Hurray! Wait... what?
Not much of an announcement actually.
I'm not getting too excited until I hear him on the air next year.
A lot can go wrong between now and then.
Especially with his track record.  I'm not counting on him sticking around long.  I just hope he doesn't quit before he starts.

I think his qualms with Sirius will plague him 10x broadcasting online. Low call volume and the same callers repeatedly, stream issues, etc... I don't see how any of that changes. Seems it would just be worse.

So we know when he's starting.  Has he announced when he's quitting?

The over / under is 6 weeks.  Unless cell phone reception gets considerably better over the next 12 months, bet the under.

I agree MV.  One wrong thing and I can see Art heading for the exit again, especially after watching the Sirius escapade. Sad.  It just seems to be his nature.

Agreed. I don't enjoy being so negative and pessimistic about a new show, but it seems to be a chronic occurrence, sadly.
I wonder what the official excuse will be when/if he quits. He can't blame the broadcasting industry or corporate overloards, or can he.
Health issues, low listener numbers or small caller base is a good bet.

I think it'll be something along the lines of, "Well, folks, this internet broadcasting experiment has run its course and I'm not sure it's going to be viable to continue. It was a good run, I did enjoy it while it lasted, I thank you all, and perhaps we'll meet again some time, somewhere. From the High Desert, I'm Art Bell. Good night."

I forgot to add, getting quality guests will be tougher. George Carlin caliber guests are not likely to jump at the chance to appear on an internet radio show with hundreds instead of millions of live listeners.

Adding to the Debbie Downer dog pile.
It will be all uphill on all counts he quit Sirius over.
Other unforeseen issues, like pulling in good guest to do a interweb stream, podcast X nights a week.

C2C biggest draw for guest is the exposure they get. As big as C2C is, it seems they have a hard time booking good guest.

We all like Art. The man can do a longform interview like few others in the TV/radio industry can. He's the best longform interviewer I've ever heard. But that may not be enough to pull good guest night after night. Hope I'm wrong.

Perhaps if Art tried a completely new approach.

I would like to hear a radio show in Morse code.

I would like to hear a radio show in Morse code.

I recall solving one of Kit Williams' visual puzzles in 1979 or 1980.

He had painted a mouse blurred into a horse and a cat blurred into a toad.

I don't see why he can't do something similar to tom lykis. He streams and gets plenty of listners, also has diverse caller base.

I think Art can pull of a stream. He should try and pick up some radio affiliates though, there is no reason he can't do that. Just offer the show up for cheap.

Art and Alan offered C2C to the affiliate stations essentially for free. They used what is known as the Barter System.

C2C would get a certain amount of time allotted to them at the tops and bottoms of the hours to sell space for their commercials at whatever prices they wanted to ( it seems like it was mostly to Bob and the C. Crane Company), and the affiliate stations could do the same with the time that they were allotted at the tops and bottoms of the hours during the show.

I thought it worked out pretty good because there were no quarter hour commercial breaks. And as C2C's audience share grew according to the Nielsen Radio Diary Service  Ratings; the more both C2C and it's affiliate stations could charge for the vast audience exposure that they could give to the products that they promoted.

Of course that is why radio show hosts like to announce it when new affiliate radio stations come aboard during their broadcast time slots.

Nielsen Rating Shares =  Commercial $$$$$ = More Money for the Hosts :D

Is his new wife asthmatic? Let's hope not.

Considering what comes out of Noory's mouth every night, I'd settle for simple English.

I just don't understand why this was announced on a podcast by a third party and not by Art himself. Art was always at the forefront of new technologies but he has a severe lack of knowledge when it comes to making use of social media. If he used social media properly he could have used the 2 years on the sidelines to build his fan base by engaging with them on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and through artbell.com.

Making annoucemebts through obscure podcasts just doesn't cut it and will only harm him come d-day when only tens of us are listening.

Maybe this was a ploy by Keith to see how much Jimmy's stream traffic would go up if they teased an announcement? I dunno. But I agree, it was odd.

What if Art had the usual listener-interaction venues (phone, Skype, e-mail, fax, remote viewing) and added a chat room for questions? It would probably get mobbed (so he'd need moderators). But it would increase user interaction. OR he could just keep Bellgab open for the show.  ;D

I agree. Sure, I'd like to see him return, but I'm not getting my hopes up this time. I will never agree with his reasoning for quitting Sirius after only a few weeks. He expects perfection and high numbers right out of the gate, and that's simply not going to happen with internet streaming/podcasting.

not to mention the fact that he hasn't broadcasted regularly for well over a decade, so his name recognition isn't what it once was.  the babies who were born on the day of his first "real" retirement (april 2000) are now 14 years old and will be driving soon.

ART BELL coming back in July 2015, great now I can prepare for a let down. Another 3 month stint and it's over again.

All doable, but it takes time to build things back up again. Time I don't think he's willing to invest.

Actually I read that announcement a day earlier posted by Art at his personal facebook page - so thats where he posts now.
Jimmy Church apparently just heard about the upcoming news from Keith Rowland who Art probably told a few days before Art posted the news on facebook.

Didn't jimmy say the news was going to be announced Wed. and failed to deliver until Thrus.
What time did art post this? After 9pm PST Wed.
Seems strange Jimmy would  hold off the announcement unless he was asked to wait by Keith, or he didn't have the info until after air on Wednesday.

Edit: I'm not trying for a CT here, I'm just confused by the timing of events.

No.  Jimmy said that Keith told him that Art would make an announcement on Wednesday.  The idea that Art would make an announcement on Jimmy's show was one of the Nooryisms that infests this forum occasionally.
Art did make his announcement on Facebook on Wednesday.  Jimmy repeated it on Thursday.

Thanks.
I beginning to think the internet isn't a reliable source for accurate information.
Say it ain't so!! ;)

Inspired by the great Art Bell, I also would like to make an announcement. On August 15th, 2014 I plan on having a chicken dish of some sort between 6-9pm West Eastern Summer Time.
