Anybody with serious street creds already have a gig. If Art had built up a listening audience of 1m listeners, then it might have been easy to create a succession plan. No one with an established following would leave a sure thing to jump into a clusterfuck.
This ^.   As for HW; the sycophants do her no favors.  She should have announced on Night 1 that she'd host for a week until a permanent host was found.  Then quit. She is no prime time host, webcast or radio.  Maybe someday.  Now she'll carry a failed show albatross around her neck and have less chance at radio success than a station mail boy.  No one will care that Bell walked and put her in the hot seat. The plug will be pulled with her at the mic for enough time to shield Bell.  End of career.  HW is his human shield.

GTF out, kiddo; a sinking ship pulls the lifeboats that stay too close under.

What baffles my mind is who the hell cares if she worked in the sex industry? Big if. Any of one of us could be lying about who and what we are as it is the internet after all. This, in no way affects the show. If anything it gives her better skills when dealing with some of the idiots who call her show. I can't think of a more challenging industry than that one.

pretty much this..i just can not fathom why people care so much..even about Art...

Im someone who is bringing healthy dose of COMMON SENSE here.
You surely have his writing "style" though.

That was the first one I turned off, and peace flowed over me like a river.  Reminded me of the Hoagie show with the lady who talked to the 10-foot alien.  Too crazy to be entertaining.

Robert

Quote from: SredniVashtar on January 14, 2016, 09:57:14 AMTo the contrary. There doesn't seem to be any willingness to find another host, probably owing to Art's reluctance to spend serious money to help out the network by bringing in an established name.
Are you sure that's not in the works?

Anyway, "an established name" is very hard to come by in terms of what Art Bell & Heather Wade have done.  It's not as if there's a taxi squad of talk show hosts.  There is something of a minor league system, in that small stations like WVOX & WCWP here in the NYC area have been incubators of talent, but there's no obvious career path.  2 emcees of nighttime interview-&-phone-in shows, Milton Rosenberg & David Brudnoy, that I liked a lot were professors who pretty much stepped right up to the plate in the major leagues of talk radio w/o having come up thru broadcasting ranks at all.  Long John Nebel, cited often here as a precursor to Art Bell, had been an auctioneer who also sprang directly into the major leagues.

Meanwhile, people who've had a moderate degree of success as talk hosts wind up in other careers, as it's not as if the $ are big in radio talk for most.  I've mentioned Jason Jarvis here as precedent for what's gone on with [Redacted], in that he was the producer of his mother's national, mostly small-market Judy Jarvis Show, who took over on-mic when she sickened & again when she died.  Since he didn't seem to have the magic his mother had on air, I was surprised to learn that he kept the Jason Jarvis Show going 4 years, which is almost as long as his mother's show had run, so I guess that puts him in with those who were moderately successful.  I just did a LinkedIn search, & see he went on to become a construction project mgr., and then mgr. & now president of Jarvis Airfoil.  OK, it was the family biz (founded 1901 by Charles Jarvis), not exactly like he founded it, but that's where he's working.  I'm sure I could find many other hx of ex-talk show hosts.

But so what?  There's no reason to believe a Jason Jarvis would become an Art Bell (or even a Judy Jarvis) rather than a Heather Wade.  There's also no way to know Heather Wade will not eventually become a Howard Stern or a Jean Shepherd.

So what would you expect Art Bell or his executive producer to do, poach talent from a very popular existing show?  And who's to say that if you do poach talent from an existing show that doesn't specialize in fringe topics, you don't wind up with a George Noory who simply shows no interest in his own show once he's shoehorned into that milieu?  (Of course the difference is that Bell's company, unlike Premier, would get rid of a Noory quickly once he started performing like that, because they have respect for their audience & legacy...or do they?)

You could "promote" one of the "talent" people from one of the other DMDN shows to MITD, but what sense would that make?  You'd just be giving them a less favorable time slot.  You could instead simply get rid of MITD, move OSM into that slot, and invite former MITD listeners to listen to one of the shows that currently are lead-in to MITD.  (Some of those DMDN shows are good, like Military X Files, but I just haven't gotten into the habit of remembering the night of the week it's on.)

Ms. Wade is not bad, as talk hosts go, overall.  But she's like most in that, had it not been for the circumstances, I wouldn't listen unless there was a particularly interesting person being interviewed.  It's not like with Milt Rosenberg, David Brudnoy, or Art Bell, where I'd listen on general principles because the m.c. is that good -- but such people are few & far between!  It's no shame for Ms. Wade not to be in their class.  It's also not likely MITD with its current distribution & time slot is going to become like Steve Mahlzberg's show, whose m.c. I thought was awful, but which consistently drew such a string of good, prominent guests that I often tuned in for the half hour to hour that such a guest would typically be on -- partly a credit to their booker, partly just to their being on WOR in afternoon drive time.

The suspense factor of whether Mr. Bell will be back, whether Ms. Wade will rapidly blossom into stardom, or whether there'll be a good sequence of Musky Bottom calls is now about blown.  I'm on Eastern Time, not about to subscribe to archives (especially when there are so many free archived shows I could listen to instead) and really should get back to a sleep schedule more conducive to real life.  When I'm this cranky from having been up so late, I'm not about to charge my client $75/hr. for my work in this condition beyond maybe a couple hrs., let alone my other client for $125/hr., but the project's investors won't wait forever.

Wow, Heather is that fucking stupid.  Bring that loony idiot on for another 3 hours of radio hell?

