Taco Bell

And to think I was going to skip tonight's load of hogwash.

I just ate TWO Klondike bars.  I'm a glutton.
"What would you do for a Klondike bar" special open-lines. And any stories from bars in the Klondike special line.

All right!  Klondike bars!

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't listen to Ms. Wade for one.

I like it.  My call would start out with "a Twister game, three Welsh lesbian midgets, a whole salami, and assorted multi color Sharpies..."

Listened last night till five minutes' worth made it clear that it wasn't the original Titor's voice or delivery.  Was just going to let this one sit in the archives till she posted to her FB about "attacks" from callers.  I'm just shocked that others--from the top on down--are continually shocked themselves that you can't assume the mantle of a great talent and coast along forever on the goodwill and loyalty someone else built over decades of work.  More than three months after the show's initial implosion--which is all just old news now--nobody can claim this didn't have a fair shot.  You can't force loyalty, passion, esteem, respect, or a following... you simply can't.  The open market is a brutal place, especially in the arts, and good people ARE overlooked, forgotten, ignored in their time, etc. etc.  But by and large, if you're cream, you rise--often with a LOT less opportunity than this host has been given by Art's fan base and those who wanted to give her more than a fair chance.  I'd imagine she's in a rough emotional place over all this--and I feel for that, I guess--but hostility toward the audience at large, and an entitled air regarding their continued tolerance and charity, is not helping here.  Things seemed to plateau for a while--but it feels like they're in a spiraling decline, again.  I guess we'll see.

Agree with everything except the John Titor's voice bit......I have to say that I don't remember ever hearing JT on the radio. Please correct me and maybe give a link if I am wrong on this.

Dear "Heather Wade" (aka Real-Deal),
After hearing you tell "John Titor" that you ran a caller-driven INTERACTIVE show,
one only wonders why you want to shut down any input from your audience tonight ?

Dyna-X

I'm not sure that holding back on the callers with tough questions is going to help. Its like holding back flood waters. Next thing you know folks will be calling in with Noory soundboards, animal noises, swearing and deliberately long made up bad stories in phony accents.

Eventually her phone lines will hardly have any calls and she will pad with "look at those phone lines, they're smoking!" and she will talk to wolfman for 20 minutes to make it to the next break.  This could get grim.

Shouldn't "vocal fry" be the free space ? That's a default setting.....

I don't notice much vocal fry--maybe I'm not paying attention. Usually I notice more pronounced vocal fry on various NPR talkers.

John Titor was my guest, and he was attacked by callers for nothing more than telling his story last night. I want to have him back on and will not tolerate my guests being treated that way.

Wow. The best part of her hosting skills were when she dumped him.

You're too busy fighting with anyone who criticizes her to notice anything. Bum crumb muncher.

So did this come from 4chan? I never go over there anymore with so many of them bringing the magic to BellGab. Looks like a pretty easy Wade-O.

No, not fighting, not any more than you Noory.

=Schlyder=

This will get ugly.  She has basically just called out the internet hate machine and asked if it wants to play. LOL

Just don't get "Heather Wade".
Am only posting a bunch tonight because of her flim-flammery.
It's not right to do a 180 on your guest, and then onto your listeners.
Hell, if you're gonna do an "Art Bell" just quit already.
(And I don't remember AB ever flipping like that. He may be an ass, but he was an entertaining ass).
FFS, Heather: Pick a side, and have the backbone to defend it.

Why is it so hard for you to just follow the rules? She clearly said she will not tolerate you people giving her guest a hard time.  >:(

Actually--my apologies--I was thinking of a call Art took probably 15 years ago that was quite fascinating--it is absolutely not John Titor, nor did the guy claim to be.  I dug up the clip--I'm just wrong, on that count.  He was a neat caller, and the call went on a good long while, but I guess Titor never DID call in, even years ago.  I suppose all there ever was, then, was the written communication... message boards and all that stuff.  So how the hell would she even vet him, to decide whether he ought to be a guest??  hahaha  There's nothing to compare the guy to--no voice, nothing.  Outside her "secret questions," or whatever.  Can't imagine what only he and she would know, that couldn't be Googled, that got him green-lit for MITD.

This is going to be interesting. She's been relying on the phone lines to carry the show when she runs out of questions for the guest. Taking calls early in the show wasn't a creative choice, obviously.

Will Art save her from open lines tomorrow?

With all of the John Titor posts online, either one of us could've passed that test !

Probably not.  However if he did, he would get 14 calls begging him to come back every day.

I mean, listening to it tonight, it's like... man, you KNEW you were going to be on the show.  There are some BASIC questions you'd think you'd expect, and do your homework for, so you'd sound good.  Why didn't your predictions come to pass?  What are your favorite travels in time?  What dangerous assignments have you undertaken?  Have you ever almost been discovered in our timeline?  Are you in danger right now?

A good lie--a good story--is in its specifics.  So if you're gonna bullshit--know your bullshit.  At least then, you're a good story.

My favorite Art Bell shows were never the ones I absolutely believed--cause that's just rare to impossible.  They were the interviews that made me think, "Holy shit... I'm actually SLIGHTLY doubting what I think I know."  That's magic.  I don't want to be convinced... I just want that tiny seed of doubt.  That's the gift of a good storyteller, a good bullshitter.  Bullshit is fine--but make it FUN BULLSHIT.

Rules?
No swearing and one call per show.

What's considered  "giving her guest a hard time"?
Asking valid questions?

Now we're "you people"?

JesusJuice

Interesting guest and topic so far tonight. Heather is getting better by the day.
