... Boeing won't close that down, tariffs or no tariffs. It will just add to the customer paying more for their tickets.

That's not how the economy works.

Prices are based on supply and demand, and what the competition is charging, not on the expenses the business incurs.

Plane parts made in the UK, for delivery to any customer outside the US, wouldn't be subject to any proposed US tariffs.

By the way, talk of tariffs is the opening bid for some future negotiation of trade terms.  There aren't going to be steep new tariffs across the board.  What there is going to be are trade terms that are more fair to the US.  If that doesn't happen, then tariffs would be applied to specific countries and products - as they should be

Too many people and governments complained about noise meaning only certain routes (ie transatlantic) were possible, plus higher associated fuel and maintenance costs.
I've heard there's a group who are trying to restore a Concorde to flying condition, but there are a variety of other groups who are 'working' on new supersonic passenger plane designs and technologies. Basically though more supersonic passenger planes are not going to happen unless the noise issue is dealt with, but even then it'll probably just be a niche thing like private jets. This picture is an example of a newish technology (the lance) which might help someday:

Yeah, they are illegal by FAA over the States due to the noise (I don't know I saw some article about a new nose cone design that would limit the noise pollution on a super-sonic jet. I always don't know if flying higher could mitigate?) But for intercontinental use it would be a cool time-saving thing, particularly as the world does so much more business between countries like China, Korea, etc and us. Get over to Europe so quickly etc.

It is a neat statute and certainly adds to the NY architecture and tourism but I never understood why some The Statue of Liberty is given such reverence, over our actual history, founding legal documents, actual history, Founding Fathers's writings, etc. It was a relatively late addition to the country, given to us from France and financed by a yellow-journalist's campaign for donations, and the famous poem inscription (added later, I might mention,) written by some quasi-socialist Zionist poet. Still these papers showing beheading of the Statue, or like the Irish paper, showing a bullseye, as from a rifle's scope, on Trump, is a bit questionable or at least in poor taste. But understandable considering the violence seen in those countries by terrorists of Muslim or Irish types (I recall that the IRA helped the Palestinians perfect the car-bomb and also were involved with certain large South American terror/drug groups in the past.)

Oh come on, that is low!  It is a great sonnet, perhaps the greatest American one.  Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!  It shouldn't be allowed to wholly reinterpret the statue, as it does with renaming her "Mother of Exiles", but a goddess can have many titles.

Yeah the US wasn't the only one to ban them - I think Singapore Airlines and British Airways both trialed flights elsewhere like to Australia, but it just became impossible to do.

The spike in the pics I posted before is meant to split up the sonic boom into smaller/weaker ones, so might be what you read about. Made by Gulfstream, who are probably making the fastest passenger planes at the moment.

Yes, it shows little to no knowledge of history. I think that particular comparison is starting to lose steam so now Bannon is a Communist. Look for a flurry of posts about this.

What do you know- even snopes lists this as unproven.

I apologize, but I feel the need to check with the bellgab experts and require an official ruling before I will accept the above statements.

Are the Denver Post and Snopes "Trump approved", or are they just more "fake news outlets?"  Asking for a friend who has been tricked by the lying media and fake news one too many times.

True. God(s) also. Was reading, per an earlier post, the Muslim 99 names for God. Actually pretty interesting and often contradictory, Al-Khafid and Ar-Rafiʿ for example, which would make sense in that a universal entity would necessary contain everything. And why did they stop at 99? Some symbolic or numerology reason? Or just got tired and said- "enough names already, Achmed! Now stop and do your homework and your chores!"

