Putin is on the Autism Spectrum?

Potentially.

That could go some way to explaining his behaviour, I guess.

Putin makes more sense when he speaks than ANY western leader.. logic goes a long way past lying, dodging questions and subterfuge..

Kelt

Putin's ex-KGB, and not only a willing but enthusiastic supporter of one of the most vicious, oppressive, murderous regimes of the 20th Century... and considering the competition that's pretty horrendous... and his sincere wish is to return to the authoritarianism of the Soviet system.

If you think he's not just as much a lying sociopath as our own leaders then you're  kidding yourself.

Why is the Pentagon releasing a psychiatric diagnosis of a world leader, based solely on assumptions, to the media? I think it's propaganda, but I don't see what they gain from it.

Nor do I. Autism is already stigmatized, so let's add a murderous tyrant to the mix.
Thanks Obama.

It's propaganda without a shadow of a doubt.  We're preparing to give the Ukranians offensive weapons and, if it does come to that, then we need to understand that Putin is the 'bad guy'. Suggesting he has developmental problems would be in line with diminishing him in the eyes of the public. Gotta get the plebs on board

However, propaganda or not, Autism might explain some of his bizarre behaviour. And even though I've seen people dismiss the notion I'm not so sure the 'diagnosis' doesn't have a degree of merit.

But yeah, it's certainly propaganda, whether based in reality or not.

You have to admit, it's a very weird way to demonize someone...

Kelt

That would depend. Does the general public think of Autism as being a spectrum of problems from the very minor right up to Rain Man?

I think if you mention Autism to most people they immediatley envision Forrest Gump talking about chocolate and running really fast.  And while liking chocolate and running really fast are sort of positives being Forrest Gump is probably a negative.  And if you can have people equating Putin to Forrest Gump then you're probably doing a decent job of.. I wouldn't say demonising... but you're probably doing a decent job of casting aspersions on Putin's credibility as a world leader.

Ukraine is like a box of chocolates.

Behold Tsar Vladimir I.  If the oligarchs haven't gotten rid of him by now, he's got them by the short hairs too, and is in power for good.  He isn't going to give up on retaking Ukraine. Any of the ex-Soviet "republics" with a Russian-speaking population better watch it.  Good thing we didn't let McCain jam Ukraine into NATO.
