I love Pollock!!! So simple but yet so complex at the same time and for me you can feel the frenetic energy of his mind and struggles within. I am such a fan that I even liked the movie about him with Ed Harris I think if your not a fan it will probably suck though.

Monet has a similar period that is more of a dappling technique where close up that is what you see the dapples (not sure of the correct term).

I think most people and kids can do similar works it is like finger painting, some of the best art I ever saw has come from the mind of a child who has no constraints of society or culture yet and they just create what IS to them.

Sorry for the rant, thanks for the site it is fun and I am going to pass it along to a few teacher friends in hopes that they can use it with the kids.

I took my cousin to see the Pollock we have in DC at the National Gallery. She's an AP art history student and she was appalled. I told her, yes, it is bad, if you only consider the uh classical/neo-classical standards. But with Pollock I think you really have to sit and sit and sit and be much more careful. I still don't "get it" entirely, but I've opened up a little.

I LOVE Monet. He is absolutely wonderful. I surround myself with his paintings because they are the only things I have other than pics that are cheery. Thank goodness for him. I love Carravaggio, but if I hang up those posters, I'm afraid I'll be suicidal.

The thing with Pollock is that he removed the constraints of how to paint on a canvas, he painted beyond the edges, painted on things other than canvas, painted with it on the floor getting a whole different effect because of the physics of it, painted huge ones of 10' and larger, he def thought outside of the box. If you look deep like you said in all of his chaos you will find structure. I like it because it looks like I anyone could do it but it is very difficult to have that much control really.

This reminds me of Georges-Pierre Seurat  -- and his style was called Neo-Impressionism -- but - I keep thinking of a word like "pointillism"

I know that's not quite right, do you know what I'm referring to?

That is pointillism! Thank you I could not remember it even if I was Water boarded buy Bush and his cronies.
