That weakness is an ARTifact of having a weak host. Art could interview a turkey sandwich and we would happily listen. You have to be able to enjoy the host as at least half the entertainment or you have to always have guests good enough to keep the ears tuned in. Another thought: Karen keeps insisting that the sheriff's office didn't call Airyn OR herself (Karen). I get calling Airyn, being family. And I know Karen is a close friend, but I can't imagine most sheriff's offices would call a "close friend running the local radio station" in an instance like this. That is, unless Art specifically listed her as some kind of emergency contact.

Apparently Karen called the sheriff's office and asked them to take down their death announcement and they would not. Again, she's not family, so I mean why would they? Just a thought.

Oh damn, this current caller is telling Karen she's causing drama and a negative view of the sheriff's office in the community by continuing to push this. He says they need to find out why the sheriff did this and that they (the sheriff) may have had a good reason/motivation for it. Karen does not like this. He told her to "slow down, be good Christians, and find out what's going on" rather than continue bitching (I'm paraphrasing). He said "we're not finding a solution, we're just blaming and creating drama on the radio."

Karen is pissed that the sheriff's office posted their defense for announcing the death in the newspaper. She says she's fixing it by "correcting all the things in the newspaper articles that are absolutely lies."

Karen is having none of this.

Veery well said and Art has been doing radio since high school. He was a successful rock DJ for more than 20 years at stations all across the country.  Same with Rush Limbaugh.  They have burning passion for radio as a communication medium.

But the greats like that didn't all start in radio.  Some of them came from other fields where they had to talk a lot: professors, entertainers, salespeople; they strode right into radio w/o missing a beat.

I never got that impression from HW.

Of course not.

But I don't get that impression from the regulars on the other very entertaining programs on DMDN.  The difference is that in most cases they aren't 1-on-1 w interviewees or phoners-in, or even just plain in 1.  Who says the late night program has to have that format?
