There is a Pollo Loco here but I have never been. It is drive-thru only but smells good. It doesn't appear to be the Pollo Loco I've seen in the news and doesn't appear to be a franchise location of a national chain. I could be wrong but it seems very low budget and almost homemade paint scheme. Alas, it is near a Golden Chick and so doesn't get my fried chicken business.

I'm afraid a Mexican entrepreneur is going to be sued soon. Although, maybe, it will come up spades for him and his "Pollo Loco" shack existed before the national franchising chain! It is an easy name and I'm sure used many times before ("crazy chicken" en espanol.) Golden Chick still gets my business though because they sometimes have gizzards, livers, and other fried specialty items. And darn good fried chicken!

Shawn Simpson, who hadn’t heard of the talks until approached by a reporter while he was at a Burger King in New York City on Monday afternoon, said he didn’t like the idea of the company paying its taxes to another country.

“For them to take their headquarters and move it across the border is a negative for me,” said Simpson, 44, who was ordering a Double Whopper and onion rings. “It’s an American brand.”

The US is the only country that taxes corporations on their world wide income (with tax credits for taxes paid to other countries).  It also has the highest corporate tax rate among industrialized countries at 35%.

What these companies often do is set up subsidiaries in the other countries they conduct business in.  Any profits earned offshore are retained there, instead of being remitted back to the parent company in the US in the form of dividends.  The US tax is not applied to the overseas profits until they are remitted to the US Parent.

Some companies have billions trapped overseas.  For Apple, it's been awhile, but last time I checked it was around $100 Billion

If the parent relocates and officially becomes a foreign corporation, the US would only tax the profits earned in the US, their new foreign government would only tax them for profits they earned in that country, and the overseas subs would continue to tax only the profit made in those individual countries.


There is a little more to it - some of them have become adept at moving the profits around, for example Apple created a subsidiary someplace like the Caymans as a holding company for their intellectual property (patents, etc).  For any sale anyway in the world, the sub that sells an Apple item pays the Cayman sub a royalty, which has the effect of shifting a good chunk of Apple's profits there.  There are other more complex strategies.  Some of this gets to the point of being abusive, and this is part of what the Congress should be looking at.
