Say's  the most pirated talk-show host in broadcasting, [citation needed]. This isn't awkward at all.

We do want tight control of the Podcast, we are ready for volunteers, if you would like to help please contact Keith at kr@rowlandnet.com and help us with Podcast Pirates (mostly utube)

All of this may not be a problem anyway, I might be lucky to scare up 10,000 . We shall see

PS Besides who better to catch a Pirate then a Pirate? I am in the right place!

Nope. No pirates here. These aren't the droids you're looking for.

Keith,
The pennies are in the mail.

Funny, when Art was on SXM he was happy people re-broadcast the show over youtube. Now when he's on the hook for the entire thing, they want tight control. I completely agree that working for free or producing a commercial product for little revenue doesn't make sense. The world of arts is getting killed by this idea of "free".

That said, audio and video have been captured and reproduced for personal consumption since the beginning of recording. Whether it was bootlegs of 1960s concerts or direct recordings of full movies on YouTube, it is and will continue to happen. There is no possible way to fully protect media. And I fully intend on recording and sharing the live shows. I won't use YouTube though.

If that's true, then I'm anti-piracy.
The podcast is only one possible revenue stream. Somebody, Lt. Uhura (?), mentioned merchandising. Remember the "Art Bell Commemorative CDs"?

The Podcast isn't the revenue stream. It is the service / product. It's the thing that might **generate** a revenue stream and even then a revenue stream is not always a profit center. Generating $10,000/mo revenue when your capital and misc expenses are greater than $10,000/mo isn't a winning strategy. That's a net loss and is no better than me doing a basement podcast on computer mic with no revenue stream. Derived revenue in broadcast media is three-fold:
1. Ad time and ad placement. (commercials, site banners, voice-over spots)
2. Broadcast and syndication rights. (distribution beyond direct, live transmission of content)
3. Content and trademark licencing. (anything with a logo, anything using a likeness or content from the show)

It's like any business venture except that podcasting is even easier to project P&L because expenses and distribution are so straight forward. That's a big reason why I did a **snert** when Art was talking about all this money he is pouring into this venture up front. We all know what it actually takes to run a call-in podcast.

Align expenses with those three things above and piracy is a virtual non-issue with live talk radio.
