Not being an anti-Christian bigot myself, can you explain the reasoning behind its appeal?

2. Can say in one word what might otherwise take a paragraph.

4. It helps _me_ to finally be able to put a name to (for example) the alt-christian stuff I'd been hearing on contemporary American Catholic radio over the past few years. There is/has-been a united-front, a christian-right front,  (more dangerous than Islam we know now) of efforts and contributors for decades in the US, all of it leading to the recent (sick) victory of same.

The man cannot trust himself enough to have dinner with a woman who is not his wife, or attend a function and have a drink if his wife is not present?  You argue that  "anyone is liable to make wreckless decisions  under the influence of alchohol, especially when we are young." And I agree- but Pence is not 18.

If he cannot trust himself to NOT act on impulse and jump a woman after a martini, can he trust himself enough not to punch a foreign dignitary in the face if he gets upset?  He is old enough to have learned self-control and it is kind of scary if he still cannot even trust himself...

***All of this said- I do agree that it really is his business (and his wifes) how he wishes to interact with people.  Maybe she is a psycho jealous bitch and this is just him protecting himself from getting punched when he gets home after a drink at the pub with friends?

From what I understand it is an agreement that they entered into when they were first married that has served them well and they are comfortable with.  Aside from fearing that he was going to have two cocktails and jump somebody's bones, there could be any number of reasons why it is a beneficial arrangement.   Maybe part of it is they were concerned about political foes setting him up to create the appearance of a scandal. Maybe it was to ensure that they had the benefit of someone they could trust being present as a hedge against misinterpretation by well oiled party-goers of something said or done that may be be seized upon by a political antagonist to cause embarrassment.  It also could simply be that in the early days when they weren't chauffeured one of them acted as the designated driver.

What amazes me is that flap jawed gossips can't get their heads around the idea that a young couple might enter into such an agreement to signify their commitment to each other and to protect their marriage and that they have steadfastly honored that agreement through a long successful marriage.  It is perfectly consistent with their known personal values and religious beliefs.  I guess this offends some of you who have little in the way of wholesome values or a belief system that guides you as evidenced by your cheap disdainful speculations.  Maybe if Pence got a BJ in the Oval Office from an intern or had someone go on record as having had a homosexual relationship with him in a Chicago Hotel you would have more respect for him.
