Actually Niven did have a species of tree in the Known Space books that a long-dead alien race had bioengineered to be used as rockets.

Isn't Niven science fiction?  Sanderson was a non-fiction guy, I think he was biolgist by profession who talked about UFOs being living creatures.

Hate watching (or listening) is not a phenomena unique to this program. It's become fairly ubiquitous. Why?

1) When people feel that the quality of content they're consuming has gone down, they can't help but juxtapose that with the previous content they deemed good.

2) There's a perverse need to see how bad (in their opinion) it will get.

I watched all of "True Detective" season two, and it was a complete train wreck. But the first season was so good that I just marveled at how quickly it went downhill and had to see it through.

I'm not saying this logic applies to the haters here, but it could. Everyone has their own coping mechanisms.

Yeah I sure agree with you about season 2. Laughably bad. Same writer from Season 1 too.

It depends on the night actually. There are a couple of nights I tried to get through and gave up after 6 or 7 times on Skype. The two times I got through, I was able to get right on.
