One night when I was a kid, my sister, cousin and I were staying overnight at my grandma's. Really early in the morning everyone was asleep and I had to go upstairs for something (a drink, bathroom, I can't remember). The basement was really dark and I was walking up the stairs really slow so I wouldn't trip. Suddenly a voice just shouted out "BOO!" and I turned around startled, expecting my sister or cousin but no one was behind me, and the only sound that I heard after that was my grandma's cat purring loudly on the steps.

My dad and I still joke about whether the cat said "BOO".

Sounds like a spook light.
I saw one once in Hornet, MO.
It is a famous one and you can look it up.
There's this dirt road and local folks
go out every weekend in their pickups
and hang out on the road waiting to see it.

What I saw was very short-lived but it hanged above the dirt road for 5-10 seconds
before it swerved off into the woods.

Sounds awesome, that might be another stop on the next road trip.

I've heard it appears pretty regularly for a paranormal phenomenon. I've thought about going out there. Joplin's on the other side of MO, but not too far.

We lived for a number of years on the SW MO/NW AR  border so we'd go up there and check out the spooklight usually after spending time shopping or going to movies in Joplin.
