I welcome the Maple Wave, because the happiest pancakes are the ones that have had the good fortune to be drenched in pure Canadian maple syrup.  It's the poutine that scares me.  GFP will attest to that.

I'm still waiting on someone from Canada to explain to me why you jettisoned the Red Ensign for the Maple Leaf flag.  The Leafs finished in 4th place in only a 6-team league that year.  The Canadiens won the cup - why don't you have a Hab flag?

Harper was a great PM up until his last term.

Then he was great in terms of an international leader, but not so much of someone that Canadians wanted.  He was the leader they needed. 

But he turned a bit Nixonian, and ended up cold, distant, and paranoid.  Did he have good reason?  It appears that he did, and history will certainly justify his concern.  But that doesn't seem to matter when the population of the nation doesn't want to face the cold realities of the world.  Hence we have the backlash of awesome hair rockstar politician from planet Leftonia. 


From a perspective of an internal power struggle, the old Ottawa and Quebec power brokers have hated Harper since his last election because it proved that the Western provinces could tell Ottawa and Quebec to fuck off, and take the PM seat with or without a majority government.  If there is any source of political land mines that Harper could step on over his last term, this was the source of those boondoggles.  He was doomed from the start of his last term because of his success at grabbing power.

But hey......pot, cool-hair, love-fest now.  (just no bad music or video games m'kay?).

Yeah this guy is decently smart enough, charismatic, and talented, but nothing compared to his father.

PET was an intellectual heavyweight.  Almost to his detriment.  Overthink everything, when the simple solution will do.

He had a Henry Kissinger level ability to interact with world leaders.

But Justin is nowhere near the capacity for world leader.

Yeah I agree that was my assesment as well.

My level of understanding comes from manning an analyst desk for an American company for a few years, with responsibilities that included advising on the economic ramifications of Canadian political changes.  This did include some travel and interaction.   But I am an American born and bred.  Just have a unique and extensive first hand exposure.

Canadian politics are a lot more "fun" than American.  But holy crap the government exists only to inject itself into every aspect of life, and then some.

Overall, a well managed, intelligent and eagaltarian government, despite my distaste for some of the more social democrat leanings , and lack of fundamentally enumerated freedoms.
