Memorable Callers from the MITD/OSM Universe

Oh man, is this not the best thing ever? I am so enjoying DMRN and this five hour block of shows. My absolute favorite part of each show is the open lines segments and the call-in segments. Late night open lines and the interesting and crazy people it brings is so unique in the entertainment world that I look forward to it each week. I thought it would be interesting to talk about the callers who've struck a cord with us since we already are talking about them in the live threads.

Here's a list of callers off the top of my head

Charlie From Thailand - The undisputed King. Called in on the test show the night before launch with an insane story about ejaculating into your own bladder and a lot of weird inferences about life in Thailand. Now he calls every once in awhile to talk about astronomy or whatever.

Michelle From Japan who may or may not have opened a young man's mind to liberal ideas - Nice lady who calls in to both Art and Hollywood Hoagland all the time to talk about whatever. Memorable for calling into Hoagland after this hilarious trolling call about transsexual blows jobs expressing major support for transsexualism.

Classified Classified - The first government whistle blower who called in using a voice changer and told of a conspiracy involving genetically modified food among other things.

The Burnt Out Guy from Edinburgh, Scotland - These calls are absolutely hilarious. There's a guy who calls in from Edinburgh who has a thick Scottish accent mixed with what sounds like massive quantities of Whiskey, Cigarettes, Cocaine, Boiling Water and Burning Lava shoved down his throat every day since birth. Every time he calls in, there's at least a couple posts back to back that all say "What?" The funniest thing is for some reason Art understands him perfectly. So it sounds like Han Solo and an alien in a bar having a conversation with one side being alien gibberish and the other side being Art having a completely normal conversation.

As much as I love Art's open lines, I think I like Hollywood Hoagland's more. Hoags attracts a special brand of crazy and doesn't have the same reverence as Art which leads to unbelievable evenings of insane and trolling callers. Here's a list of memorable Otherside of Midnight Callers off the top of my head. I missed the first few weeks of RCH until I realized the brilliance of RCH is not in listening to what he's saying but all the unintentional comedy going on around him.

The Mysterious Troll at the Beginning of Each Show - It is the funniest thing ever that in at the beginning of every show almost, someone calls Hollywood Hoag's house phone during his opening monologue. Hoagland will be doing his best to get through whatever woo bullshit he's spewing when the show comes to a complete halt as his phone which he never seems to unplug rings crashingly through the show completely throwing him off. This is followed by weird patterns of dial tone and disconnected phone sound. The running theory is that it's Art calling to troll Richard at the beginning of each show. 

Hoagland's Stalker - A guy with a deep New York accent who calls in regularly to yell at Hollywood Hoags about how he's a fraud and how he's going to sue him. It's somewhat funny except Hoagie goes on a long dissertation about how this guy is mentally unstable and has threatened his life which is... frightening.

The young man who's mind was opened to liberal ideas by someone who may or may not have been Michelle - In what has been the funniest call I have witnessed so far. A young man who is either rather unhinged or a brilliant troll called in one night and steamrolled Hoagland through a story about how receiving a blowjob from a transsexual opened his mind to liberal ideas. After several minutes of a bizarre interweaving story about transsexuals, Hoagland asked "What does this have to do with anything?" to which the caller again took over weaving a weird story that ended with the punchline to effect of "...and getting that blowjob from that transsexual really opened me up to new ideas." It was the funniest thing I've heard yet. Although it did lead to an interesting good place of Hollywood Hoag's coming out fiercely in support of LBGTQMLBESPN which has been a background theme now for awhile.

Don't forget the Motorcycle Time Traveller. Though I think he saw one particular season (possibly episode) of Doctor Who.

I wonder if I could survive a trip to Scotland.... I adapted to Australia, but even at the worse they are not that bad.

Does anyone else recall a male caller who said he was in Vegas and decided to drive to Art's place, I think to see his radio tower or something? Trying to remember what show that was on? Anyone?

Michelle was my version of "flirty lady" that used to call Art on Coast, with nothing to say. Almost Charlie, Liberal, CA annoying. As for Hoagie's show, Stalker hands down.

The troll caller at the beginning of Hoagies show is mainly Bellgab people. I have done it and I know several others here have as well. How could you not? It had me in tears every time.
