Explosion occurred during what was apparently a static firing test prior to a Saturday launch.  Not an expert by any means, but from what I know liquid fueled rockets can be tricky.

I saw it pop-up on Drudge this morning, UD.  Boom! It certainly got some attention on the Space Coast.  Fortunately, no injuries but Elon and NASA can't be happy.

For a good while now I've been saying that I want to see Elon's horoscope. There's got to be a lot of fire signs and aspects in his chart. If I had money to put in the stock market, it would never be in any of his companies. Between SpaceEx and Tesla, all his stuff is always blowing up and catching on fire. Cool stuff but like hypersensitive traveling bombs.

At first, I was very concerned because we have a launch going off very soon and feared it was another SpaceEx disaster. They just finished rebuilding the launch pad from the last time they blew that thing up.

A nice case where we can see the meaning of the word shift over time.  It's completely appropriate here in the strict definition but has become so tinged with woo (at least in this crowd) that they should've picked another one.

Isn't there some hurricane going on there? Sort of surprised me they would still be testing an engine out for a launch soon. Would've figured schedule would be delayed until after storm.

I worked with a company in the UK that refused to use the term "failure" in its test reports.  They had either "success", "limited success", or "no test".  When they declared a "limited success", there was always an "anomaly review/discussion" portion of the report.  They apparently didn't believe me when I told them any report claiming a "limited success" would be returned unread and count as a "noncompliant" data item submission.  After they got the contract letter informing them this would impact progress payments, things changed.

Yes, there's a hurricane coming up the gulf into the panhandle and winding over Florida towards the Atlantic. From there, it will head northward as a nor'easter but will stay mostly out on the ocean. That's all assuming it moves as expected.

Apparently they wanted to turn the Dark Continent's residents into social media zombies. I think they tried to something similar in India a few years back but got a bit rebuffed. I think the 'charity' deal was we will provide some form of internet connections for remote/poor regions but run through Facebook portal.

Oh, man. One of many reasons when I used it, I used a fake name. I know, I know. They sternly state that you must use your real name or they will delete your account. Okay. So what? Delete it. I don't care. They never did. (Forgot my password though and can't get back in to delete it myself.) Never gave them my phone number or posted any photos of myself. Also claimed to be located in a completely different location than I actually was. They seemed to fall for it because I would always get friend requests from that area.

The odds would say a bird.  The Cape is filled with tons of wildlife, including the winged-type.

The Canaveral seashore is part of the National Park Service and Merritt Island is a National Wildlife Reserve.
