"The shrinking of the Arctic ice sheet in the upcoming 10th edition of the National Geographic Atlas of the World is one of the most striking changes in the publication's history, geographers say.

"The reduction in multiyear iceâ€"commonly defined as ice that has survived for two summersâ€"is so noticeable compared with previous editions that National Geographic Geographer Juan José Valdés calls it "the biggest visible change other than the breakup of the U.S.S.R."

"As the ocean heats up due to global warming, Arctic sea ice has been locked in a downward spiral. Since the late 1970s, the ice has retreated by 12 percent per decade, worsening after 2007, according to NASA. May 2014 represented the third lowest extent of sea ice during that month in the satellite record, according to the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC)."

In addition to that a new study from JPL and the University of Washington Seattle looked at how much snow topped our arctic ice and came to the conclusion that we are seeing accumulations of between one-third to half as much as 50 years ago.

The Arctic ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot, according to a report to the Commerce Department yesterday from Consul Ifft, at Bergen, Norway.

Reports from fishermen, seal hunters and explorers, he declared, all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard-of temperatures in the Arctic zone. Exploration expeditions report that scarcely any ice has been met with as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes. Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream still very warm.

Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared. Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts, which have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds.

Is it any wonder that people, currently shoveling snow out of their driveways from another epic storm, question Al Gore Jr and the "warming" crowd? Besides the leaked emails we always get these stories and explanations that data needs to be "adjusted." Of course always adjusted to fit the narrative desired.
I guess this goes for economic numbers also (recall how many times, often months later, they come out and "readjust" the numbers for economic statistics.)

But, obviously, it is expected for the leftists to resort to juvenile ad-hominems and not discuss why "adjusting" data- whether in weather records or in economic data released for political purposes- is ok or a good thing. At least one would expect some reasoning for the "adjustments" but, of course, simple insults are the easier way to go. If the numbers don't work for the agenda simply cook them a bit or change them later! (And the so-called progressives complain about Wall St or Enron!)
