Be prepared for George's homily on this tonight. See- Ouija boards are dangerous! I bet the girls involved will give birth to mean babies some day.  ;)

I'm sure George will mention this prominently in his bungled, garbled way. "See I told you so." Considering the birthrate and general lack of contraception down there we better be prepared for lot of "mean babies." This boggles my mind- your kid is numb, shaking, convulsing, etc yet "parents said they had called paramedics after a local Catholic priest refused to perform an exorcism..."

Good points, Albrecht! Such a contrived feel to the story- were they covering up some self medicating gone wrong? Yeah- always think demons first.  ;D

This is not an isolated incident. Anectodal evidence abounds concerning these boards. This is necromancy plain and simple. God did not forbid this just to "ruin your fun". This invites demons into you, just as dracula had to be given permission to step past the threshold. Heaven and hell are real. So are death and taxes. Rejecting either because you do not like the reality does not change the reality.

Hi Ruteger, I don't think we've met.  :) I'm not trying to belittle your beliefs, but the Ouija board, dowsing rods, and pendulums demonstrate the Ideomotor phenomenon. Not sure how receptive you are to Penn and Teller, but they did a whole show about it and tested the theory by blindfolding the participants and turning the board over, etc. It wouldn't work when they couldn't see the letters. They have it posted on Youtube if you're interested.

Considering that a vast majority of our movement daily is done unconsciously (breathing, blinking, scratching, heartbeats, fidgeting, reacting to a quick stimuli, etc) this explanation above would not surprise me. Nor would it surprise me if someone who "really believes" in something, especially in something as important to a person as religion, could also "become possessed" simply by thinking with tinkering with "dark arts" would result in that and so they begin to manifest symptoms of "possession." On the other hand the "believers" seeing the reactions and changed behavior could also attribute that to really being "possessed." So I could see how an "exorcism" could work in a "believer." Placebo effect or power of suggestion, etc.

Wait, wait, wait... you are telling me that all that shit is in my head?
And Milton Bradley didn't put a spirit, ghost, demon in a piece of cardboard for me to play with?
Damnit, and I thought I was being nice cracking open my magic 8 ball and letting the spirit free. :(

Next you'll be telling me there is some invisible man in the sky that sees everything I do, and judges me.
And if I don't please him he will let scary monsters drag me deep underground that torture me forever.

George talked about the story again tonight with some woman. Can't remember her name, but she gave a reasonable explanation of the questions that should have been asked and said that these stories get sensationalized. There may have been drug use. The kids might have had some pre-existing medical or psychological condition that was the cause of their behaviour.

Now was that so hard to be rational and ask sensible questions using critical thinking?  ;)

Okay.  But we will all find out in the end.  Some of us are wrong and some of us aren't.  Heaven and Hell.  I believe they are real.  If I'm wrong, I'll never know it.  If I'm right....well, we'll all know it.

With the universe being incomprehensible, just as we know it now, why would anyone think an afterlife would follow such mundane rules as laid out by people that had/have no experience themselves?

Starvation, brutality, rape, murder, slavery, kidnapping, and other atrocities... but ouija boards are the gateway for this satan guy. OK.

Because: by now, some given afterlife must be populated with people who grew up in, say for example, the Vietnam War era, and now... hunger for vengeance.

Back when I was writing the universe simulation on my Commodore 64 and trolling BBSs via dialup on my minty fresh 1200 baud modem, I got bored and started smoking crack...

--OUT DEAMON, OUT!  That victim of the '80's is past!  Crack was hardly invented then!--

There I go trolling my own posts again, apologies, I need to get back to that Luigi Bored, ninetento game again...

Disregard...

I'm listening to "The Unexplained" radio show with Howard Hughes (not that Howard Hughes) about the famous Enfield Poltergeist case. Guest investigator mentions, briefly, that a ouija board was the start of it and that children shouldn't play with one.

Well that clears that up, thank goodness.
What about the many thousands/millions of cases where people/children play with wee-jee boards and nadda, zip, zilch, zero happens?

I'm more worried about lightning, or "blue ice" striking someone than ouija spooks.
And I'd rather children play with ouija any day, in place of playing with booze, drugs, and traffic at a young age. Real things that can harm, or kill them.
BUT... BUT THINK OF THE CHILDREN!  ::)

Yeah, I would reckon the only danger is if you actually believe in them. Certainly there are greater dangers for kids, as you mention. But look at that "slenderman" killing. Doesn't exist but on some internet chatroom and some little girls obsess and believe and then try to murder a friend. I guess if someone really thought a ouija board would "bring out demons into him" and then played with one he could go mental. But that is more of a problem with the person, not the cardboard sheet!

