In a previous post I referred to a ridiculously left documentary about environmentalism and how we should all revert to hunter/gatherer s ... well in this doc a lefty thinking "rock star" environmentalist explained how awesome things used to be before civilization because women didn't ovulate regularly. well hippy ... here's a bit of biology that you seemed to have skipped. women don't ovulate when their body fat percentage is less than say ohhhhh 5%. translation: when women are starving they can't pregnant. how does "starvation" become a plus? what a bunch of fucking idiots

As I'm walking my dog last night, I find not one, but two baby birds.


I heard "bump bump bump" and two baby birds fell on the ground. One of them was chirping for mom. After ten minutes, momma didn't come. I scooped them up since we have some dastardly outdoor cats here. One of them is OK, and I just put her back outside. The other one has a broken wing. She's the smaller one. I put a makeshift brace and I'm taking her to the wildlife rehab. I hope they both fare well.

The strong one has been sitting on a branch for 24 hours now. He can't fly yet, but he has feathers and he's strong. I saw the mother come and feed him. The one with the brace is still with me. I'm feeding it with a syringe until tomorrow when I can take him to the rescue. I just came in from checking on the branch baby bird and I found another bird on the floor, dead with a bloody head. I think the mother picked a bad place to nest. All the babies have fallen out! How awful.

that's a shame!!  at least momma bird isn't just giving up on the lil guy that bailed and got touched by a human!! I hate seeing dead baby birds but each spring it's inevitable.  Good luck with the one you took in.  What are you feeding it??? Have you been liquefying insects or are you using good ol' similac?

I wish I had time to liquify insects! I'm feeding him baby bird formula. I basically make a paste with nutristart and feed with a tube attached to a syringe. I hate to do what I am doing because I am probably not giving him a fair chance to be in the wild. But with a broken wing, I'm too scared to leave him out. I put a brace on him that I am very proud of. The wing is totally immobile. The rescue is about an hour away, and tomorrow, I'm planning on going because I have a huge pocket of time.

Can't remember the last time I took a bird in.  Baby birds in my apt wouldn't fly so to speak.  Never took in babies before maybe teenagers.  I was prolly like 12.  Well hey ya know that bird wouldn't have had a fair chance in the wild with  his wing like that so I commend you for not leaving it out to die.  Cats can be very evil with prey... it's never quick and painless.

I love cats, but I hate outdoor cats. They hunt and kill senselessly. While they get food at home, they still hunt. I can't count how many dead birds I've found: doves, robins, sparrows..... it's one thing to hunt for food, but for fun?! NO good, especially during a time when these babies need their parents.

When I was growing up, I had a couple indoor cats that were "converted" to outdoor cats.  It was funny how, despite being declawed, they always managed to catch stuff and leave it on the doorstep.

I love cats, but I hate outdoor cats. They hunt and kill senselessly. While they get food at home, they still hunt. I can't count how many dead birds I've found: doves, robins, sparrows..... it's one thing to hunt for food, but for fun?! NO good, especially during a time when these babies need their parents.

Kitties are lil trophy killers that's where "look what the cat dragged in" came about.  It's just sad for the small animals they catch cause like frys girl said they don't need to hunt.  It's just an instinctual thing... I've often wondered how long I would last if one of my badasses was slightly bigger than me.

We have one that either "clicks" or "chatters" when she eyes something be it a fly or a mouse. Then when they bring it back she does it again after dropping it (she'd swallow the bug). A big "Look at Me !!!" moment.
