I maintain that the best thing Argento has ever done was when he cowrote the screenplay of Once Upon A Time In The West with Bernardo Bertolucci and Sergio Leone.

Any other suggestions for good thriller - scary - supernatural films of his?

Of his:
Deep Red, Opera,The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, Stendahl Syndrome are nice films for thriller (giallo) types, for the more supernatural Suspiria and Phenomena.

Sense8 on Netflix. This show has a a plot right?

In my opinion, it is fucking awesome  8) Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Wachowski's are geniuses. The cinematography is outstanding. The acting of the main characters is very well done.
The story is moving along at a nice pace so that it develops the main characters. I have not felt cheated by any "filler" episodes yet.
I love sci-fi in general so my opinion may be slightly skewed. But I am enjoying it immensely and already dreading the end of the first season
and having to wait for season 2.

I highly recommend this cerebral sci-fi thriller series with so much humanity woven into the core.
Riley is a goddess  :P

(I searched Sense8 on the forum and yours was the only result. I just finished watching the 4th episode.
On to the 5th...  ;D)

:D I love this series. I have laughed, cried, been angry, felt joyousness, heartache and all the while so absorbed by the characters and their interconnectedness.
I now know why this series was so long in production. It was shot beautifully all over the world. Such details.

I'm 9 episodes in now of the 12 that are in season one. I could have easily watched season one in a whole sitting. But I just don't want season one to end.
I heard the hype about Sense8 as well but I just didn't know how good it was going to be. My expectations have been reached and then some.
I know its just my opinion and things such as these are very subjective but the Sense8 is fantastic.

Look forward to hearing what you think of it once you start watching  ;D

Rewatched Hidaldo. Love that movie.

Saw Antman, I hate when movies break their own rules.

Mostly 'why didn't I watch this sooner?'

Which has a reasonable enough answer: when it was airing I saw a fraction of one episode and it scared me so much I wasn't allowed to watch anymore. By the time I was an adult it was off the air, and nine seasons is a pretty formidable mountain of episodes to watch. But, for some reason I can't quite put my finger on, I'm feeling really pumped this week and I felt like I could tackle it.

His early giallos are scary to a degree. I believe others have mentioned them but I'll add them anyway.  The Bird With The Crystal Plumage -1970, The Cat O' Nine Tails- 1971, and Deep Red-1975

As for pure horror films, I'd stick with Suspiria-1977 (arguably his best), Inferno-1980,  Phenomena-1985 and maybe my personal favorite - Opera-1987.  I haven't seen Tenebre from 1982 but I think it is supposed to be good.

Of his later films, Stendahl Syndrome-1996 and Phantom of The Opera-1998.

Stay away from Dracula 3D.  It is abysmal.  I see he has a new version of Macbeth out.  That may not be a pretty sight but I'm curious so I'll probably give it a go when it comes out.

If you are going to avoid rape, incest, pedophilia, violence or various addictions you might as well write off and stop watching almost all movies. (And avoid reading or attending any Greek or Shakespearean plays or ancient myths...or reading the Bible for that matter.) Now, granted, in the older ones the rape, incest, murders, and violence usually were for a moral lesson- not for getting parts in the production (casting couches, parties, etc,) for prurient interest of the viewer, or as the sole focus of the work.)As much as I say it is wrong(Polanksi, Klinski, Woody Allen, etc a lot of the current pedos and freaks there working now- who don't make good stuff anymore anyway) I can separate and say that they could still make a good film. But steal them and get them from torrents. Don't give them the money and any residuals.

Too late, I have already bought them. I have practically all of Polanski's decent films from Repulsion on and most of Woody's especially the early years.  Not that I would want any of these people, in particular Kinski, anywhere near my kids if I had any. I can separate the person from the filmmaker for the most part.

ATTABOY, LUTHER!!!

I watched The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (1966) on Saturday with my wife.  I had not watched it completely in over 35 years.  Don Knotts was the shit!!  He stole Ollie's hot girlfriend, Alva, and proved that he wasn't afraid of no ghost.  Seriously, Knotts was really one of the most gifted comedians in the mid-late 20th century.  I came into the film which I had almost forgotten completely and expected it to be slightly amusing but predictable.  It was far more than amusing and really not completely predictable.  Knotts' physical comedy is the best since Buster Keaton.  I cracked up whenever Luther's supporter said "Attaboy, Luther!" This movie was one of my brother's favorite films and he could mimic the guy perfectly.   LOL and then there was the spiritualist group that fainted whenever they touched Luther.  The weakest part of the film was the final conflict between Simmons and Luther. It just fell flat but I loved the wedding scene and the movie ended on a perfect note.  It's not art but it is great fun. Aw heck, I'm going to give it 4 out of 5 stars.

