The premise for the series is bullshit. If the South had successfully won the war, slavery would have likely ended in the 1880's or thereabouts anyway.  In the first world countries of the West, slavery had run its course.  The South may have been several decades behind the North in accepting the end of slavery but it would have ended.

I don't deny that but nevertheless slavery would have been abolished in every section of the continent by, at the latest, 1900.  Even in the South, it was on its way out albeit at a much slower pace than in the North.

Look at people like Nathan Bedford Forrest for example.  He had been one of the most recalcitrant and conservative leaders in the South during and shortly after the War. He evolved his position on slavery during his life and came to the conclusion that slavery was wrong.  I don't think you can credit his change to the South's loss in the Civil War. If anything he became more rebellious immediately after the Civil War when he was part of the Klan.  He turned on the Klan by 1872 and did his part to try to stamp it out.  I feel his transformation was indicative of how many in the South came to view slavery as the evil that it was.