And if it wasn't a ouija board, or Slender Man, it would be a vida game, movie, book, insert outside stimulus here. Some people are more susceptible than others to all kinds of things. You can't nerf the world for the least common denominator. And it's just silly to blame inanimate objects for peoples thoughts and actions. Although the inanimate objects MIGHT be a contributing factor, maybe. The object is just the pathway to a destination, a destination you can arrive at through many different paths, if you have certain predispositions. Get rid of one "bad" thing, and those who are already on the edge will find something else to "push them over the edge."  Where would it all end? Witch hunt anyone? Sigh.

Personally I don't want to live in a plain white sterile walled garden, with rounded corners. That is the formula for a Mac product, not the real world. At least a world worth living in. Despite what Steve Jobs desired.

In G2G 2003 Art had good caller about a Mexican ouija board story from caller. In old Mexico it is called oui-ha btw. Some drunk guy cursed board n asked it when he would die. His girlfriend was crying n told him to stop. But he was drunk. Board said "tonight". He got hit and killed that truck that night. Art advised he had own experience with ouija board but refused to go into it. But he advised against it and asking things into this world. He also said he knew "Tijuana well". And I thought his bent was more for Asians. Haha.

As I recall the chant is "Burro! Burro! Burro!" and the disgusting show takes place in Nuevo Laredo zona. Btw, does anyone know what bad "ouija experience" Art had? And why he wouldn't talk about it?

Here's what happened to me. I don't blame you if you don't believe it, I know I sure as hell wouldn't. But it happened.
I wasn't a believer in the Ouija board (or anything supernatural, ghosts, etc)  but when I was a teenager friends and I used to get it out during once summer and have sessions. Most of the time the person on the other side of the board from me was my best friend, a Latino. I would say he was quite superstitious.

I won't go into all the events of that summer but I will say one particular night with a house full of spectators the board was really lively. It was telling us the serial numbers off dollar bills that people were holding in their hands across the room. And it apparently was making a dog outside stop and start barking on command. We said to it, initially, "make that dog stop barking!"it said, "in exchange for your soul."my friend and I weren't about to make such a blanket agreement but a young woman in the room (a neighbor) said "I don't believe in that shit, I'll do it."so for the next 10 or 15 minutes we were making the dog stop or start barking on command.(Or else it was one hell of a coincidence).

Now here's the verbatim events I set out to relate:
Me:"is anything going to happen to Jesse or me tonight?" (My friends name is Jesse. Granted this was a leading question)
Ouija board: simply said "yes".
Me: "what is going to happen?"
Ouija board: "bleed."
Me: "What is going to bleed?"
Ouija board:"Eye".
Me: "Whose eye?"
Ouija board: "Jesse".
Me: "why will his eye bleed?"
Ouija board: "rock".

At this point we were all spooked. Someone let out a nervous giggle and the planchette started moving in a circle. It began to circle faster and faster, faster than I had ever seen it move and it flew off the board. There was a lit candle in the room and suddenly the Candleflame grew to a height of about 8 inches. Not the whole flame but just the very tip. I watched it as it undulated.

At this point, our bravado broken, we got spooked and put it away. A couple hours past, we try to be jovial and take our minds off it. Eventually, around midnight, I was going to leave and give Jesse a ride home on the back of my motorcycle. About halfway to his house I was going down a long hill and there was a sudden commotion on the back. He was yelling "stop, stop". So I pulled to a stop which just happened to be under a streetlight. He reached his hand over my right shoulder and I could see  blood on his fingers. I Yelled, "what happened?"
He said, "I thought I felt my crucifix move (the one he had on a chain around his neck) and it actually fell off. So I reached down for it and a rock flew up and hit me in the eye. I remember it was one of those wild windy summer nights, the air was filled with ozone.

I swear to God this actually happened. I would take a lie detector test without reservation. This unnerved me some for years but I think I figured out a prosaic explanation. I won't prolong this but it has to do with the power of the subconscious mind. In this case Jesse's. Well, except for one thing, how did his subconscious mind make that rock fly up? Not to mention the prediction of the event itself. One thing I'm sure of, it wasn't a hoax. I trust Jesse with my life. He wouldn't have Hoechst that. This still leaves the matter of the Ouija board reading the serial numbers off the dollar bills and a few other matters.

Good story and better than many of the callers. You need to call into C2C or G2G with that tale. Who knows I tend to believe the power of the mind (basically if you believe something hard enough you will find associations, find patterns where there might be none, or even make it happen in an unconscious way.) It isn't like folks haven't been hit in the eye with stuff on a motorcycle but, then again, as George would say (many times even in the same show) there are no coincidences. Call it in. Better than stuff we usually hear these days on the show.

Tarbaby

Thanks, Albrecht. I have thought of calling it in to some show but never have although I did post it all on another forum some years ago. I wouldn't call it in to Noory but I might do Dave Shrader.

paladin1991

Tbabe.  that's a hell of a story.  I played with a ouija board once.  Just once.  Fuck that shit.

nextgen.fm

my friend did it once and asked it how old she was and it flat out told her

also told her ages of people she didn't even know...