I also saw Gettysburg (1993) from a Blu-ray off the Limited Edition Civil War 150th Anniversary box set that also included Gods And Generals. I have some complaints but it was for the most part an excellent movie.  First, the complaints.  Martin Sheen as General Robert E. Lee.  Sorry, it didn't work.  It is not that he did a bad job because he didn't.  It was just bad casting.  You don't see Robert E. Lee when Sheen is playing him, you see Martin Sheen with a fake beard.  Which coincides with my second complaint.  The fake facial hair.  I mean really.  Jeff Daniels mustache looked ok but I wanted to tug on C. Thomas Howell's fake hair.  Tom Berenger's wasn't much better.

Another problem with the production was the lack of gore and horror.  I usually hate gore especially in slasher films but I really felt it was needed in this film to convey the absolute horror and brutality of war.  I understand why they didn't go that route but I feel it prevented the movie from becoming the definitive film on the Battle of Gettysburg.  Then there were the fat reinactors that were scattered throughout the film.  Civil War Soldiers didn't have problems with too much weight, they had problems with not having enough food.  I understand why the producers used reinactors because they knew what to do and already had their costumes but it still bothered me.

Now for the good points.  There was a good balance in viewpoints from the Southern perspective and the Northern perspective. Other than Sheen's performance, everybody else's was spot on.  Berenger and Daniels give bravura performances. However,  I think that I would have to single out Richard Jordan's performance as Brig. Gen. Lewis A. Armistead as the best performance in the film.  The man was dying from brain cancer as they were filming this production.  He gives his performance a necessary fatalism and resignation and ,damn, he made me cry.  I also must point out the location filming. Filming on the actual battlefield helped with the realism of the film.  It was critical for the success of this film.

The length of the film did not bother me at all.  It was never boring.  We had to watch this over several nights due to its length but that was fine.  Overall, it is an excellent film but I can't give it more than 4 stars out of 5.

21st Century Man, the overfed re-enactors have long made CW geeks squeamish. And the guy who played J.E.B. Stuart had the worst beard of the lot.

Whiplash. As good and as well-acted as the critics have said, and easy to connect with if you have been in a high-achieving environment where you are fully expected to transcend that.

Yes. Perhaps my favorite film last year.  Actually, one of my favorites in years. It blew me away and I was so happy JK Simmons was recognized for his work on this.

LOL.  I can't argue with that.  They were all pretty bad.

Chilling with the original Wallendar in Swedish. I think I may be developing a thing for Swedish detective stories in general, but  Wallendar's chill. He's got wrinkles, looks like an average guy, walks his dog,has an ok car, smokes, drinks and can't run fast. My favorite line of dialog:

Rookie cop (about Wallendar): "He's been drinking."
Prosecutor: "Who hasn't?"

I'd rather watch URANUS DESCENDING. Seriously... Last night, there was a failed attempt made at watching the full JUPITER ASCENDING movie. What a dreadful plight we had when we trudged through the ridiculously made boring snoozefest that is that movie. Even MEG from Family Guy couldn't save the stew of garbage we found ourselves immersed it.
There are times I even like bad movies.. awful movies. I mean, I even enjoyed ZOMBIE ASS TOILET OF THE DEAD (Netflix that one, it's a real movie) .. but this movie? This heap of horror and bad scripting, no character development, and CGI nonsense? Stay away ..
Sorry if I offended anyone who actually enjoyed the movie.

Jackstar

I just watched 12 Angry Men with my mother. I love the ending, with the guy sobbing into his hands, weeping, "not guilty... not guilty..."

I would prefer that all my trials end this way.

What if I told you there is a movie called "Rustlers Rhapsody" with this plot that is almost as funny as "Blazing Saddles"

Tom Beranger: is a singing cowboy-super good guy back when the bad guys in old westerns are starting to shoot back, who only shoots bad guys in the hands and rides a dancing horse while consuming many, many roots with psychotropic effects.

Sexy Mary Lou Henner: (Taxi) is a lady of the evening who only talks dirty

Andy Griffith: is a, supposedly, gay rancher who has very, very, sexy, Sela Ward as a daughter who is also messing around with the ranch boss, Blacki...

GW Bailey:(Rizzo form MASH, Provenzo in Major Crimes) The town drunk who wants to become a "sidekick" to Beranger and now wants to be a "root junkie"

Fernando Rey: from the old spaghetti westerns who is a railroad bad guy you can barely understand, who's men always wear those cool, long duster style coats

And another secret good guy, since only the good guys ever win in old "B" movie westerns...

It's a movie that almost demands you are in an altered state and want happy tears to fall out of your face.

"Rustler's Rhapsody" (1985) is an under-rated Western parody starring some hilarious, and even great actors. I would mention that some people might recall GW Bailey more easily from the "Police Academy" franchise. ps: Patrick Wayne (son of John Wayne) is in the movie.

"The Tenant" is likely my scariest movie.

Holy Ghosts

I find I'm too often disappointed by mainstream horror films. Sometimes the scariest things I've seen, though, are under 2 minutes. I put a couple of them in my Top 5 Scariest YouTube Videos list, if you'd like to take a gander.

  Trainwreck was awesome!  :o

Just kidding. Had to hear about it earlier today from somebody that I wished had attended the Layfayette, LA screening last week.
