Carl replied to a question on her Facebook about how they're able to use bumper music by saying "a license has been purchased."

I've been searching and cannot for the life of me find this magical license that would clear the hit songs she wants to play. Seems like they'd have to contact each publishing company independently. I'm very curious.

I was curious, too, and all I could find was something to do with needing a Mechanical (?) License. It's very complicated, apparently. So much so that there are different licences for music and music when there's voice over it.

Legacy and Carl are basically trying to tell us that they have the same licence Spotify needs, which would cost a fortune. Hehe

I wonder if Keith is afraid of clowns?

Don't know if he's afraid of clowns per se, but he sure hates clowns that don't show up for work. They have to go

And yet he had enough talent for Keith to recruit him to DMDN...

Go figure.

Oh, that's nothing: Keith carried Hoagland for nearly a year.  That's how we know Keith is a very patient man, indeed.  :)

Hoagland is so talented he ended up on BlogTalk.  Did he ever learn how to switch his microphone on?

Not only that, but do either of them seem like they can afford that shit?

For example, there's a company called Soundexchange that handles mechanical licensing for live broadcasts, but state on their site:

QuoteIf you are offering podcasts that include sound recordings, then you may need to obtain a direct license from the relevant copyright owners. SoundExchange does not administer licenses for podcasting.

Contacting each agency/ record company individually and brokering deals would be a major headache and, as you stated, quite costly.

I'll be listening to the first show.  Won't be calling in- but I don't think that I will be able to avoid it.  It would be like having two trains collide in your back yard and making an attempt not to look out the back window....

I can't help it, I'm curious too, and I'll check it out for as long as I can take it.  Her last two appearances, both in form and content, were so surreal that I just can't turn away quite yet.  Anyway I'll probably bail after the fifth caller has babbled on about her being the One True Legacy which of course no one is.

Cowkiller

For those of you who have never heard hesters, i mean heaters show, one of the regulars is that paul guy and he has got to be one of the most boring as fuck callers.  So much so i just turn the show off.
Whats crazy tho is how paul and ellas' e-mails are effing gold.  Maybe heather should just have paul and ella wormhole her instead?

Here's the simple answer: if it could be done, wouldn't Coast to Coast do it? Premiere has the money to pay for podcasting licensed music. But they don't. Because it's probably way too cost prohibitive...and it doesn't matter. Does 30 seconds of a song matter all that much to listeners? No. She's just stuck in the mindset of completely mimicking Art.

It'd be nice if we found a way to listen without boosting the numbers. Although, the listener drop between Monday and Friday is going to be quite the doozy.

So either there will be flagrant copyright law violations or a "boo hoo ASCAP is trying to shut down my show" apology.

I found this interesting article while I was researching music and TV for a breakfast restaurant I was designing:

I was going to use OTA broadcasts to avoid the license, which you can do up to a certain amount of TV's and speakers per room/business.

9 cents per download for every song she plays. Even if she has her license ducks in a row it would cost her around $20 a month to collect your $4.99.

I don't think even art offered that. Im starting to think this is a huge scam as she quite possibly knows how bad she is and has no intention of going ahead with it.

Oh, I think I know what he's referring to...  Let's just say that trolls close to the loser and the loser herself are active on this board  I'll let them do their own homework. As seen with Joe Methhead's interview, that they've been dotting the "i"s that we've been pointing out and scripting excuses drawn from our observations, etc.

$5 a month per person doesn't come near the music expenses...

Carl seems to be vulture-esque himself...  Helping the girl who won't deny having an affair with his brother-in-law. What's he getting out of this?  I wouldn't want my worst enemy to be in Airyn's situation right now.  Too many fucked up personalities floating in her transom.

I'm actually really hoping she plays the music. This entire episode has yet to reach its crescendo and I will be right here when it does, loving every minute of it. There is so much more to come. How long before even M Vara has had enough and boots her off his network.

Sooo if I interpret this correctly, Carl the guy that introduced Art to Airyn and is married to Airyn‘s sister ie. Airyn Bell’s brother-in-law is Heather Wade’s web designer? I’d assume that means Heather has Airyn’s blessing in all of this and maybe a financial stake. This is an interesting factoid.

And here is Carl, Art and Airyn’s brother-n-law, interjecting on the legal matter of HW including bumper music in her podcast downloads.

And Carl again speaking up on the matter of KNYE carrying MiTD w/ HW

I find this all very interesting. Is Heather’s position of carrying on Art’s legacy based on the fact that his family has not only given their blessing but is actually involved with the enterprise?

I'm in the business myself and licensing to play music in restaurants  is as complicated as it is for anything else. We paid one association and another tried to get money too. I've told them to fuck of almost as often as the Indian guys who call claiming to be google with promises of making us the first search result.

No, it’s based on her own self perception.

Thanks. I was going to bring that up as well.  Yeah- it's fun when done live.  But if I want to listen to music I don't tune into a talk show.  It's a very small bonus.  Is having the bumpers included really going to be a huge draw to subscribers?

It's a very nasty side of that business, as the article claims. Also, they pay commissions to people for turning in businesses for "non-compliance". Creepy.

I was researching as I wanted to play two local Tucson stations (low watt) that do not have commercials...only music 24 hours a day..old classic rock and deep cuts. I love them, and they are very popular in the localized area where you can receive their signals. They would be perfect to play in a bar/restaurant.

I'm sure she will. And I'll bet they have a mechanical license to broadcast it. It's the downloadable podcast version that intrigues me.

Happy Mothers Day WhiteTroll!  I loved the George Harrison vid you posted.

I checked with a friend who produces a very successful podcast. After talking with him, I think she's under the mistaken notion that if the radio network has an ASCAP and BMI license (or more likely Soundexchange) to stream the music, she probably thinks that allows her to include it in podcast. Or, as mentioned above, she is lying about it and scamming the subscribers.

To some people, yes. I've seen multiple posts saying they may listen to Heater for the bumper music. It's clear these types of listeners don't care about quality content - they care about hearing 15 seconds of Dancing Queen.

HW is taking Keith's potential litigation seriously, seen here meeting with her lawyers  :o

I'm sure I am not alone when I say: If I see that same wretched head shot one more time, I am going to kidnap Paul and Ella and shove them into that volcano that keeps giving the Americans so much trouble.

(At this point, it's only fair.)

Why Heather refuses to get a new photo for her new website is beyond me.  I have never seen anyone get so much mileage from a single photograph.  Crickey!  Take another picture already.
