On the recommendation from a friend:

Evil Roy Slade (1972)

It was OK. TV movie made two years before Blazing Saddles and not quite as funny, but not bad. Lots of TV star power in it.
Yes. "Mr. Addams" in it and I have a love for old tv movies and 'movies of the week.' Saw Rogue One due to youngsters into it. Ok. Loud. I've lost continuity of the series but this one was easier to figure out and was ok. Theater sold beer and had new big seats so no worries.

Watched earlier one of my favorite movies "Reversal of Fortune." About the infamous von Bulow case and, now, famous attorney (who interestingly was on flight-manifests with Bill on the Lolita Express!) But aside from the case- Jeremy Irons is so FUCKING good in this role. And his new girlfriend "life-saver" is really excellent actress in a short, minor supporting role- but effective for the movie! The whole 'upper class' stuff. "Hire the Jew, I said." etc. And "the Jew" attorney actors also does a good job showing the evoquation etc of the case and not understanding the rich, upper-class WASPish society and lifestyle. The children actors were also a sympathic case. Under acted and like good child should be, seen not heard, etc. The locations were outstanding. And the whole deal, case, locations, staging, and actors is so darn good. My reviews are more stream-of-conciousness than others like 21. Haha.

Saw Rogue One, overall fairly decent and enjoyable. First part of the movie seemed to jump around a lot, but the thing I found most off putting was the whole "let's recreate a long dead actor in cgi" thing. It was super distracting, and they probably could've made the film work just as well without doing it.
Some stuff you wonder why they went with cgi when the original films accomplished better results with practical effects (eg AT ATs, the rebel base).

Rewatched the 90s Men in Black film, has made me want to find a copy of the comic it was based on.

The Drop. If you liked John Wick, you might like this one. James Gandolfini's last movie.

I just watched the original Black Christmas from 1974. It is a pretty good slasher flick that has minimal gore.  The acting talent was impressive.  Olivia Hussey, Keir Dullea, Margot Kidder, John Saxon and Andrea Martin of SCTV fame were all very good.  It was a bit slow in the first half but picked up the pace in the last half hour or so.  Some have called it the first slasher flick though The Texas Chainsaw Massacre came out about the same time.  I think this was made first though.  Doesn't matter anyway because neither of them are the first slasher flick.  That honor falls to Mario Bava's A Bay Of Blood from 1971.  Some argue that Psycho was the first but the fact of the matter is only two people are killed in the flick and only one of them was premeditated.  Of course if you want to be technical, Thirteen Women from 1932 could be considered a slasher flick due to the high body count and so could any number of films afterwards particularly the giallos but really they aren't.  A Bay of Blood came from the giallo tradition but the gore was quite extreme and the setting of an isolated cabin by a lake sets the stage for later films like Friday the Thirteenth.

Anyway back to the subject at hand, Black Christmas is a slasher film with some gruesomeness but really the blood is minimal and only just enough for it to fall in the slasher genre.  Hussey plays the lead very well but I really have to give the best performance to Kidder.  She is so outrageous in her lasciviousness and vulgarity.  The movie really comes to life during her scenes. The ending works but it is a bit anticlimactic.  I must give a lot of credit to the director for his work here.  His name is Bob Clark and he was better known for his Christmas perennial, A Christmas Story, as well as Porkys.  To think this film and A Christmas Story came from the same director.  Unbelievable.  I bet that is a Trivial Pursuit question. Anyway,  I give it a healthy 3.5 stars out of 5.

So I went ahead and watched John Wick (2014). Watching it confirmed my personal bias against Keanu Reeves as an actor. I just can't get past his blank, vacuous facial expressions. But it wasn't a bad movie as far as shoot-em-ups go.

From there I went ahead and watched  The Equalizer (2014) as suggested by IMDB. The Denzel Washington character was a little flat. But maybe all ex CIA operatives are. I really liked the Marton Csokas character and I've had a crush on Chloë Grace Moretz since forever--she didn't get much screen time. Maybe they didn't want her evoking too many Hit-Girl vibes. Hit-Girl would have fucked those Rusky's up.

For a double-feature, the two movies paired well perhaps but maybe too much alike.

Currently watching The Drop (2014).

I'm only 20 minutes in and I'm worried about that poor puppy.

I'm sure the readers of BellGab are quite familiar with the way Hollyweird and The Media are in bed with the Liberal Global Elitist politicians.

I just finished watching 3 different 2014 "big" Hollywood movies using the Russians (fuck Putin) as the bad guys...hmm.

