I finished a biography of Judas a few years ago.  Part of the way through I started wondering how it was that artists through time depicted Judas as a Jew while depicting Christ and the other disciples as "good Europeans."

I've also seen a number of renderings of Judas as 'black.'  Or at least, much darker than the rest of the disciples.  Maybe it was in case stoopid ppl might not recognize the jewish goy holding the sack of coins was the one that dimed out The Messiah.

I don't think most Muslims would disagree, even if they didn't admit it.  At least they would have a clear understanding, and we could work from there.

The problem with Islam is that there is no room for compromise.  There is nothing in its doctrine that is tantamount to "render unto Caeser what is Caeser's."  It's all about its superiority to all other religions and it ultimately becoming the world's religion.  Muslims famously do not chose to become integrated into any culture but their own.  There may be many who practice Islam who have no ill intentions but since their doctrine makes it okay for them to lie to and deceive infidels how can they be trusted.  I see nothing to be gained from pandering to muslims. Their loyalty to America is highly questionable in my mind and any effort to win them over would be fruitless.

It's a hideous practice no matter how traditional.  There was  a time when people were routinely bled as a remedy for almost any ailment.  There was also a time when doctors didn't wash their hands between surgical patients.  I doubt if God ever told anyone to perform that particular act and for it to still be practiced in modern times is indefensible.

I once saw a depiction of Judas with red hair and a black halo in a church in Spain. Not sure I'm buying this "Judas is always being depicted as Jewish" stuff. I'm sure there's some art like that, but fundamentally it seems to be art historians doing nose interpretation.

Here you go.  It is pretty much the driest reading book that you can imagine  (it as very difficult to actually get through and extremely boring unless you care about 11th - 17th century religious art.  I believe there is a reason that used hard covers are $.01 and new hardcovers are $.66[6?])  I don't think she says that he ONLY was  depicted  with Jewish traits.  She simply states that is the way he historically was depicted and provides a number of examples...
