against the will of the people.  They do not have to reflect the popular vote.  In other words, it is a way of rigging an election.

Actually, it's a way to ensure ALL Americans are included in the campaign, not just the big population centers.  It's a way to ensure certain parts of the country aren't pandered to at the expense of others.