Naw...that's just crazy talk to think that they might have been some sort of social engineered project to get us sheeple to hate the Russian...

Yeah...I'm just going off the deep end.

From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) -- currently available on Netflix

I generally say I'm not a big fan of horror, but I guess I am, I liked it.

From there I watching the Netflix series.

From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series (2014-)

I'm actually enjoying the series better than the movie. Weird huh.

I've been trying to watch this free movie I found on Amazon Prime for the past few days, but keep falling asleep:

Restful Rain for relaxation, meditation and sleep 9 hours

I will try to post "no-spoiler" updates as this ongoing project continues.  I am determined to watch the whole thing, the director must put Kubrick to shame!

(I love Kubrick movies, but always fall asleep about halfway through...)

Are you OK? What's up with the complete sentences? Did you sober up for 2017 or something?

I DO care! Especially about that physically part..

"The Wind and the Lion" on TCM this afternoon. Not historically accurate by a long shot, especially with Sean Connery as "the bloody Rrraisuli, defender of the bleedin' Faith,"  but a fun movie and an enjoyable way to pass a cold day.

It also reminded me of this sort of a takeoff which the SCTV fans here might remember.

I saw that was on. As an aside when pondering the various Islamic/West issues over the course of history I was reminded that, for a time, the Protestants in The Netherlands infamously had a slogan, Liever Turks dan Paaps, translated, "Rather Turkish Than Papist" because though very brutal the Ottoman Muslims, at that time, allowed religious minorities (though heavily taxed and forbade certain things) but the Catholics, at the time, were killing any Protestant/Lutheran/Calvinists/etc. And there was war between Catholic and Protestant countries in Europe (though some odd alliances there where royal concerns overcame religious differences.) But also shows the severity of the situation (siding with a total apostate that allowed slavery etc etc versus the Pope!) There apparently were even envoys and letters to and from the Ottoman Empire and the Dutch royalty in 'rebellion.' Also you can still today go to churches in Holland etc and see where statues faces were smashed out (somewhat like the Muslims today) because 'graven images' and the Protestant vs Catholic view on them.

I'm ugly, but I'm not funny. One out of two?

Just watched Hacksaw Ridge.

The over arching theme of being a Conscientious Objector is over shadowed by the Christian themes of the movie.  Which is fine, nothing really against religion or Christians, it's just a bit much.

Overall a good film and worth watching.  It is a bit gruesome which I like, not so much for the gruesomeness but for the actuality of war and not some romanticized version of what combat is.

You will think "holy fuck, is this what war was like in WW2?"

Had some great lines it too.  I won't spoiler any of them though.

Lt.Uhura

Hostage to the Devil, the Malachi Martin documentary (currently on Netflix)

Although I listened to Martin on Art's show several times, I was never as impressed or convinced as Art was by what he had to say. The film interviews friends and former colleagues of Martin, who offer positive recollections about him. But I had to smile during the intro when one of his skeptics called him a "mythomaniac".

Yes, Art is there (sitting at his ham radio desk?) a few times, and also heard during various audio clips from his shows with Martin. I imagine Martin believed he was doing the right thing, and it seems he felt this was his calling.

As a non-religious person, the idea of adults engaging in exorcisms to chase away the Devil is of little interest to me. However, I think parents who subject their children to exorcisms is inexcusable, and abusive. Clearly children can not give consent, and I think it says more about the evil of the parents (and the exorcists) to subject children to such a frightening experience.

And BTW, the film was directed by someone with the unlikely name of, Martin Stalker.

been binging on Leverage..how did i not watch this show when it was on lol

I watched Kill or Be Killed, a fairly modern (2015) Western now playing on Netflix.  Kind of gruesome.  Lots of shooting and robbing, typical of Westerns, but this one has periodic underpinnings of something horrific going on in the background.  I think all the actors are somewhat unknown but despite this, everyone does a nice job of talking like people did back then, so I give them A for effort.  One of the desperados gets shot in the hand early on in the movie.  I liked his acting the best.  Very violent, bloody movie.  There is an outhouse rape scene that I wouldn't have included had I been the producer.  Oddly enough, there are also some comedic moments written into the plot.  Not to give away anything, I'll just say that the ending was 'interesting.'  Once was enough, though.  I won't be watching this one again.

Since I can't watch "The View" and get my "ho on-the-street" perepective today, I've decided to turn on "Kill or be Killed" Pretty good so far.

I see where some have compared "Kill or Be Killed" to "Bone Tomahawk" I liked "Bone Tomahawk"
