Thanks BnW. I was surprised that I got right in. That made me neevous. Hope I didn't sound too much like a maroon.

You totally did NOT sound like a maroon.  You did better than I'm sure I would have. It was tempting to stay up late to call in. :P

Who said I was happy?? ..I just said I enjoyed her show from last night!  :)  :P

I have only listened to her first 2 show and then last night's prediction show, so like you to be fair, I really don't know if if she is getting better, more comfortable etc. I truly did not like the first 2 programs I listened to.

I may give a couple of her shows a listen from the TT archives, however I will still probably cancel my TT subscription at the end of Jan...that is if DMDN is still around by then  ;)

Alright you maggots... Freyja is MY friend. Anybody else that accuses her of being happy is going to have to answer to me!

Okay Shreeded Wheat or whoever you are; I never said I was a pimp for Kathy or Impetuous bitchy Laura or whoever she is. I always clean below my FAT pad so don't belive Gerry if he says otherwise, so STFU okay?

Video later when Freyja will be praised because she hasn't hated me yet. Free Noory, and William Shatner. STFU.

thought being happy around these parts was illegal or something lol

Now I don't claim to know everything, but I'm pretty sure Feyja hasn't been "happy" in a while...

Not exactly; but the last time there was an outbreak of moral, it was ages until it was sorted.

I'm not sure she took long to catch on, but just to react.  You can field a prank call, realize it immediately, but still need a while thinking on the fly about how to handle that particular one.

In some on-air settings (not this one, though), the phoner-in has such an advantage that once they succeed in getting on the air, there is no graceful way out for the m.c.  The host may be fully aware that the caller is trolling, but treating it as anything but a serious inquiry makes you & the organiz'n look at least as bad as just going w the flow & playing dumb does.  Before Howard Stern got Stuttering John, he used to have to do his own stuttering act.  I caught him once phoning in anonymously to a political talk host on WMCA to stutter, and I'm sure the host knew it was an act, yet if he'd treated it as one, some segment of the audience might've thought he was mean to an actual stutterer, others would think what idiots they must have for such a call to pass the screen, and in general he was trapped.  I don't know if Stern wound up using the audio for his own show -- copyright issues, maybe -- so I might've been one of very few people to recognize him as Stern.

In school, both in Theater Arts & Speech class, we practiced dealing w hecklers.  But that's relatively easy, because vs. a heckler you already start w most of the audience on your side.  On radio w a phoner-in, different situation, much harder to come out sounding good or even to avoid sounding bad.

Did Art come on last night?

Nope.  He's done with the whole broadcasting affair.   He quit the show.  He quit (redacted)gab.com  He quit social media, sort of, except to post pictures.
Nope, we've wound him down folks, we've wound him down.

Oh wait.  NO we didn't.  It was the shit talking trolls who did that.

If you really believe that Bell isn't going to return to "guest host" I have a bridge to sell you.

Of course he will come back like a moth to the light there is no way that he can quit cold turkey.

After a few more times of "quitting for good" he will be too old to return and have burned too many bridges behind him.

Bell's legacy will not be his great radio career in the nineties and early 2000's but his on air off air actions.

Meh.  Maybe, maybe not.  If he comes back, maybe I'll be there to listen.  For the past two years this was an anticipated event, much like waiting for a movie that you are jonesing for, now, ART has taken the shine fm the BELL that I used to listen for.

I listened to the MITD Prediction Show and think Heather did a fine job. Sure, not as good as Art (or Ian) did in the past but for a first timer? And it was much better than Norry's which I also listened too and he has had 13 years (+/-) experience, as he proclaimed many times, on the air. I know that NOrry bar is a low one but still for a rookie to beat a major player? Good job.

It's a total fluke that Noory gets to stay a major player.  And the predictions show is not a sensitive test.

Going on-mic to field calls about predictions for the next year, or the like, is easy.  I posted a link to a show from a few mos. ago wherein the stn. mgr. of WFMU, as a stunt on their stunt-of-the-week 1 hr. comedy show, "7 Sec. Delay", had 2 temps from a temp agency, w no advance prep, take over the phone-in show on-mic.  They did have a call screener (the usual co-host, comedian Andy Breckman; I did my part by dialing in just to give the screener a hard time as the usual call screener taught him the ropes), as does Noory, and Ms. Wade does not, so she had to take the "you suck" call (And sounded like she was starting to charm him!).  However, these 2 temps did such a good impromptu job (aside from such flubs as IDing as WFAN), commenters called them "naturals".  Just about anybody who's listened to a little phone-in radio talk can do a creditable job of that part.  In the case of the predictions show, there weren't even predictions from a yr. earlier to score.

The hard part is interviews, or in the absence of an interview, discussion or debate of an issue w phoners-in.  You need to prep for those things, actually have some interest in the subject matter, and pay att'n.  Noory does none of those things.  Heather is sincerely interested in what she's doing, and that alone puts her far ahead of Noory, but just about everyone in the biz is far ahead of Noory.

The other hard part is the producer's job, and now that Heather's no longer the producer, I'd like to know who is.  I hope it's Art, to help keep up the quality.

She really had fun with it and handled the troll callers well. Normally I don't care for prediction shows but this one was very entertaining.

Hopefully it's someone with something new to say. Haven't had that since the whole Bigfoot DNA testing debacle.
