Art Bell Time Travelers for $5 a month will only use Paypal

I paid with paypal, but I hope Keith considers many different ways to pay for subscriptions.  The more ways to pay, the more subscriptions there will be.

Seriously, guys? I've used Paypal for years. Never had an issue...

I foresee a Midnight In The Desert VISA card. An intentionally small two or three hundred dollar credit line, geared for purchases such as these...

Such a card's percentage charges kicking back some to MITD would guarantee constant funding. heh

How's your paranormal wallet, damn it?

I can help you get an issue if you want one. Go to a grocery store that has itemized receipts and buy a bottle of Shiraz wine (not Syrah!) with your Paypal debit card or direct account. You'll trip their OFAAC sanction algorithm due to Shiraz being a city name in Iran and you'll get a warning letter. Then do the same thing a second time and they will disable your account and keep the balance.

There are many ways to do this. Buy items on Ebay that contain Iranian, Cuban, Syrian, or North Korean city names and that'll do it. Or start collecting world coins and buy old, completely legal coins from any of those countries from completely legal sellers and you'll get it as well.

If they'd refund balances it would be different, but they don't. They just keep it and you have to sue them to get your money back. Paypal is an inherently dangerous and unethical service to use. Keep a minimal balance at all times.

Same here.  What is this, some kind of Dave diversion.  Get with the program or go home.  Damn bunch of cry babies.

Me either.
Speak for yourself. I tried to use innovative (not really just saw a potential flaw) strategy, mainly as a test, but also to avoid international currency xfer fees when it first came out, and was banned. "We are not a bank or a method of international money transfer" or some crap.... ;) NOT trying to break laws but, envisioning a way to get around usurious fees of normal wire xfers, currency exchange rates, and simply a test/method if paypal but, I think, oddly, when Ebay bought them, maybe coincidence also with regard to 911 stuff and everyone changing stuff they cracked-down, sent me email and letter, and then banned me (just because I wouldn't abide, or reply, and said 'screw it'" Idea was sound, and worked for, a bit though.  An well know internet gambling site also did same (as I used the same strategy with them.)

This. It's not that people don't want to use Paypal, though obviously there are many that don't want to. It's that YOU CAN'T use it under certain circumstances. If Albrecht were to try to sign up using the credit card he has on file with Paypal for the suspended account, he won't be able to because Paypal will not allow it even if it's a manual entry.  Don't believe me? Try it. Go to the page for MITD and manually input the number for the credit card that's associated with your paypal account and try to subscribe. Insanely, the gateway won't let you. There you go, instant problem for those who have never had a problem with paypal.

You just want to pay in Rogue Market Art Bell stock. Hater.

EarthAlien007

You don't need a PayPal account to do this.

Yeah, I'm getting emails from people having problems. PayPal needs to be a secondary payment option. The primary payment option should just be a credit card form where you plug in your billing info, and off you go.
Interestingly, c2c's coast insider subscription sign up page works as you describe.
You have an option to enter a regular credit card info (not via paypal) or a checking account direct info (account# and routing#)
Hopefully Keith will be adding these alternative payment methods in the next month?
Maybe he just put up the paypal method first to get something up quick for all the folks posting they want to pay early?

Me neither, in fact I always prefer paypal if its available at online sites - I figure its safer than directly entering a credit card number on multiple retail sites.
paypal accepts credit cards and debit cards for me.

I'm not super technical but it appears you need to have a PayPal account, or create one, to subscribe? That is the only method  :( ?

I was banned from PayPal and won't be joining it again even if I could. And creating a bogus account might be illegal so won't go that route.

Will there be a way to sign people up with a gift subscription?
So would there be a problem with giving your money to a friend who does have a paypal account and having them pay-like a gift sub?

Ditto. I love their customer service as well.

I've used PayPal for YEARS and never had a problem... in fact they helped me get my money back a couple of times.

We have quite the spectrum here - from "inherently dangerous" to excellent customer service.

So far, everyone is pretty much remaining in their respective corners. (don't want to tarnish pre registration day too soon)

Keith! You unintentionally divisive chaos cookie cutter bastard, you.

Well played, sir. Well played.

I haven't been this "on the edge of my seat" with forum anticipation since M and B were bludgeoning each other with pillowcases full of canned soda.

(and wasn't that scene from Bad Boys just the best? He walks over to the soda machine, calmly buys a brood of soda... and... and... )

There's definitely blood in the water. Imagine how the non signers feel each time someone chirps "done and done!" or "I'm a Time Traveler, now!"

And all the pop culture time travel references... It's gotta hurt.

It's like... well, it's like a ticking time traveler bomb waiting to flame on.

God I love this place. Sometimes for the wrong reasons.

I do not disagree- paypal is really just a criminal cartel.  The benefit of becoming a time traveler for only $5 / month is that I will just go to the future and hold paypal employees at gun point until they send messages to the past to unfreeze my account.  Once that action is complete, the event (the hostage taking) will never occur because my paypal account will never have been frozen in this timeline...

It is complicated, but I'm feeling pretty confident that so long as I don't get nabbed for the crime in the future, that I will stay out of prison in the present.

CJJames

I tried signing up for a sub and make a donation last night as soon as I got the email while I was eating dinner on the town, but I couldn't find a way to sign up using a credit card.

