Did Art figure out his internet issue

Last I saw on facebook he was still waiting for tech support to arrive and that was like three hours ago.  :

Seems like he could have just ran a network cable across the ground to the house temporarily until a permanent fix happens.

Just saw a post from Art that said help arrived and they found/fixed the problem and he's back in biz. A kinked cable in a box outside.

I hope he puts a game cam up around that box. Me thinks some paralegals earning some overtime and expenses for a roadtrip, perhaps? But, yeah that stuff happens but that seems to be something easily found? Idk, when my cable/phone/inet goes out first thing is check the cable and the junctions and that box by street (I even, once, got on the ladder for that splitter/amplifer junction box used in an older neighborhood. Not advised...especially as Art has had a bad "ladder experience" before.

Cool beans that he got it working.

I work with fiber everyday.  When it works it is great, but if the wrong people handle it, and treat it like copper it can turn expensive real quick.

I remember Dave's classic, "There are no coincidences" talks, and I instantly suspect someone lurking around the Bell compound, opening junction boxes and trying to wreak the worst kind of havok by creating a problem that is near impossible to track down.

First 3 rules of networking: check cables, check cables, check cables.

Art needs to set up a 4g cellphone tether to a router in his studio as a failover. Cradlepoint makes a couple really nice 4G routers, and Verizon has the Novatel T1114 4G router w/ voice via RJ11, and it has SMA connectors (and if you look real hard you can get one for less than $50)

Failover to would be supreme, and cellphone towers have backup generators. I'm a computer network technian, and I would be happy to walk Art through getting this all wired in. Could have it set up an an hour or two via a Skype Session with a camera on the project.

I like the new avatar but I hope this "incident" wasn't a result of same. I think Art needs to put up some game cams, just in case though. And, as others above posted, some redundant systems. He will win, though I still say, as he did early on being a nice guy, a place for the current C2C "model," to use a RCH phrase, and his show. Quality wins out, but there is still, always, the cheap beer. It shouldn't be a war, but they want it, so bring on Scorpion Army etc.

if it was a bad crimp on a cat5 cable, that's easy enough to understand`. Cables become unjacketed if the tech that makes them uses cheap connectors, inferior cable, or just doesn't have a good ratcheting crimper. Hell, I know plenty of cable monkeys (totally racist term) that couldn't punch down a panel or terminate an RF cable without screwing something up in the process.

I like your RCH idea. I don't understand, much of the other, aside from critters (natural not iHate), plants, bad protection, weather, etc I would think connections should be secured better and protected against most things.} I know they are not but why not? (By the way, can tell great tales of the phone switches in my basement, somehow, of an old building and Bell, not Art but company, having issues and had to come in. Oh, wow. Apparently some "cheap" shared phone lines (we maybe figured an easy way to share them) was a "Federal wire tapping" supposed charge. hahah. But I guess we could've tapped into many others...just yesterday I got a "knock at door" by some cable guy and he needed to get into my backyard...because "the way they plotted and fenced" meant the junction and neighbors place is on my land. Ha. Brings back memories. Do people still get "free" cable? I recall an incident back then also with "leakage" detectors", All of this is a joke and funny fictions by the way. No laws ever violated by me, or others. Fiction/fantasy.

A couple of months ago we had some serious issues with one of the phone lines in the office. The phone guy looked at it said nothing wrong. he was leaving and I tested the phone. The phone was dead! Made the technician open the port again, and all the wires were loose. So the wires were punched down again. The phone is working better now, though that was not the only problem.

Never seen a bad punch down job before that phone line.

Right, if a data cable is kinked it will back up data to the point it slows down and stops. Basically its the same principle with a plugged toilet.

Best to keep data lines arranged in straight bundles to move the data in a smooth bi-direction.

Jeez, I second my idea that he needs a game cam out there. I sense some paralegals at work. I wonder why/how he couldn't use a satellite system or 4G? Maybe do a more Dreamland-like show since he wouldn't be able to get callers easy but at least a new show. Especially as show is growing, important to have shows. I hope they get it fixed it time!! Or use KNYE facilities for tonight's show, maybe, as a favor?

Okay, I've been doing some research, and I have found a cost-effective solution for Mr. Bell to establish failover on the CHEAP.

Cradlepoint Mbr1200b - $30 for a used/tested on eBay- This does 1 RJ45 WAN IN, and 2 USB in for 4g data sticks. They support 125+ Data sticks and hotspots, and it has FAILOVER

Get a cheapo data plan as emergency backup Bring your own device so you don't need a contract they are all over Amazon and Ebay:

-T-mobile has excellent coverage in Pahrump. The Rocket or Jet 2.0 are the best 4G sticks on compatibity list

-Verizon also has excellent coverage. I'd be willing to GIVE Art my old Novatel USB551L.  (I'm keeping my grandfathered in unlimited data though) I got my USB card for $30, and I average 30Mbps download and 15Mbps upload)

I COULD PRECONFIGURE IT AND GET THE FAILOVER WORKING, SO ALL ART NEEDS TO DO IS SLIP IN A SIM and plug the LV.net modem on the WAN port.

I've spent hours researching this for other businesses, and all Art would have to do is PM me to explore it out. A cheapo failover plan could cost as little as $25/mo and less than $100 for all the equipment

Here's my solution: You add 1 card each, from 2 different providers, plus your LV.net ethernet connection, and have TRIPLE REDUNDANCY, Art. one drops, it switches over to 1 card, and in case that tower blows up, it can fail over to another carrier, with their own fiber pulled to that tower. $60-80/month for ultimate peace of mind, plus the cell towers have backup power sources!
