Rocket Engine Test, Strange Visuals

Just watched the NASA rocket engine test from Art Bells website and saw something strange.  During the great video footage of the test, there seems to be a "Jacob's Ladder" like visual traveling up the rocket nozzle. Is this just video matrixing, like what we see when a camera records a video screen? Looks a bit like the way a Star Trek warp core is displayed in the movies. Probably diamond shock patterns caused by differences in pressure between rocket exhaust and surrounding ambient air.

Looks like some kind of thermal banding, heat exchanging, to me, the green and purple hue bands circulating upwards.
I'm still surprised those things don't just go molten after taking that kind of beating for so long! Do you know what material they're made of ? some composite ceramic/metalic ?