Today I tried again but PP wants me to connect it to the routing number of my bank. I don't want to involve my bank, and I have only given the routing number of my bank to the IRS at tax time. I want to pay by credit card. I bought stuff from Amazon and Lowes in the same session today using my credit card and my phone. No problem.

I date back to '78 with Art, and I think he would agree, having one way to pay and that way being one that is more complicated than giving a credit card number and pressing 'order' is not the way to go.

Keith, add a CC option to pay, please. Thank you. I want to give you and Art money.

I think it will take only 6 more people to post "Paypal is easy" and magically everyone either banned or refusing to use paypal will suddenly reform... I used paypal but understand not everyone wants to.

This should be the one place where you're not ridiculed on your beliefs/decisions unless you throw the first rock.

Just give the people more options.

indigoo

There's also Amazon Payments, and Stripe, though the latter seems a bit more work to integrate if you're not a developer? There's ways around using Paypal and hopefully the work to do so is being done.

Partially ashamed of my bellgab brethren.

Announcer 1: Wow, that was a very nice facesave. In such a volatile atmosphere, probably best to withdraw any type of judgmental passive aggressive statement ... especially from an extremely recent registrant! Whaddya think, Bob?

Announcer 2: Passive aggressive AND highly presumptuous, Phil! The poster has been a member for mere days and referred to the collective as his/her brethren! And is ashamed of them! Offensive stuff! This could have had disastrous consequences for the poster with BOTH sides of the Paypal match turning on HIM or HER!  A very wise move to withdraw! Shows some group dynamics savvy, even if slow on the uptake.

Announcer 1: We'll be right back after these commercial breaks from Hi-Speed catheters and Reverse Zombie Mortgages. Jesus, these commercials give me the creeps, Bob! Fucking predators! The willies, I tell ya!

Announcer 2: Hey, Phil! I USE those caths! Watch it!

Announcer 1: Hahahaha, so you do, Bob! So you do! But, Christ, don't give away your house, too!

Announcer 2: Hahahahahah! God, I love Bellgab! Praise slack!

Something has been changed. PP allowed me to use my CC and not involve a bank.  I'm now signed up.

Sent text to Snowden to piggyback a message to the NSA to stop interfering with the damned pledge drive. Might have helped. More likely some kind of verification glitch is toggling off and on. What a frustrating mess. I'm glad Keith got a running head start by pre registering the eager guinea pigs. Imagine having to iron out any wrinkles after the show initiated. I think almost everything will be resolved and almost everyone will be pleased by show time.

Wow, I'm honored. I edited that out within two minutes of originally posting. The fact it took you over an hour to craft your little skit-like response is admirable. Not the best father's day gift I received today, but up there. Have a great Sunday, Mr. Automat.

I'm sick of all this stuff just out of principle, in addition to the identity hacking and thefts. I use cash for all normal expenses and shopping and only use my accounts for major expenses but set up a separate account, with different PINS/access for certain recurring items. I don't know why we haven't gone to dual activation systems or "push" banking, instead of "pull", like most European countries had for many years but, whatever. But I don't see why the company, government, my bank, my credit union, etc need to know what I buy or what I do with my money (assuming, of course, that I'm not doing anything illegal by statute.)

I want another way to pay. AND, ideally, a way to send gift subscriptions. These days some random charity, etc can charge you when you send them a txt (SMS) message. And, increasing, in complexity or costs for each CC payments on smartphones, money orders, txt for payment, paypal-like systems, crytpo-currencies, electronic checks, wire xfers, etc etc etc. I know it is a lean operation. But still...I'll send cash even.

Ideally, in my world, payment (in whatever form) is received. You get a login number and password, randomly generated in your email or text. That is it. Doesn't have to be a real name, linked to a person, linked to anything like PayPal, etc. If you want to buy someone else a gift you pay and they get an email with name/pwd. THEN, if the people wish, they login to site and can modify their username etc for fast-blasts or social profiles.

But I'm not bitching, really, I happy we will have Art back and at least we got the free streaming and SW. I'm just saying: the more options to pay, maybe more revenue.

I agree wholeheartedly actually. I believe TPTB want a cashless society, and hence this is their way of forcing it upon mankind, mho.

I think Arts hands are tied though or he would setup another way of paying.

You're welcome. It only took five minutes of my exalted time, but to ensure anonymity of the poster I (truly) desired both time and distance between your post and mine to avoid adjacent association, so waited to send it up. I also wanted to wait past your edit window of time, because for all I knew, you may have decided to add the line back in, and my post would have been nonsensical.

I applaud your owning it!  (You did notice I didn't attribute it? I have to wonder. Because why take it out in the first place if you were willing to claim it?)

You want to believe you're witty and "in" and bullet proof? Great!

You goddamn cunt face newbie, you SHOULD feel honored.

Here three WEEKS and you are ashamed of people who have been members for years?

Fuck you. Fuck your name. Fuck your "hail fellow well met" bullshit. I invite you to delightfully choke on your shallow ineptitude, you bourgeois syphilis-infected cock sucker.

Happy Father's Day you son of a bitch! I do hope you're not as giant of a passive aggressive douche bag PUSSY around your kid(s). Though I find that difficult to believe.

And have a great Sunday yourself!