Heidi obviously has a mental disorder.  She was not interesting.  Her voice and speaking pattern were atrocious.

Heather just needs to step down if she seriously is pushing to have this guest on again for three hours.

Not fucking stupid just desperate to have interesting guests.

Does anyone have a count of this woman's alleged paranormal encounters?  I'm trying to recall all of the once-in-a-lifetime stories she described...

- the nine aliens rifling through her bedroom
- hat man shadow person
- intimidating shadow person at her friends house
- shadow spiders (some multiple of these)
- shadow cat
- military abduction
- alien speaking to her through her friend

Crap I know I'm forgetting a bunch of stuff.  Then there are the 12 rare medical conditions including the "internal decapitation"  aka "two missing neck vertebrae" that somehow hasn't crippled her from birth.

She's like listening to Al Bieliek, but without the coherence...and that guy's fiction buried my BS meter so deep in the red that it bent the needle.  I wish I knew the prevalence of each of these kinds of reports so I could calculate the probability; must be 1 in a nonillion, at least.

And did anyone else think she sounded exactly like Kristen Schaal?  When the interview started I thought she was a comedian.

Am I wrong or does she have the same "bad luck" with aliens, extraterrestrials, bigfoot, ghosts, etc. as Whitley Streiber?

Or is Whitley also nutzoid?

As I have said before... I think she does a better job as a host than producer.
When it came to guests it all went downhill when she took over the job as producer.
She books guests that sounds interesting in theory but it seems like she never did the proper background check to see if they actually fit the show besides the general topic.
Two perfect examples was the witch and the satanist chick.

Auslandia

Can someone recap for me what happened last night??  I can't read all these pages but from my passive listening to the show, it sounded like she went to a break and the guest was no longer on the air with her.  The reason I was barely listening is that I found the guest to be kind of unfocused and really off topic.  Anyway, all of the sudden Heather was taking calls saying that she didn't understand what the guest was talking about.  Maybe that's not exactly what she said but it sounded like she just didn't follow the stories.  I was following the guest but it still sounded like a bunch of BS and at some point I started wondering wtf it had to do with shadow people.  Anyway, looks like this thread exploded over night with comments.  Did I miss something?  Was there some kind of heated exchange?

Oh, hey George!  Going a little anal there I see.  Butt hurt still smarting? ;D

I was just comparing some of your posts with that of one GNoory.  Very similar in writing techniques.  Perhaps it is really you George.  Why am I not surprised?

Here is a post of yours, from April 2015, directed to (Redacted).  I'll let it speak for itself, so to speak lol.

Just think about it.

Hey Starr I believe you're right! Notice how he's pretending he doesn't like Noory's style.
That reminds me of something I once read in the GNS thread, that Noory said on his show how he thinks that his "haters" just don't like his style. He gave himself away right there. The writing style is the same too.

There are no coincidences.  ;D

He seems very concerned about getting revenge on Redacted for things she's said about Noory. If he was a regular poster why would he care about Noory's feelings?

She had nowhere to go but up in that comparison.  I fully agree; aside from a few of the old C2C war horses who probably appeared for old times' sake, Bell's MITD guests were generally worse than most of the other DMDN shows managed.

OK… Seriously what in the holy fuck was up with the guy that called and told the story about the shadow person sexually assaulting his wife? If I were Heather I would have that fucking called traced. That was really fucking creepy. And the guy said he lives near art.

After reading your post, I got curious so I went over to the Heidi Hollis Facebook page. Evidently, Heather cut her off.

whoa that lady was either VERY crazy or just really confident in her ability to lie about shit.  When she got to the shadow spiders and cat I could already see the hook coming out.  Glad she got canned.

I can't tell which it is either.  Within the first ten minutes or so I realized that there wasn't any substance to her shtick, but I reluctantly opted to listen for the comedic/historic value, viz "no, that loony shadow person lady was the worst guest ever."  I wonder if she has an alien in her freezer too  ::)

Yes, it is unfortunate when mental illness is misappropriated as paranormal.  It might be abnormal, but not paranormal.

Wow, those symptoms are frickin' identical to this woman's stories, right down to the "shadow spiders."  Nice catch.  Apparently this poor woman found relief after consulting with Dr. Woks B Wong:

I see thiings too.  I think it is fairly common in BP.

I do think tho it would be worth telling your Dr what you are experiencing.  I am a lot better since they found an antipsychotic that woked for me

The shaking the grey alien home invader that turned out to be her nephew story confirmed she was crazy.

Yeah that was a chilling moment..."Then it said 'I'm your nephew!'  And it looked like my nephew, but younger...so I offered it a cookie..."  Yikes.

I love her, why couldn't it have been her? I would have had to have found a way to listen. She is Louise on Bob's Burgers, and was Hazel Waizername on 30 Rock who was plotting against Liz Lemon.

She was great on 30 Rock.  In fact I think she could've pulled off last night's show as an "alien abductee skit" and it would've been almost identical, just funnier:

"Oh yeeaaah - I've been poked, probed, prodded and herded with the best of them!  One time I gave Whitley some tips on how us ladies handle the probe, and once I even gave Ronald Reagan the finger from a port hole and he chased us in his jet!  Then we had dinner with shadow spiders at Area 51 and saved the world from the Lava Men.  Are you getting all this?  Try to keep up Heather!"

You know... There have been crazier lol. I'm just surprised she hung up on her without saying something. I mean, she was definitely not the nuttiest person I've heard on that show but hell, maybe Heather thought she was being trolled.
