            What you're missing is a low IQ, as this movie is apparently made for dullards and ten-year-olds. Pity, too, considering that for the money they spent making it they could have made something cool. Really great (as in thoughtful and clever) science fiction movies are rare these days. They are dumbed down like everything else.

You are right though. In a time of what seems to be a lot of SciFi getting made, how much of it is really deep / quality stuff vs popcorn / summer movie fluff? I'm not saying that great, deep SciFi is easy... it sure doesn't seem like it. And I enjoy a random "Independence Day" type movie. Maybe it's just the glut of comic book movies skewing things? Those are just about all popcorn fluff. But, Jurassic World was a different level of bad. I walked out of Borat years ago and at least I got some laughs out of it. Jurassic World... that seriously was SyFy movie of the week fodder.

Serenity - best sci fi flick of all time. Jurassic World was leftovers. And not very tasty!

Jurassic World was the first movie I saw in theaters in probably... five? six? a lot of years. It was pretty good in theaters. I thought it had it's moments and was an alright popcorn flick.

It's not even in the same realm as the true king though

I thought it was ok for kids. CGI wasn't as offensive to me as most modern movies. The original movie I thought was a lot of fun and done pretty well. This one, not as much, but still "ok." At this stage in the franchise, and rip-offs, and due to modern actual science, I would consider it more of an "adventure" or "family adventure" movie than SCI-FI.

I'm going to throw a plug out. Ironically the last movie I think I saw in theaters was probably one of the best sci-fi films I've ever seen. The travesty is virtually no one saw it and it only played in art theaters. But if you get a chance, check out this film Moon. I went and saw it twice because I loved it so much. And this is from someone who usually isn't that into scifi.

Yes and unlike typical sci-fi blockbusters it was less about cgi action sequences and more about a thought-provoking theme.  Btw another little indie movie that's worth a look is Europa Report.

Fantastic film. Directed by the son of some guy named David Jones, who wrote songs about Major Tom and such.

        Funny you should mention this, because while I was typing my reply to the OP above, I was thinking about Serenity and almost mentioned it. It was truly a great, engrossing, fun sci fi movie of the kind we don't get much anymore. The odd thing was I hadn't liked the series much, found it kind of dull. Joss Whedon can surprise you, that's for sure, though I don't think much of his present incarnation as The Avengers' director. Saw the first one of those. That was enough.

           Well said, my brother. 2001 was the one that started it all, opened my mind as a young boy and was as much a spiritual experience for me back then as a great science fiction movie. Visionary. Grand. Something Hollywood wouldn't have the wits to think of nowadays. Well, I take that back, the Leprechaun movies were inspired.

1. Yes, Moon is a great movie.

2. I feel bad for lumping Jurassic World in with SyFy.

I **purchased** the following movies:
Sharktopus - Had its moments.
Mansquito - Otherwise known as "Mosquito Man" on the DVD shelf. Hilarious.
Ice Spiders - Not a terrible movie w/ the guy from Saved By The Bell.
Sharknado - Memories: I was living with my in-laws while waiting to close on a house. This was premiering. They thought I was nuts.
Mega Python vs. Gatoroid - One word: cat-fight

But, I still think Mega Piranha is the best ever for them.

The thing with those SyFy films is that they weren't sold with as much seriousness as Jurassic World. It was "here's a campy movie on a crazy concept." B-movies from the get-go. Jurassic World was sold as this blockbuster sequel in the lineage of the Crichton books.

Jurassic World, for me, fell short on the scary aspect. Maybe it's because I was much younger when I saw it, but Jurassic Park had a certain creepiness. World was basically "here's a bunch of CGI creatures beating the shit out of everyone."

             It didn't use to be just hype. Back in his heyday, he dun did Buffy and Angel, which for those of us who were into them hardcore, were a veritable way of life. Then he achieved middle-age, and started making big budget Hollywood excretia of the Avengers variety. I'll grant you Scarlett Johansson's ass in a tight pair of black lycra pants was a thing to behold, once upon a time, but that ain't enough to excuse these movies. I fear Whedon's best is behind him and from here on out it'll be one pile o' Noory after another.

You will find no argument here! hahaha. I'm probably in the minority, but as far as "Marvel Movies", I liked the Thor movies the best. Can't put my finger on it, but they were the ones I fully enjoyed.
