I love the reference...."this brother came in."  or "that brother was not a hologram."

Those brothers were jive turkeys.

Well technically, they'd be holograms if the universe was a hologram.

Any books with Romans being visited by space aliens?
Yep, Harry Turtledove wrote a series on something like that...an alternative universe with aliens I think. Haven't read it.

You'd prefer something like "Chelsea Dagger?"

That made me want to slow down the thread with a link to Jimi's "Dolly Dagger" for some reason...

It was suggested that these people have some sort of mental problem and I have to agree.

Not really related, but there was a guy on Reddit who, on request, started a series of posts about a platoon of Navy Seals who are thrust back in time and fight the Romans, with just what weapons they have on them - a small group using modern warfare tactics against ancient Rome. It was picked up by a major studio and is supposed to be made into a movie.

He did "research!" Awesome. There are so many 'researchers' but this one, again, says choose "love" not guvmint gonna kill us all! So, a good thing, I guess.

Don't say such things.  ;D

Out of curiosity, and much of it is 'fiction', in so far as documentation I guess technically now, do you like actual Roman etc history? You can go to old book stores etc and get Gibbon, Will and Ariel Durant, etc in modern English that is amazing and not need to read other languages, but also, not just dumbed down stuff.
Yes, since about the 7th grade I have read anything on Roman history. The actual history. Try reading some of the volumes from the 1800's and even ancient text and Roman historians.  The best recent Roman history book I read, which read like a novel, and I would suggest is Rubicon by Holland.

Yeah I understand. Change is hard. But you are just straight up crazy. How all this negativity can be enriching for you is a puzzle.

I hope you do find peace some day brother. We're here for you. Keep sharing, keep coming back ;)

Send me link by PM. We used to have ideas about round-robin events: Zulu vs Vikings, Apaches vs Mongols, Mongols vs Franks, Huns vs Souix etc back decades ago. I want to sue! hahahah

Not as crazy (or as interesting) as Preston Nichols when Connie Willis interviewed him, or when Roger Lear freaked David Reuben that night.

ShayP

LOL!  This is all over the place.  Within two seconds we go from space weapons, to Jesus on a piece of wood, to John Lennon being shot.

Not weird, actually, more like guys in high school, fraternities, etc. Actually normal, in the old days.
Ahem. Where did you go to school? Zeta Reticuli? Go Zetas Go!

There was a tv series about just such match ups... At least in some parallel universe there was.

Probably on the military channel. All done in CGI

I heard about a movie someone was trying to make about a Marine BCT(?Brigade Combat Team?) somehow getting sent back to Roman times I assume sometime during the interim after the Marian reforms to the Julian era?

The idea was to see how long they'd last before running out of the ammunition/gas etc...  Would they manage to defeat and take over the republic/fledgling empire?

Or maybe it was just an interesting thread on some forum somewhere, I dunno.

I'd watch it.

An alleged Minister who doesn't have a firm understanding on the Crucifixion. Makes me dubious on his being a true Man of God.

Good. I cast no aspersions, except that REAL, and I understand that it is always changing if new stuff discovered, that that the popular or novelized or, even faked, becomes more recognized.

Yes I think I  saw that years ago. Thought it was US Marines in Afghanistan.  Hinted that it was a crazy time travel thing gone wrong or some such thing. Would wish it was written.

Author R.W. Peake, retired USMC has a bunch of Roman novels. But has one stand alone book where Julius Caesar lives and isn't assassinated.  He goes to attack thru Persia and on to India, to Korea, parts of China and the legions are many years later, undefeated attacking the "Wa" , the Japanese.  Great story, very good author, called Caesar Ascending.
