Yes!  Talk about your made for getting drunk TV!  My only problem with it is that I need subtitles, because I don't understand British very well and can't decipher some of the dialogue. 

I still haven't seen the new episodes they did a couple of years ago.  Have you, and do you know if they're available on-line?  Thanks!

I have, only because I own them all.  Couldn't find them online, so bought a Korean bootleg of all the episodes.  Love me some Eddie & Pats.

Have you ever seen Jane "Bubble" Horrock's movie, Little Voice?  She does some amazing singing in it, and Michael Caine is tremendous as a sleazy small time promoter.

...Speaking of drinking heavily and SF, have you ever been to The Saloon in North Beach?  Found it by happy accident while there about fifteen years ago, and had a most memorable evening.  At the time, it had to be just about the best dive bar in the country--friendly people, a hot blues band, and super stiff drinks for less than half of what other places charged.  Can't beat that combination!

Actually yes, and true story it was one of the very first places I had a drink or three in SF, and it was just as you describe!  This would have pre-dated your night there by a few years though.  Have no idea how it is now or even if it's still there.  Many a night though was spent lounge-crawling through North Beach and nearby Chinatown, ending the night at some noodle-house at 2am trying to mop up the night's excesses.

Yeah, but you don't need to drink because they are funny and well written and acted. I'm thinking, I might be wrong here, that shows that "best to get drunk to" are ones that watching sober one would be turning off, shaking their head saying "how could this get produced?," etc. Which is why the Mexican tv is nominated by me.

As much as I love the Brit shows previously mentioned (along with Blackadder of course), I think I have to agree with albrecht on this.

Shows which don't require much attention/brain power to enjoy seem to pair well with alcohol.  Think Finding Bigfoot.

Never Finding Bigfoot is more like it. I'll admit, I could only make it through 1 or 2 episodes. I wasn't drunk, so maybe alcohol is the missing link.

You may have hit on an additional factor.  The best boozy shows are ones you can step away from to grab a beer, or heat up a microwave burrito, or make an ill-advised call to an ex-girlfriend ... then come back to find you didn't really miss anything, and can just jump right back in.  This would explain why soccer games work great too.

We were in SF for just a few days, and that was the only one we spent bar hopping, although we did go to North Beach Pizza another night. Luckily, we had to hop only once to find The Saloon.  Our first stop was a place the concierge recommended, but after an $8 cocktail (this was 2001), we didn't stick around.  After a couple of minutes of wandering, wondering what we were going to do next, we saw the sign, took a chance, and once we were inside, heard the band, and received what were essentially doubles for $3.50, we felt no need to go anywhere else.  Much like your NB experiences, we wound up at a greasy little Thai place down the street from our hotel.  Good times!

BTW, do you remember the bathroom in The Saloon?  I recall it being a tiny cave hacked out of the rock under the building, with a couple of stone steps and a doorway that was about five feet high with no door.  I imagine more than a few drunks have taken a tumble trying to get into it.

Well recently I played a Drinking game listening to Bellgab. Every time it cut out I took a drink.. As for a TV show I would say anything FOX News network, MSNBC, or CNN. But to be really any show on TV!!1

Monk we may have crossed paths back then, as that was my era in SF and I occasionally went to both places ... the former for the pina coladas, the latter for the retro-hip vibe. 

Another haunt of the time was the 500 Club which had the best jukebox.  I also miss the Edinburgh Castle, with that great scotch selection and fish n' chips you could get delivered from around the corner.
