Have a look at this:
- both the eyewitnesses had seen a (black) man with exactly the same clothing at the murder-scene, even standing close to the body during the shooting itself...
- his head and hands were bleeding
- he had thrown his cap and coat into the river
- he had jumped into the river, so he was all soaking wet
- he first lied to the police that he had been fishing, while his fishing-equipment was still at his house
- his fly was open, at first he claimed that 'the police did that'..
- when he passed Mary's body after the arrest, he said: "It looks like you got a stacked deck', and he started to cry..
