May I ask approximately where "here" is? I'm surprised as much as our pal Alex encourages it (even though he always notes not to interfere with licensed stations) that his rebroadcaster didn't appeal to him for some help, or at least free publicity. That's one of the advantages of living in a more rural area/smaller town is you're less messed with in regards to that and many other things. And if I ever had anything as bad as Joe go out on my micro FM, if I had one... which I don't... but if I did, I would smash the transmitter to bits. There have been fuck ups (if I did), but never Joe caliber bad. You try to match the quality of a commercial station and deliver the best product you can, or what's the point.

Yep. I live in a small town, (13,000), in what could be called a cow pasture. I run a small AM/FM combo, just for shits and giggles. The FM stereo was easy to get a decent sound, but the AM took some serious twiddling to achieve nice audio. Usually I run a music format, but the flip of a couple switches, and I can optimize to talk. I found that a good clean sound hinges on NO compression at all. (No next channel spatter...keeps the big boys happy and lessens the chance of uncle Charlie knockin' on the barn door). Narrow the audio a touch, and Dave sounds really good.

That's interesting...there are a couple of owners of low watt stations around me that play zero commercial/talk/dj classic rock, deep cuts and oldies...I have it on all the time.

The owners do it more as a hobby and have revenue from other mainstream stations that they already own. They already have the license, so no biggie.
