I have a solution.  Give him his own show on Saturday nights or even all weekend and just call it "The Ian Pundit's Show" or something else besides Coast to Coast AM.  He deserves it.  He has put in many years, and he is a good host.  He could do his own type of interviews on subjects, which are long interviews outside the mainstream, but they are not paranormal.

Well, I'm not sure what's left.  I never listen to Noory.  Knapp is awesome, but is never on, and I'm starting to get sick of Ian.  I never thought I would say that.  He has had some REALLY great shows.  I mean REALLY great.  His Smiley Face Killer Show was the first show in a long time to give me nightmares.
However, the last couple months he has been getting REALLY annoying.  Take for example his recent interview of an ex-neo Nazi.  This was one of the worst interviews I have ever heard.  Ian was all over the place from the beginning.  He had no logical plan for the interview.  There could have been a nice chronological flow to the show, but Ian (sad to say) kept pulling a "Noory" and forced the guest to stray all over the place.  From a guest that Bell or even Knapp could have made unforgettable, Ian made a program that flat-out bored me.
Also, his humor has always been a bit off, BUT it was at least sporadic.  During his interview with the Nazi, he had some REALLY ill-paced, flow-destructing jokes.  I mean, you are interviewing an ex-Neo Nazi! Keep the jokes to a minimum.  Also, what's up with him cutting the guy off to inform him that the college he went to in Indiana has since changed its name?  Wow, Ian you are soooo bright.  I mean, even the guest sounded like.....ummm, o.k.?
All I am saying is this:  Noory is horrible, Ian is getting progressively worse, and they never put Knapp on: if something doesn't change, this show is going to have no listeners.  Art needs to step in (even though he has no say) and get Knapp to be the main host.

   They did that already.

i like he that he call out guests and callers on their bullshit when they are being ridiculous. but last night ian continuously interrupted the guest everytime he was saying something interesting.  "id-..id-...hold on... id.. if i could... i find it intresting that..." then make an off topic comment.  Ian doesn't like to let the guest tell the story. He will ask a question then end up answering it himself. i had to stop listening to him last week with the ex-neo nazi, i was getting really frustrated with him stopping the guest to " if i could bring up another point" or "uh.. id.. if i could jump ahead to the part of your book".  often he likes to act like he is smarter than his guests and more knowledgeable about the topic than they are.
as far as Norry, hes a good guy but way too nice and gullable.

and he likes to lick on Richard c. Hoagland and Jim Berkland's left testicle.

Yes something like that as I recall.  Actually, I think Art left again opening up the late night position for Ian.  To be  more clear Ian's show was on Saturday evening and called 'Coast to Coast Live' while Art was doing Saturday night 'Coast to Coast'

Also, where does this notion come from that Coast to Coast must be a paranormal topics show?  Art Bell throughout the years did many subjects that were not paranormal.  Ian only hosts once a week anyway.

old thread and I'm new here. thought I'd introduce myself. Hi!

Run across this thread browsing the internet and thought maybe I'd put my two cents in. Love C2C.

Really dont like Ian punnit anymore. He will shut up guests who have a differing viewpoint than him like he recently did with John Perkins the Economic hitman. Hey you may not agree with him but you dont censor him. This is C2C. The last bastion of freedom of opinion so long as it isnt presenting a clear and present danger.

That and other things he's done really made me lose all respect for him. He's annoying.

George Knapp is good.

Yeah, I'm off the Ian love train too, and I once was a big fan. I get that he has an allergic reaction to on-topic shows, but he has an allergic reaction to dissenting opinions too. He also talks way more than the guests, turning questions into speeches. It's a bit rude.

There's no doubt about it, and he takes on this professorial intellectual conversational tone when he does it. That's fine in small doses, but it's like he wants to make sure that we know that he's quite educated.

Yup...This is one of the main issues I have with Ian. He's been cracking his lame jokes FAR too often for awhile now
It turns the show into more of a joke than Noory has made it.

Someone out there needs to start a new Art Bell type of show again. C2C is beyond saving. I have hardly listened to any shows in the past year.

Knapp IS the only logical choice given the current cast we have to choose from, but he isn't leaving his day job anytime soon--unfortunately.

KnyeGuy

Yeah Supernormal, Ian DOES carry on too far with questions, even going so far as to actually 'answer' them himself---WTF???

Between that and his lame jokes I can't even listen to the weekend shows anymore.

Neil DeGrasse Tyson, director of the Hayden Planetarium.  Reminded me of that Sir Charles guy.  A very sedate, intelligent, conversation.  I remember going to the planetarium when I was a kid.  I think I saw a pink floyd show there.

Ian has the most annoying stutter when trying to begin sentences... it's not like a normal amount, which wouldn't bother me, but I'd say ~50% of his total syllables are "uh, so, [indistinct guttural sound], ..."

He's better than George Noory (who wouldn't be) when he's saying actual words, but his inarticulate stuttering ruins it for me. I'd rather listen to Snoory.

Not to mention Ian is maddeningly redundant, he'll ask a question of the guest and then before the guest can answer, repeat the same question three more times, phrased a little differently. Or he'll set up his question so it's obvious what he's asking, he telegraphs it but will ramble for five more minutes getting the question out, getting it phrased the exact way he wants it, after many starts and stops.

Does Ian have a speech disorder in his background? Seriously. Because I can't think of another explanation.

Wow!  Finally, after all these years, someone identifies and agrees with me on my problem with Ian Punnett that I identified on day one.  He has a speech disability problem.  All the stammering and stuttering drives me nuts.  If it is a real disability that he would own up to, I could give him space and even commend him for trying.  Otherwise, I can't stand it.  It is sort of a--um--real disability for a talk-show show host.

