Nerding out on Leonard Nimoy's In Search Of

Someone mentioned In Search Of which totally gave me a nostalgasm. This show was some of my earliest exposure to the paranormal/offbeat as a kid. As an adult, I watched through them again about a year ago and was amazed that they still hold up really well and I'd say they're probably the best TV Show in it's genre ever made. Everything about the show from it's incredible stories to the cool 70s electronic music to Nimoy's dry hosting/narration was excellent.

I think most of the episodes are up on Youtube if you're interested or you've never seen it.

Definitely was a cool show that impressed me at a young age. It had this eerie mysterious quality which got me hooked. I think the weird music it had was part of that. Topics that were on it like the Nazca Lines, Bermuda Triangle, Easter Island, etc. I'm still interested in today. Thanks for the youtube tip, I'll have to, as you say, "nerd out" on a few old episodes.

This was a great show. I think In Search Of and those cheap paperback Ripley's Believe It or Not were my favorite of the old stuff.

Totallly awesome show!! Most of today's paranormal "professionals" grew up on that show. Also check out Arthur C. Clarks World of strange powers. That is another series that got me hooked to the genre.

Loved 'In Search Of', I'm a total Nimoy fanboy. "I AM Spock" is still one of my favourite books, and if you can get it on audio then so much the better.

I also liked, 'Arthur C Clarke's Mysterious World', which was very similar in format.

It's only in retrospect that you realise just how hokey much of it was, but as a form of escapism for kids, and as a format to get young minds working, they're fantastic shows.

Would love to hear Nimoy host some C2C... but I think, after Nimoy hosted, the Noor would just seem much, much worse.

I loved those Ripley paperbacks also. Also, the "Stranger Than Science" etc paperback books by Frank Edwards. "In Search Of" was a good show, still remember being riveted watching to the Bermuda Triangle episode.

Ha, I didn't remember the Ripley's paperbacks until you mentioned them but man those were awesome! I had those and Mad Magazines books by the box full.

I was so lucky as a kid, I got to go to the Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum a few times. Great times.

Stranger than Science was great also.
In Search Of Amelia Earhart was probably my favorite of the ISO series (that I remember). I'm going to look up the Bermuda Triangle show on youtube.

Yeah. Essentially Nimoy addresses this in I AM Spock, explaining that he was stunned by the negative response to 'I Am NOT Spock'. The fanboys railed against his attempt to distance himself from the Spock character, no actor wants to be stereotyped and pigeon-holed. Since then he has acknowledged and apparently embraced the fact that, like it or not, he is now a cultural icon throughout the world.

Nimoy seems like one of those intense actors who takes any role seriously. While Shatner was hamming Kirk up and having a lot of fun doing so, Nimoy was treating the role of Spock with gravitas.

Kirk is still my favourite Captain, and Spock is by far and away my favourite 'straight man'.

Ripley's Believe it or not museum in St. Augustine, Florida .I remember the full Human 'hides' of Japanese origin fully tattooed . Very bazaar exhibit.
Right after the first cancellation of Star Trek (1967?). I was going to Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida. Nimoy was flying his own plane and was on his way to guest star some game show produced in south Florida and had learned what fans of his existed at FIT and made a stop at Melbourne . We learned of the visit less than an hour before he got to the school. We managed to get the word out and filled the auditorium. He also had a communication at the auditorium that the show was renewed.
It was a cool event at the time.
