People will do all kinds of things for all kinds of reasons - so no doubt there is  some of that going on.  But I'd rather think that this is one more step toward normalizing something that has been seen as abnormal, abhorrent, and evil to the point of justifying violent death. And that is not ancient history, that is contemporary reality. The more high-profile people admit to being gay, and the more the average Joe or Jane says 'oh ho-hum who cares!?" the closer we are to seeing homosexuality as a normal variation that may require minor accommodation, like left-handedness, and nothing more.


I had a brother and a sister who were left handed.  They always got to sit at the head and foot of the table so they would not keep elbowing whoever was sitting beside them.   As the youngest - I thought it an unfair advantage.

I was only out in the heat for a few hours each day the past two days and I'm sporting a bit of a burn...

It hasn't been quite as bad here in the northeast, but still miserable by my wimpy standards. (I'm a winter/spring guy - love being outside when it's below 65 or so) I have two a/c units in the house and one is rather old so I'm just crossing my fingers that it makes it through the season. I've certainly been putting on a little sunscreen if I'm gonna be out for a while. This summer I've gotten that goofy driver's tan where one arm is a different color than the other. Maybe on a nice day when it's 75-80 (no time soon) I'll get back out to the coast to do some fishing/birdwatching and get a little color.

Recently they pushed a firmware update to their newest routers without owner permission which locked owners out of the router's administration page.  You were instead forced to create a fucking account on some new web based service called "Cisco Connect Cloud."  If you don't sign up for this online service, which gives access to your router's administration page from anywhere in the world, you can not configure the router.  Furthermore, Cisco is using this new firmware to monitor what types of devices you have on your local network, the amount of bandwidth being used on your local network on an hourly basis, the websites you visit, and the names of media files residing on your local network.  CAN YOU FUCKING BELIEVE THIS?!?!?!  I'M FUCKING OUTRAGED BY THIS SHIT!!!!!!!!!!  FUCKING FUCK!!!!  Everyone needs to know about this and stop using Cisco/Linksys products of ANY variety.  They clearly have moved over to the dark side.  Oh, and attached below is the letter I just PHYSICALLY mailed to Cisco to express my outrage.  I recommend you read the letter since it has further information about Cisco's new Cloud Connect Terms of Service:


I was just listening to episode 360 of Steve Gibson’s "Security Now" podcast.  I just learned about your new routers which are known to spy on users and report various proprietary network information to Cisco/Linksys, such as bandwidth usage, domains visited, device types on my network, and most unfortunately of all, the names of media files residing on MY network. 

Furthermore, the Terms of Service pertaining to your new cloud management service state that Cisco may unilaterally shut down an account if it is found someone has used the service for “obscene, pornographic, or offensive purposes, to infringe another’s rights, including but not limited to any intellectual property rights, or… to violate, or encourage any conduct that would violate any applicable law or regulation or give rise to civil or criminal liability.”

The Terms of Service then continue, “we reserve the right to take such action as we (i) deem necessary or (ii) are otherwise required to take by a third party or court of competent jurisdiction, in each case in relation to your access or use or misuse of such content or data. Such action may include, without limitation, discontinuing your use of the Service immediately without prior notice to you, and without refund or compensation to you.”

I run an IT firm providing services for both business and residential customers. I own a website with thousands of active users.  I intend to make it my life’s mission to inform users of your policies.  I will NEVER AGAIN purchase a Cisco/Linksys product. You are officially dead to me.

I've done contract work for Cisco twice. It's a horrible culture of yes-men and people terrified they're going to lose their jobs. I hate this company. They're soulless. Sounds like one of the big corporations where I used to work.  I wasn't aware of anyone ever getting fired, sometimes I'd sit and wonder why everyone was so afraid.  Working there was just deadening, yet people were always saying how they loved the place.