He's got this way of prefacing and qualifying questions that's hard to describe, but it runs out the clock. It's a bit like, "let me take some verbal jumper cables to the discussion car and take control of the conversational wheel to challenge you on something I have a problem with, so I'll steer the conversation into a somewhat unexpected cul-de-sac, hopefully not bumping into any mea-culpa potholes along the way, but, no, I can't let you get away with blah, blah, blah". My stream of consciousness example doesn't do it justic, but that's what I meant by his attempted intellectual tone. "No, I totally get that" (then say "right" in a nasal tone after each word from the guest and make sure to deeply inhale through your teeth after each station break).

KnyeGuy

I just HAVE to toss into the mix that his closing song and that Latin phrase about god loving you and I do too, are really lame additions to the program...Lame but oh so 'Ian.'

I would honestly almost rather listen to Noory than Ian at this point. I can't take anymore lame cheesy humor and longwinded semantics.

Supernormal

He just gave an honest and sincere tribute to Glenn Kimball. You could tell that it was from the heart. I'm not always a fan of his show topics, but I like the man as a person. I just have to separate the good individual from his bad decisions.

I wasn't crazy about the "tribute" last night. Noory played a repeat of a Glenn Kimball segment during the last half hour of the show. How does that differ from other Friday nights? All or most of the show should have been dedicated to the late guest.

I'm likely going to complain about something that Ian does or says in the future. However, I've come to the conclusion that he's genuine. I don't think that there's a fake bone in his body. Another host sounds like he has an entire prefabricated skeleton. YMMV

Supernormal

I've had a change of heart to a certain extent. The man has great conversational skills, the opposite of Bad George. I don't need to tell anybody here how vital that is to the success of a talk show, and Ian brings articulate and intelligent conversations to the table. I'll put him back in the group of hosts that I like, which is all of them except one.

Agreed.

Although not a sports fan I enjoyed Brian Huohy discussing how the "fix is in".  Tomorrow Ian plans to talk about oil, specifically wheather we're running out of it, or is there plenty to be had?  He will have two guest covering both sides, and I'm trying to remember the last time c2c covered a topic where both views were presented on the same night.
Nope.  Can't recall such a thing.  Spiralling downward?  Resignation?  I don't think so.

Supernormal

Maybe I spoke too soon. LOL I love true crime shows with guests like Carlo and Ramsland. Ian won't shut up long enough to let the guest talk as long as she should, and he pontificates on the deeper, hidden meanings of movie monsters, cutting into time that would be better spent talking about *real* monsters. I'll cut him some slack since he didn't mention comic books.

...but the man actually takes his duties seriously.  He does have weak jokes, but that is because he is from the MidWest, not because he is Ian.  George Noory has done more to destroy Coast To Coast AM than I would have ever imagined.  The sad part is, I don't think the show could ever go back to unscreened calls after him.  The goodwill of the listeners has been ruined to the point that any host will need to have a call screener.  Art got pranked (and still does), but at least people believed he cared.  Ian and Knapp are so much closer to Art than Noory could ever hope to be.  The man actually said (on the nightline interview) that Leprechans and the possibility of a shadow government are on the same level.  One is a cute joke, the other one (as shown by history) could quite possibly be a fact that we need to know about.

Well, I could honestly put up with Ian as a weekend host if Art were on full time. I think ALOT of my grievances with Ian have become magnified due to the trainwreck that Noory calls a show. Overall malaise with this trainwreck has probably caused me to become hyper-critical toward anything/anyone related to it.

Saturday night's show sounds like another bore. Ian's first guest, who was on last week, will discuss the bad call in our World Cup game against Slovenia. His main guest will discuss the ecosystem and the oil spill. When was the last time that Ian did a full show on a paranormal subject? I wish that our local station would replace his disappointing and dull programs with "Somewhere In Time". On the next episode, Art's guest claims that she had sexual encounters with a reptilian alien. Sure, it sounds crazy. It beats monotony, though.

Oh geeeze pleeeze.  Ian can't even SPELL "paranormal".

Don't pilots say any landing that you can walk away from is a good landing?  Maybe that is true about sex, too.

valdez

The moment an opportunity presents itself for Ian to do a show on the paranormal from different angle, or involving fresh information, or where the guest sound somewhat believable, or where maybe somebody bothered to bring something to the table beyond a blurry picture, Ian will take it.  How quickly we forget "the horse guy". or the now historic channelling of Micheal Jackson, or the Mongolian Death Worm.  Paranormal?  You bet.  Same old recycled crap?  Not on Ian's watch.

I agree Valdez.  Besides, I'd rather listen to someone (anyone doing an interview) talking with a guest about something that engages them.

Close - It was a result of the last "retirement" that Art did.  He had been doing Saturdays.  They wanted a live host in the regular spot on Saturday, and so replaced Ian's earlier show with "Somewhere in Time" and now Saturday night (if you listen) in the regular time slot is "Cost to Coast AM with Ian Punnett"  So yes, that slot is his - or as much "his" as the producers allow.

I gotta draw the line at the Creature from the Black Lagoon. That fish smell is a deal-breaker too.

That may very well be true. Still, I can't help but think that Ian is averse to the paranormal, although his show with Linda Godfrey (ages ago) was great. OTOH, Michael Jackson's ghost and kinky robot sex ? Not on my watch. ;-)

I think the "fix" has always been in--across the board, at least since money became involved.  I remember when I was just a little kid and wrestling was the Really Big Deal.  It was just a bunch of baloney and I don't think anything much has changed in the sports world in any of the fields since then.  And I couldn't care less.  For me, it is "ho hum stuff" and another way for the PTB to get rich.  Yeah, I guess I am un-American.  I hunger for reality--when no multi-million dollars are involved and all of the games, etc., are really on the up and up. Superbowl commercials are fun, however.  This is my all-time fave:
