Pence, I thought, did a good job of shaking his head and looking like Kaine was crazy every time Kaine accurately quoted Trump -- as if Kaine made it all up. The denial approach should work with any undecideds who don't want to take Trump's problems seriously and prefer to ignore them.

How many people play these kinds of mental games with themselves? Way too many. That, I think, is the main underlying problem with this election, more so than the candidates running.

Pence also seemed to be saying that quoting Trump's insults was an example of Kaine's insulting approach.

Yeah, I ended up masterbaiting over her corpse. Overall a successful Tuesday night.

At least my pizza rolls is done.

It's always pizza rolls. You're not really one for horizon expansion, are you?  ???

Wait! Did they combine Noory DNA with the DNA of the alien from Alien?!  :o

Pence clearly won.  Too bad it is not him running against Hillary for the top spot. I'd feel a hell of a lot better about this election if such was the case.

Yeah, I hear that.  But then again most of the other Republican candidates would've likely wilted under the sustained media attack that Trump has faced, whereas Donald seems to thrive on it.  Especially low energy little Jebbie!

Insiders: Trump will sink Pence in VP debate

QuoteVirtually all Democratic insiders surveyed last week, 97 percent, expect Kaine to get the better of Pence at Longwood University. In comparison, fewer than three-quarters of Republicans, 74 percent, think Pence will win.

“Pence will have to defend Trump and his year-plus of inflammatory comments,” said a New Hampshire Republican, who, like all insiders, completed the survey anonymously. “Kaine won't.”

“Kaine in a blowout,” an Iowa Republican predicted. “He has a personality. Pence does not. His attempts to explain Trump are among the most tortured I've ever seen. … Pence goes about it with all the passion of a dead fish skittering along the concrete at [Seattle’s Pike Place] Market.”

That's just another example of the Alice-In-Wonderland view of the world that is spreading as the inmates take over more and more of the asylum. Up and down, left and right are whatever the inmates say they are. The tyranny of idiocy.

My wife said Hillary won the first debate and I had to reluctantly agree with her.  We are both Republicans.  She is more conservative than I am by a long shot.

It was virtually impossible to say otherwise with Hillary Clinton.  I think commenting on a debate winner on the night via style points or however is silly.  Pence may have been smoother (I personally found him very patronizing and he contradicted himself a number of times) and Kaine did interrupt to the point of being a little obnoxious especially early on, but my guess is the takeaway from this, as was one of the takeaways from the Republican Convention, was that Pence was freelancing.

On a number of issues on foreign policy, where Pence was claiming he was defending Trump, Pence's positions and Trump's positions (to the degree that Trump can be said to have genuine positions) were completely at odds.  That was the case with nuclear weapon proliferation, with Putin and Russia and with Syria.

As Paul Begala said something like on CNN "Pence probably won the debate...for himself.  He was campaigning for the Republican nomination in 2020 and not campaigning as Trump's 2016 Vice Presidential nominee."

I absolutely was! I can't say I agree with Pence or Trump on everything but when rampant top level corruption has been exposed and there's a candidate saying he'll clean that up and try to make us a better country again I think you have to roll the dice on the off chance that they're legit. I fully expect to be let down but I hope not again this time. That's as honest as I can be about my thinking on this.

Pence was smart to punt instead of defending Trump. This was good for Pence's career but didn't help Trump much. Don't think that Trump didn't notice this, either. Pence must be banking on Trump losing.
