On the International Line

For those of you that didn't have access to Art on the radio I want to know how did you find Art Bell?

Did you stumble upon him on the net or did you hear him when you were in the United States?

Personally I found Art's website when I wad surfing for information on UFOs in the mid to late 90s. I clicked a link in an article and it took me to ArtBell.com. I saw a button that said Listen Live and the rest is history. I was so enthralled by Art, his voice, the subject matter (i think it was a topic on chupacabras). I'd never heard of a chupacabra but it had me hooked. I went back again and again and again.

So fellow international liners tell us your story.

Edit: oh and tell us where you are from. I'm in the UK.

Back in the mid nineties when I first got the net (dial-up) I was searching and listening to radio stations from all over the world. I was listening to some show on KOGO out of San Diego. The show I was listening to finished and I was busy doing some homework when the now familiar theme of The Chase came on and as the OP said the rest is history. I can't even remember what that show was about but I made sure to listen the next night (afternoon for me) and then the next and then the next. I soon found Art's site and I too was hooked.

In Australia we have no programming like that on our airwaves so this was the equivalent to me striking gold.

Every since that day I've been along for the ride and I'm thrilled to be joining Art for another one.

Thanks for the story Dave. Which city in Oz are you from? Are we the only international Art Bell fans? Surely there are more of us.

I'm from Sydney not far from the famous Bondi Beach.

I'm pretty sure there are a few more vaguely lovable internationals. Jaz is but I haven't seen him post in awhile.

In the mid-90's, long before I had a computer, I found, by a happy accident of geography, that a car had fallen into an intersection in California--- Art Bell's open lines!! The program boomed out of Houston, across the Gulf, dodging volcanoes to reach my analog radio in the high plateau of Mexico. I have only had a computer since 2009 and adore the gigantic library that is the internet.

I am delighted Art will be back- with so many options including for cyberdinosaurs like me.

I was born in England, I am now Canadian and I have lived in Mexico for the past 41 years. I have family in Canada, Australia, England, Sweden, Mexico and Spain-- World Cup in soccer I don't know who to cheer for!!

I'm surprised there aren't any more international Art Bell fans in here. I always thought he had a big following overseas. There were always callers on the international line.

I was introduced to Art when I briefly lived in Florida for a couple of years in the mid-90s. I was a stoner insomniac so Art was perfect company for me.

I was delivering newspapers overnight in 1996 when one of our local AM stations started carrying Art. The first show I heard was with Graham Hancock on his first C2C appearance about his Fingerprints of the Gods book, and I was hooked. Hancock was/is one of the guests Art had a great rapport with.

I'm from Poland and I'm a huge Art Bell fan

I already wrote about my first experiences with his shows, so I won't repeat myself, but the short story is: Prey computer game. Coast to Coast AM torrents with Dave. Coast to Coast torrents with Art's weekend shows. Somewhere in Time torrents. Art Bell retires in 2010, I find CoastGab

It's hard to listen to such shows live because it's usually around 4 a.m. when they start, but I will try and listen to Midnight in the Desert live whenever possible. And when not possible, I will pay the $5 subscription for the archives

I don't know anyone locally who would know who Art Bell is... so I fell kind of special
