Maybe it was this? Big Black Delta - "Side of the Road"

No idea at this point! It's been an hour of random music since then.

Really good song - I have the album. Industrial - lists NIN as a heavy influence.

It's like some alternate universe where he never left Coast, just decided to change the name to Midnight in the Desert. He has not lost a step.
Listening to Art again is fantastic.  I really do feel like a time traveler.  I'm back in the '90s.

It's pure magic.  I thought I could hear him shaking off a little bit of rust in the first few shows.  Tonight he shone like a diamond.  His voice was impeccable, his pacing was flawless, and his curiosity was completely authentic. Damn, I'm happy.
Yeah.  This topic fascinates.  Atoms are depressions in time and space. I'll remember that.

I think our country should really do more to catch people with problems when they are kids.  Maybe catch them in schools and interview them and their parents to ward off problems before they become larger.  A big problem with crime, I think, is that people procreate and don't have a clue about proper child rearing and cannot comfortably support a child, leaving the kid to grow up in a rough neighborhood.  No, that's not everyone's issue, but it is for a lot.

Unfortunately, you can not manipulate a particle that is entangled without breaking the connection.  As I understand, once it's observed it's no good.  So, you can observe a particle and know what the entangled one did, but it's really useless because it's still only a random event that cannot be controlled like a bit in a computer.  There is no known way to transmit information faster than light.

This is my understanding as well.  Quantum entanglement's usefuleness for communication is as a wax seal to detect tampering.

Entanglement does have a real world application which is encryption.  You can use it as a key that can only be decoded at the origin and the terminus.  Even then, you still must send the information about the key at the speed of light.

I really should wait to reply until I've read the entire thread, LOL.

I listened to the archive this morning and I have to say it's been my favorite MiTD so far.  I would like to have future fringe scientists challenged during the show by mainstream professionals, though.  If the guest can defend his views capably then we might really have something beyond entertainment.

Dr Who

Thought todays show was fantastic classic Art Bell

This show is one of the best shows I have ever heard.  I will have to re-listen to it a few times because the concepts are huge.  Imagine modulating gravity?  I hope Art brings this man back again soon.  WOW.

Not that I consider myself well read on the subject, but I read that, if we don't know what the mechanism is of quantum entanglement, we really should not be ruling anything out.

Great show. Finishing up my 2nd listen as we speak.

I have just got around to listening to this show. I was not sure about the guy at first, but thanks to Art's terrific questions the show became fascinating with lots of great information. I can't help but think how it would of been if this guy was interviewed by Dave - it would be beyond tragedy.

This show is a classic example of why Art is the king of this genre of radio, what a fantastic week of shows. Great Start Art! :)

Dave you are finished, just leave and go away, the master is back! ;D

Great show. Finishing up my 2nd listen as we speak.

He said that people that believe in an afterlife would not go out and murder people right before they were to die, he fails to remember that Muslims do precisely this for the Mohammed Code that they follow. People usually high on prescription anti-depressants would do this even if they sometimes thought of an afterlife. Drugs maybe all that maybe needed to behave insanely. If not drugs then mad ideology.

I think you mean Islamic terrorists.  Muslim leaders have denounced these guys, called fatwahs on them, said they are perverting the message of Mohammad and are using their phoney religion to control the masses and acquire power for themselves.  Over 125 Muslim leaders have done such things.

Although I am not religious, I think it is in poor taste to lambaste an entire religion for the crimes of only some.  Look at the 'Christians' in Africa who hate gays - even those in this country.  Does that mean ALL Christians are unthinking and cruel?

If you really mean to say ALL Muslims are this way, I would invite you to reconsider.  There is nothing that would please the terrorists more than we, in the states, persecute our Muslim population.  This would bring many recruits rushing into their arms, wouldn't it?  It is in our own self interest that we should live together peaceably.

That in NO way means they should infringe our laws in the name of their religion.

There was a song towards the end that had a electric drum beat. It had an 80s sound that kinda reminded me of The Cure.

He played that???

Capsize by big black delta! I posted that in the music suggestions.

Hey Saucy! We bee missing you terribly! Come and visit after the Big Show tonight.

Berkeylicious

I was ready to write this guest off, as he sounded very unsure and almost "full of it" at the beginning, but as time went on and Art deftly posed questions, Mr Haramein warmed up very quickly. Part of the problem is that his accent unfortunately has a very hesitant quality to it, like someone reaching for answers when called on the carpet.

