Having problems with NO SOUND in Art's Archives--any solutions?

Started by DesertFox, July 20, 2015, 01:04:00 PM

DesertFox

I just bought the $5 a month deal and went to the archives which has the test show there BUT it run without any sound.

Anyone else have this problem?  Any ideas on how to fix it?  Or where to go for a solution?   I have no problem hearing the live stream--but the archives...zero sound.

DesertFox

Are the archives up and running with sound for anyone else yet?

The General

It worked for me, but what a roundabout website.
It took me a long time to even figure out where to log in and how to find the archives.

My other gripe is that it appears that since it is a 'subscriber only' podcast, that there won't be a traditional RSS feed page so that I can use the device of my choice easily.  In this case, it's a Grace Digital Reciva internet radio.  I can't log in to my account with that device, so I can't listen on that radio, I suppose.  I don't know.  Any ideas?

Worked fine for me - went there, was already logged in - went to "your subscriptions" and clicked on the play button. Got sound immediately. Kinda sucked that the "From the great American Southwest" part of Art's intro was cut off.. but it worked fine. It's mp3 format - maybe you don't have a codec for that? But seems that's a really common codec.

ZomZom

Worked fine for me on my iPhone.  How are you accessing (what device and browser)?

Updating to include the archive URL (presumably accessible by Time Travelers only).  Just tested on my MacBook running Safari without issue.

Not sure about mp3 format--where would I look to see if I had it?

Also was on my computer on both internet explorer and google chrome to answer ZomZom.

ZomZom

Do you have sound from any other source (like iTunes) on your computer?  I hate to ask, but are you sure the volume is up?

The sound worked for me. Whats annoying is when you pause it messes up. When you hit play again it plays for 15 seconds then goes back to the beginning. When I hit play it looks like it plays, but there is no sound. I have to open a new tab and reopen the page for it to work. Also in Chrome and Firefox clicking on the 'download' link just opens another tab and starts playing. Still same issue with the pausing

I'm not tech savvy but I do know to turn the volume up...lol.  But the live stream works fine for me on Dark Matter.  And I can listen to YouTube, etc.

ZomZom

And when you listen to the live stream on Dark Matter or when you listen to YouTube, you are using the same browser?  If so, I'm stumped.

Yep--same browser.  And I think my sign up worked since I sign in my password and I get to the archives and press start for the test show and it runs but without sound.

I'm thinking it has to be something specific with that archive.  Does what Frodo mentioned make sense--about needing a mp3 codec for the archive?  I have no idea if I have that.

If you are not hearing sound on that link that was sent above for a frequency test you are not hearing .mp3 codec. Not sure why since it is a VERY common format. Try going to his link - it's the DMDN stream in .mp3 format...

If you don't hear anything - lack of proper .mp3 decoding ability is indeed your issue.

A traditional RSS feed is actually possible with a subscriber only podcast.  For example, the Anthony Cumia Show podcast does this.  You can only get an RSS feed link if you are a subscriber.  It generates a unique link that can only be used once per subscriber (so it won't work for others).  Maybe something for Mr. Rowland to look into?

I'm having a hard time getting to this with my security settings...not sure what that issue is.  But let me as you--say it is a mp3 problem...I see some free downloads for that.  Would it be safe to do it and would a simple quick free download solve the problem?

You should be careful downloading codec packs or missing codec "solutions" .. they are often loaded with malware. Let me see if I can find a safe source.

Thanks!

Windows 7

Do you not have windows media  player on your system? You should with Windows 7 and it supports .mp3 playback.

Yes I do.  So I guess it might not be that then.  Maybe I need to double-check to see that the media player is all set up totally...just in case.

This page might help you in your troubleshooting --

Maybe check out -- "How do I tell what codecs I have installed on my computer?" To tell if .mp3 is missing - maybe corrupted? Puzzled as to why it isn't already working.

Thanks--i'll give it a try.  But i'll probably won't get a chance until tomorrow.

I'm having cutouts but I think that was in the show itself. Is your media player updating.

I checked the Media player and it seems fine and is updated.  I also see a mp3 codec.  So those don't seem to be the problem.

BUT I seem to have problems with my sound Card--could that make me get no sound in the archives?  If so, why would I get sound elsewhere?

ZomZom

I don't know the answer to that, but perhaps a workaround would be to try the AAC feed instead?

How would I go about doing that?

ZomZom

I don't think the archives have an AAC feed, but you can access the live stream by clicking the "External AAC Player" link here: http://darkmatterdigitalnetwork.com

Thanks--though I already get the live stream fine...unfortunately I can't listen live too much.

ZomZom

Sorry, I forgot that. Can you get the .mp3 live stream fine?
