The Official I Hate Open Lines Thread

Started by Richard Howard, July 24, 2015, 07:42:46 PM

<rant> Really I do. It's laziness. Much better to have guests and topics than to hear, "Hi Art, how are you doing? Love the show. Long time listener, first time caller" fifty times in a night. No caller will be as interesting as a guest and thoughtful interview with a focused theme. </rant>

Yeah...it's laziness. Go listen to Noory and his guest tonight.

Noory has nothing to do with this topic, nor does does your reply refute the premise. Art + Guest > Open Lines.

Here's a quick summation. Whiny 22 year old child never listened to Art and has no understanding of what his show was.

     You suck. That is all.

Open lines is my absolute favorite part of the show. You don't know what you're going to get and for me it's captivating wondering if the next call will be a whistle blower or a good ol' boy reporting UFOs. I also think it's interesting hearing what's on peoples minds. Now granted my frame of reference is classic open lines when he'd occasionally have a special open line. The Sirius open lines kind of sucked because it was mainly his huge fans calling in with nothing to say. But I'm hopeful given how huge Art's numbers were in the beginning and as they grow that open lines will be as awesome as it once was.

Open lines resulted in some of the best Art Bell stuff ever such as the area 51 caller. Sure, most calls aren't much to speak of, but every so often something really entertaining comes through that's better than any guest.

You fucking crybabies.

Art should just quit again.  He can't make all the autists happy.

>muh 3 hours not enough
>open lines cant handle such randomness
>muh first caller was fake

>jazmunda called in again
>I don't like X guest, I refuse to listen ablooobloooobloooobloobloooo
>muh snowflake browser doesn't work with the download.
>much hassle is download, such 3 parts.

Open lines is great, it creates a 3 hour conversation with friends.

Looking forward to the show in 30.

Some people love open lines. It's impossible to please everyone. I hope Redacted is on again tonight, I want to give it another chance.

I've been saying this all week. We waited 2 years for Art to return to the airwaves and the first world problems of some of his fans start on Day 1.

To the original poster, if you didn't enjoy the very first phone call, there's nothing here for you.  Good news though. C2C needs more listeners.

Open lines cured my cancer and regrew my hair.
AND entertained me.

Dave (least one actually named that) isnt on tonight..Schrader is and sounds like a decent show for a change...sadly though it is up against Art

You guys are dorks.. open lines rules.  I get bored with most guests after an hour or 2.. open lines is always unpredictable.  ;D

I just wish the fans who call would quit drooling, repeating that annoying 'roswells' shit and just get to the point with something interesting to say. I'm sure art rolls his eyes every time someone says 'roswells'. I don't think art enjoys the reverence like Georgie does.

Ghost stories, vampires, Holes to the center of the earth, Time travelers, ghosts caught in bug traps, witches, monsters, aliens, immortals, abductees, Area 51 workers, yeah open lines is real boring.

Didn't Art start the 'Roswells' thing himself? It was my impression that he specifically preferred this to callers giving the whole 'Welcome back, so glad you're on the air, wow I love you' spiel every time. One word is so much more efficient.

When I steal this in the future, you need to know now that I've been sitting here for 30 seconds with tears squirting out of my eyes.

Personally I'm a fan of the loosely-focused open lines with a general theme (time travelers, Antichrist, witches, vampires, etc.).  Maybe I just haven't experienced pure open lines with Art in so many years (and suffered through Noory's painful open lines attempts) that it will take some acclimation.

In total agreement, thank you!  Guess I should have posted my parse minutiae/nitpicking rant in this thread.   :)

*insert long story of how easy they have it now and how we had to listen to noise when we put our phone receivers into the modem and how long it took things to load and download. . . finish by reminding everyone that we had to walk uphill in the snow barefoot both ways to get to and from school*

seems to be a pretty good listener base.  I think it turned out well.

I was kind of hoping to hear Redacted.

I love playing Fallout Vegas while listening to Art ..kind of weird but its all me :)

+1 for open lines being the best.   Seems to me that every radio show that I have ever liked has had some kind of open lines, or at at a minimum call ins for a "guest" (ala Phil Hendrie)