Some of us here will remember these birds.
Speaking of women and cross-country journeys:

"Norwegian immigrant and suffragist Helga Estby is remembered for her heroic seven-month walk from Spokane to New York City in 1896, a publicity wager that she expected would pay her $10,000 and save the family farm from foreclosure. Leaving a husband and five children at home in Mica Creek, 36-year-old Helga and her 17-year-old daughter Clara set out from Spokane on May 6, 1896, and walked rail lines east. Helga skillfully handled a publicity campaign, stopping at newspaper offices along their route. Inspired by journalist Nelly Bly (1864-1922), Helga hoped one day to publish the story of their trip. Mother and daughter worked for food, lodging, and other needed items along the way -- never begged -- and were graciously aided by supportive and hospitable people, including famous politicians, Native Americans, journalists, and suffragists. But the journey was arduous. They climbed mountains; survived severe storms, floods, bitter cold, and heat waves; confronted wild animals; and escaped highwaymen. Together they wore out 32 pairs of shoes. Helga and Clara survived the trip of 4,600 miles and reached New York City on December 23, 1896, only to find no cash prize at the end of their amazing journey."

Surely there are more qualified surgeons and doctors in the Islamic Republic of Iran or in one of those vaunted "socialist medicine" countries in Europe than in the Islamophobic, evil, racist, capitalist, sexist, United States of Hate, aka "great satan?"

Haha yeah guessing they are leaving room for one they forgot, like the altar to the unknown god.  Interesting parallel to "he hath cast down the mighty from their seat, and hath exalted the humble."

Somebody should really set the whole poem to music.  Irving Berlin famously used the last part, but pentameter is difficult.

Between the fact that now we have to pay for the stupid Wall and crap like this, Im waiting to see how our taxes are actually going to go down

Eric Trump’s business trip to Uruguay cost taxpayers $97,830 in hotel bills

"When the president-elect’s son Eric Trump jetted to Uruguay in early January for a Trump Organization promotional trip, U.S. taxpayers were left footing a bill of nearly $100,000 in hotel rooms for Secret Service and embassy staff.

It was a high-profile jaunt out of the country for Eric, the fresh-faced executive of the Trump Organization who, like his father, pledged to keep the company separate from the presidency. Eric mingled with real estate brokers, dined at an open-air beachfront eatery and spoke to hundreds at an “ultra exclusive” Trump Tower Punta del Este evening party celebrating his visit.

The Uruguayan trip shows how the government is unavoidably entangled with the Trump company as a result of the president’s refusal to divest his ownership stake."

Why does he look so mentally deficient? Genetics, I guess

Yeah, could be. I've been told like with a Persian rugs or the beautiful tile and masonry work etc that there always is a purposeful small defect, as nothing can be perfect except God.

;) Maybe so. I hope she is thoroughly scanned though I would be more suspect if she was Sunni. Speaking of that I heard something on the news about a situation when producer Emma Tillinger Koskoff said something about her IUD at the airport and the ever-alert TSA agent thought she said IED and searched her.

Mental illness isn't a problem with using potentially dangerous stuff. The house has just overturned a rule that prevents mentally ill people legally having firearms. Nothing to worry about.

No, the House overturned an Obama executive order that ordered Social Security recipients to give up their 2nd amendment rights who were accused of being mentally ill.  You know how in divorce cases, one party will say the other party is mentally ill.  Well to get social security payments, those accused of being mentally ill were told to give up their 2nd amendment rights without due process.  Even the ACLU said this was wrong.

Here is a report from National Review on the subject.  Do proper research before you comment, pud.

Chump change next to the 85 million of taxpayers money that Obama spent on his numerous vacations during his presidency.

In case you hadn't noticed, the nation is still grieving for the victims of the latest senseless tragedy. How about giving it a rest until people had had a chance to heal. Don't you have salsa to make, anyway? I expect my windows to be rattled tomorrow after you've snarfed down a bowl or two.

You can't take away someone's 2nd Amendment rights without due process.  Simply being accused of a mental illness outside of a doctor's opinion isn't due process.

It's surprising to see so many liberals against so many Bill of Rights,(excluding Yorkshire Pud, since he is from Britain).  The are against the 2nd Amendment, the 5th Amendment, and increasingly so the 1st Amendment.

Weird times.