Belief in Mohammed compels one to act as Mohammed did, if not then you maybe not considered a true Muslim, Mohammed was no saint, why would anyone not slightly off kilter follow a general for spiritual advice? IDK, to me that seems the problem with beliefs, nothing else gets into the mind once that filter gets stuck and placed in front of any information. This maybe the problem with it imho. This belief implies a battle for the purity of Islam, and the founder of it was crystal clear in how non-believers were to get dealt with. I wouldn't call myself a Muslim if I only believed in the good parts cause that would make me a target, I would just leave and renounce all faith, and that still means I would become a marked man in that society. There maybe no faith in a belief system that requires fear and intimidation to keep followers and banishment and death if one chooses not to follow it. https://youtu.be/giiapwYL2U8

Good interview for sure and entertaining.  Its a shame this person is a bit of a hack.

Googling this person further reveals more information regarding his so called "Peer reviewed" articles and "Awards".

Hope Art interviews Michio Kaku again soon, as well as being as great guest, he's also the real deal, unlike we heard tonight.

Dave has one of his minions posting "news" articles (choke, cough snort) on the www.beforeitsnews.com website all of a sudden.

Some more explanations....Anyone want to know why the space shuttle was given the ax?

Yes.  It seems that all religions that accept the bible as part of their god concept can easily be skewered into an excuse for doing evil. I was not speaking as though you or I would consider joining such a religion, just that, like Christianity, not all who practice the religion have the 'us against them' mentality.  Not all of them would change the civilized world and bring us back into the stone age.  Some manage to sidestep(interpret differently) the precepts that would lead them into being knuckle draggers.

Paradox

Seems like we are outgrowing the simplified explanation of gravity we've all been taught.  I, too, am going back to listen again.  Trying to get an understanding of some of it.  I have no formal education in physics so it is a learning curve.  I will say that right now I find Nassim Haramein's explanations more logical then Maurice Cotterell's.

Has RH been following him every night all week? I had no idea... Maybe I'll let this roll and see what his show is all about... I only noticed because I was doing something and didn't kill the channel right away.

No actually RCH has just discovered Ancient Ruins on Pluto!  This is his latest passion since the photos have been coming out.  It seems as if our whole solar system was once colonized!!

I'm sorry if some think it makes me a bad person.  I'm really glad everyone enjoyed the show and I didn't want to ruin it, but Nassim Haramein is nothing more than a new age guru who uses science as his palette.  He takes advantage of his European accent to sound like an intellectual, throws in some geometry and voila!  Yes, probably seventy percent of what he says is based on real (lay man's) science but the other 30 percent, the interesting stuff, is unsupported and in fact often contradicts known science.

For instance, everything we know about singularities says there cannot be black holes at the center of protons.  It doesn't fit with observation or theory.  Of course, we've never seen the sub-structure of a proton so who really knows?  But there's really no basis for Nassim's argument.

For instance, as discussed earlier quantum entanglement cannot be manipulated to send messages as he says it can.

For instance, the universal gravitational constant is known very precisely and is measured by every second year physics student, and since we know it so precisely I'm certain we would have noticed if it was affected by rotation as Nassim claims.  But it is only affected by mass and distance from the mass.  Of course Einstein's equations modifies that a little for strong gravitation fields, but even that has been measured very precisely and to the best of my knowledge is not observed to be influenced by rotation.

For instance, Nassim makes great claims about the EM engine experiments and how it's going to allow us to travel instantly form place to place, but the measured effect was so small it was in the noise of the experiment and the details of the experiment have yet to be released for peer review.

For instance, Nassim has no peer reviewed work that I am aware of.  That is important.  Peer reviewed work shows that you are able to make logical assumptions, arguments, and evaluations, and lets everybody else check your work for errors and misunderstandings.  It authenticates that you can actually research.  He does make a claim about a peer reviewed paper, but it was just a paper presented at a computing conference which was unrelated to the science of the paper.

Nancy asked for details of why he was misrepresenting himself.  I didn't say much during the interview because I didn't want to rain on anyone's parade, and I'm only really trained in classical physics so who am I?  Nevertheless, for what it is worth here are some details off the top of my head.

It bothers me because legitimate, honest physicists work and struggle really, really hard for their level of expertise.  The material they must learn is mind-numbingly difficult.  Yet, being honest and accountable, they mostly toil in obscurity and are usurped in the media by some guy trying to take a short cut and not really understanding the real essence of the material.  It would be like a journalist who writes a bunch of sensationalist stories without vetting the facts and becomes famous, while another journalist struggles through their education and works exceedingly hard to track down leads and information, but lives a meager life and never gets noticed.

For what it's worth.

CornyCrow

Well, from my sparse knowledge, I that idea of quantum entanglement not being able to convey messages is really debatable.  It is not right to only give the opinions of one side.

So, if he's off on that point, then there are probably others and you're right Georgie-for.

It's still interesting, though.
